Background: The systematic surveillance of injuries and illness in young athletes is important to reduce the loss of training and competition time and enable continuing sports participation. However, the risk and incidence of injury and illness in tropical country athletes competing in winter sports remains unclear. Objective: To identify the incidence, severity, and causes of injuries and illness in the Thailand National Youth Team during the 10-day First Winter Children of Asia Games. Materials and Methods: In the present observational prospective cohort study, the authors used the International Olympic Committee (IOC) injury and illness surveillance system for multisport events. The injuries and illnesses of 18 Thailand athletes were collected daily by the team physician over a 10-day competition period. Results: Eight injuries and nine illnesses were reported, equating to 44.4% of the athletes sustaining at least one injury and 50% at least one illness, an incidence rate of 2.6 injuries and 7.3 illnesses per 100 athletes, respectively. The risk of sustaining an injury was highest during cross country skiing while the most common type of injury was a sprain. The upper respiratory tract was the site most affected by illness with females reporting a greater illness rate. Conclusion: The presented data constitute the basis for future analyses of injury and illness associated risk factors in winter sports, which are essential to develop and implement effective preventative strategies in tropical winter sport athletes. Abstract. Previous studies describe a height of outdoor sports and the consequent need to train qualified instructors. Even so, the educational system of instructors of these activities is still being ordered and structured. This article aims to compare the regulations in the professional certifications of winter sports (alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, and snowboarding) and analyze the differences in regulations of the autonomous communities of Spain. The content of the state regulations and the current regulatory development of each autonomous regions regarding professional certifications in winter sport modalities were analyzed. In 2018, eight communities developed specific regulations regarding professional certifications in winter sport modalities, 18 years after the publication of the country regulation. In general, heterogeneity is observed in the regulations between the different communities and also in comparison with the country regulations in aspects as important as professional capacities, exercise of the professional activity, subjects, time distribution, total teaching hours, and proportion of theoretical and practical hours. A homogenization of the regulations of professional certifications in winter sports is necessary among autonomous communities, with the aim of ensuring a convergent line for the professional practice of these modalities throughout the country territory.

BACKGROUND Being active in sports has many positive health effects. The direct effects of engaging in regular physical activity are particularly apparent in the prevention of several chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, hypertension, obesity, depression, and osteoporosis. Besides the beneficial health effects of being active, sports participation is unfortunately also associated with a risk of injuries. In the case of many sports injuries (eg, winter sports) preventive measures are not compulsory, which means that a behavioral change in sports participants is necessary to increase the use of effective measures, and subsequently prevent or reduce injuries in sports. OBJECTIVE The evidence-based Wintersportklaar online intervention has been developed to stimulate injury preventive behavior among skiers and snowboarders. In this article, the design of the effectiveness study will be described. METHODS A randomized controlled trial with a follow-up period of four months during the winter sport season will be conducted. The participants consist of inexperienced skiers and snowboarders. At baseline, skiers and snowboarders in the intervention and control groups are asked to report the injury preventive measures they usually take during their preparation for their winter sport holiday. One and three months after baseline, skiers and snowboarders are asked to report retrospectively in detail what measures they took regarding injury prevention during their current winter sport preparation and winter sport holiday. Descriptive analyses (mean, standard deviation, frequency, range) are conducted for the different baseline variables in both study groups. To evaluate the success of the randomization, baseline values are analyzed for differences between the intervention and control groups (chi square, independent T tests and/or Mann-Whitney test). Chi square tests and/or logistic regression analyses are used to analyze behavioral change according to the intention to treat principle (as initially assigned). RESULTS The project was funded in 2016 and enrolment was completed in 2017. Data analysis is currently under way and the first results are expected to be submitted for publication in 2018. CONCLUSIONS To combat the negative side effects of sports participation, the use of injury preventive measures is desirable. As the use of injury prevention is usually not compulsory in skiing and snowboarding, a behavioral change is necessary to increase the use of effective injury preventive measures in winter sports. Physical exercise is generally recommended. Specific populations have particular needs, but physical exercise is also highly recommended for people with motor, sensory or cognitive disabilities. There are currently adaptive sports, including winter sports. Participation in adaptive sports improves cardiovascular capacity, contributes to integration in the community and decreases pain intensity, leading to improved quality of life. Alpine skiing, Nordic skiing and ice hockey are the most popular paralympic winter sports. The medical teams working with Paralympic winter sports athletes face several challenges such as the need to tailor the adaptative material to the athlete, prevent acute traumatic injuries and treat chronic diseases.

Regular exercise provides many health benefits. Participation in sport is one enjoyable way of achieving this desirable objective and should be encouraged. Sports participation is also, unfortunately, associated with an increased risk of injury. The growing popularity of winter sports means that patients are more likely to present in primary care with injuries following a winter break. This article aims to cover the most common winter sports injuries of the upper limb seen in the community and considers their assessment, investigation and management.

Abstract Objective Report results from PERSIST, a real-life, observational, prospective cohort study of CT-P13, an infliximab (IFX) biosimilar, for treatment of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), ankylosing spondylitis (AS) or psoriatic arthritis (PsA) who were biologic-naïve or switched from IFX reference product (IFX-RP; Remicade®). Methods Adult patients were recruited during usual care at 38 sites in Europe and Canada, and enrolled by their physicians after meeting eligibility according to the country-approved label for CT-P13. Primary outcomes were to determine drug utilization, treatment persistence and assess safety. Patients were followed for up to 2 years. Data were analysed and reported descriptively. Results Of 351 patients enrolled, 334 were included in the analysis (RA, 40.4%; AS, 34.7%; PsA, 24.9%). The safety analysis set comprised all 328 patients treated with CT-P13. The majority (58.2%) of patients received CT-P13 monotherapy, most (72.6%) by dosing every 6 or 8 weeks. Mean treatment persistence was 449.2 days; 62.3% of patients completed 2-years treatment. In all, 214 treatment-emergent adverse events (TEAEs) were reported in 38.4% of patients. Most TEAEs were of mild or moderate intensity; 13 were severe. Most commonly reported TEAEs were drug ineffective (9.5%) and infusion-related reactions (5.2%). Most frequently reported infection-related TEAEs were upper respiratory tract infections (3.0%), nasopharyngitis (2.1%) and bronchitis (1.5%). No patients experienced tuberculosis. Conclusion : Drug utilization and treatment persistence with CT-P13 were consistent with historical reports of IFX-RP in this patient population. Safety findings did not identify new concerns for CT-P13 in the treatment of patients with RA, AS or PsA.
