The cognitive Science is the leading technology which works on the principle of Neuroscience. Human Computer Interface is a challenging approach in neurosciences, which is the leading method to handle the brain activities to control external communications with the electronic devices for physically challenged human beings. The various HCI applications are developed with this advance technology. This helps in various patients which are physically challenged or facing the lock in syndrome, a condition where limbs are not functioning to full extent. Therefore, this paper is the review paper to the various EEG signal classification techniques using different taxonomy with techniques like linear, nonlinear, stableubstable, static-discriminant to design various HCI applications.

The brain–computer interface (BCI) is a mechanism for extracting information from the brain, with this information used for various applications. This study proposes a method to control an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) flying through a BCI system using the steady-state visual evoked potential (SSVEP) approach. The UAV’s screen emits three frequencies for visual stimulation: 15, 23, and 31 Hz for the UAV’s left-turn, forward-flight, and right-turn functions. Due to the requirement of immediate response to the UAV flight, this paper proposes a method to improve the accuracy rate and reduce the time required to correct instruction errors in the resolution of brainwave signals received by UAVs. This study tested ten subjects and verified that the proposed method has a 10% improvement inaccuracy. While the traditional method can take 8 s to correct an error, the proposed method requires only 1 s, making it more suitable for practical applications in UAVs. Furthermore, such a BCI application for UAV systems can achieve the same experience of using the remote control for physically challenged patients.


A Brain-Computer Interface (BCI)is labeledas Mind-Machine Interface (MMI) or a Brain-Machine Interface (BMI). It affords a non-muscular channel of messagein between the computer and a human brain. Using the enhancements in interface equipment to electronics,and the necessity to helpindividuals suffering from disabilities, a new area in this study has begun by acceptingtasks of brain. The Electro-Encephalogram (EEG) is an electrical activity created by brain structures and verified from the scalp using electrodes. The EEG signal is used in actualspell to accomplishperipheral devices using a broad BCI system. The post-processed output signals are converted to suitable instructions to regulate output devices. The main seek is to aidparalyzed and physically immobilizedpersons to govern the home appliances making use of Electro-Encephalogram (EEG) signals, such that they grow to beautonomous. According to the brain responsiveness the devices can be designated then usingrelays, the switching of the home-basedmachinescan be completedconsequently.


In this paper the home automation systems to support elderly and physically challenged people in providing them secure, safe and controlled environment is reviewed. Various technologies like Brain Controlled Interface (BCI) technology, Human Computer Interface system, GSM SMS services, Bluetooth, PIC Microcontroller with ZigBee modulation, Voice controlled home automation, Novel Electroculogram (EOG), Assistive Visible Light Communication (VLC) etc. are discussed. By using smart home technology, the life of such people becomes easier and comfortable. The proposed paper is dedicated to old age and physically impaired people.

Recent publications in the Electroencephalogram (EEG)-based brain–computer interface field suggest that this technology could be ready to go outside the research labs and enter the market as a new consumer product. This assumption is supported by the recent advantages obtained in terms of front-end graphical user interfaces, back-end classification algorithms, and technology improvement in terms of wearable devices and dry EEG sensors. This editorial paper aims at mentioning these aspects, starting from the review paper “Brain–Computer Interface Spellers: A Review” (Rezeika et al., 2018), published within the Brain Sciences journal, and citing other relevant review papers that discussed these points.

Brain Computer Interface consists of hardware and software that convert brain signals into action. It changes the nerves, muscles, and movements they produce with electro-physiological signs. The BCI cannot read the brain and decipher the thought in general. The BCI can only identify and classify specific patterns of activity in ongoing brain signals associated with specific tasks or events. EEG is the most commonly used non-invasive BCI method as it can be obtained easily compared to other methods. In this study; It will be given how EEG signals are obtained from the scalp, with which waves these frequencies are named and in which brain states these waves occur. 10-20 electrode placement plan for EEG to be placed on the scalp will be shown.

The education system in Indonesia emphasize on academic intelligence, whichincludes only two or three aspects, more than on the other aspects of intelligence. For thatreason, many children who are not good at academic intelligence, but have good potentials inother aspects of intelligence, do not develop optimally. They are often considered and labeledas "stupid children" by the existing system. This phenomenon is on the contrary to the theoryof multiple intelligences proposed by Howard Gardner, who argues that intelligence is theability to solve various problems in life and produce products or services that are useful invarious aspects of life.Human intelligence is a combination of various general and specific abilities. Thistheory is different from the concept of IQ (intelligence quotient) that involves only languageskills, mathematical, and spatial logics. According to Gardner, there are nine aspects ofintelligence and its potential indicators to be developed by each child born without a braindefect. What Gardner suggested can be considered as a starting point to a perspective thatevery child has a unique individual intelligence. Parents have to treat and educate theirchildren proportionally and equitably. This treatment will lead to a pattern of education that isfriendly to the brain and to the plurality of children’s potential.More than the above points, the notion that multiple intelligences do not just comefrom the brain needs to be followed. Humans actually have different immaterial (spiritual)aspects that do not refer to brain functions. The belief in spiritual aspects and its potentialsmeans that human beings have various capacities and they differ from physical capacities.This is what needs to be addressed from the perspective of education today. The philosophyand perspective on education of the educators, education stakeholders, and especially parents,are the first major issue to be addressed. With this step, every educational activity andcommunication within the family is expected to develop every aspect of children'sintelligence, especially the spiritual intelligence.
