Tourism Development and Sustainability in the Protected Area APA Delta do Parnaíba (PI, Brazil) ABSTRACT Tourism in Protected areas (PAs) has grown substantially in the last decade and it has a positive character, when planned and managed on a sustainable basis; on the other hand, impacts can be enhanced in the absence of actions to monitor and organize the activity. In this context, the need to understand how tourism develops in PAs to assess the current situation of tourist visitation, and to propose preventive and corrective measures to adjust the course of local tourist development emerges. In this way, this article analyzed the tourist development in the Sustainable Use PA APA do Delta do Parnaíba (Piauí state, Brazil)), based on the environmental and tourist aspects of the Internal and External Environments. As a methodology, structured interviews with the visitors, local manager of the PA, tourism service providers and the local community were carried out, and subsequently this data was analyzed based on the SWOT Analysis. As a result, the results revealed that the current picture of tourism development in the above-mentioned PA is characterized by the increasing number of visitors and the lack of actions to monitor and control the impacts of tourism. In view of this, it is suggested to adopt a program to manage the impacts of visitation in PA, by the managing body, training of tourism service providers to enhance tourism on a sustainable basis, and raise awareness among local communities about the problems affecting tourism. tourism in the locality. stainability; SWOT Analysis.

The main aim of this chapter is to propose and test a model to reflect on the factors that, associated with the tourist development of a destination, are perceived by the local community to be influential at the personal and collective level, as well as to what extent they impact people's satisfaction with the community they belong to. An enclave with a fishing tradition in the province of Huelva (Spain) was selected for primary data collection. PLS technique was used for hypotheses testing. It is concluded the contingent nature of the categorisation of the impacts with an influence on the local community's perception of tourism development, in addition to the inexistence of a direct relationship between the perception of the impacts on a personal level and residents' satisfaction with their community, although an indirect relationship exists through the perception of the effects on the town as a whole.

AbstractIn this paper it will be shown how to build a local brand through the model of local sustainability. Territorial assets as a local activity and informal rules for a joint work of a community are taken as starting points in brand creation. The operational hypothesis is to present the building of a local community brand though the created model which consists of four components of local community sustainability: spatial – ecological sustainability, economic - social sustainability, humanistic – cultural sustainability and political – institutionalized sustainability (in the text: SEESHCPI model). The SEESHCPI model is also used in building and creation of the brand of the municipality of SvetiKrižZačretje. Even though the brand has to be the starting point for a sustainable tourist development of the place this is not its main purpose.

Night tourism development comes up as an innovative strategy for tourism development in this current intense competition. There are four main elements in night tourism, namely economic, social, environmental, and night atmosphere. Berastagi is the most popular tourist destination in Karo Regency, Sumatera Utara, Indonesia, which already have night tourism destination but unfortunately undeveloped yet. Night tourism development in Berastagi must be with the local wisdom approach to maximize its benefit. Karonese as the majority ethnic of the local community in this area potential to be developed on its night tourism. This paper only analyzes the environmental and night atmosphere aspects in Berastagi’s night tourism, which based on local wisdom. Qualitative primary data from field observation and depth interview results have been analyzed by using the descriptive method. The study shows that involving local wisdom in developing the environment and night atmosphere can give the typical identity for the night tourism in Berastagi.Night Tourism

The forest-forming giant kelp Macrocystis pyrifera and the communities it supports have been decreasing across their native ranges in many parts of the world. The sudden removal of giant kelp canopies by storms increases space and light for the colonization by understory macroalgae, such as Desmarestia herbacea, which can inhibit M. pyrifera recovery and alter local community composition. Understanding the mechanisms by which algae such as D. herbacea interact with M. pyrifera can provide insight into patterns of kelp forest recovery following these disturbances and can aid in predicting future community structure. This study experimentally tested the independent and combined effects of two likely competitive mechanisms by which D. herbacea might inhibit recovery of M. pyrifera in the Point Loma kelp forest in San Diego, California (USA). Specifically, we conducted field experiments to study the individual and combined effects of shade and scour by D. herbacea on the survival of M. pyrifera microscopic life stages, and the recruitment, survival, and growth of its young sporophytes. Our results show that scour had the strongest negative effect on the survival of M. pyrifera microscopic life stages and recruitment, but shade and scour both adversely affected survival and growth of these sporophytes as they grew larger. Canopy-removing storms are increasing in frequency and intensity, and this change could facilitate the rise of understory species, like D. herbacea, which might alter community succession and recovery of kelp forests.
