In this study, the application of a systematic plant layout planning (SLP) to assist the optimum design of process areas and locations is proposed. The number of machines and space requirement in pulley factory is determined. The operation process chart, flow of material and activity relationship chart have been investigated. The relationships between machines, operation sections and material flow are used to determine the suitable position of each activity. The SLP method has been employed to design the two alternative plant layouts and compare the performances between new layout and present layout in term of material flow. The new plant layout is modified by moving a disassembly and surface finish that significantly decrease the distance of material flow, so it is effective increasing production.

Purpose Due to the economic benefits and environmental awareness, most of the battery manufacturing industries in India are interested to redesign their existing supply chain network or to incorporate the effective closed loop supply chain network (CLSCN). The purpose of this paper is to develop CLSCN model with eco-friendly distribution network and also enhance recycling to utilize recycled lead for new battery production. The existing CLSCN model of a battery manufacturing industry considered for case study is customized for attaining economic benefit and environmental safety. Hence, single objective, multi-echelon, multi-period and multi-product CLSCN model with centralized depots (CD) is developed in this work to maximize the profit and reduce the emission of CO2 in transportation. Design/methodology/approach The proposed CD has the facility to store new batteries (NB), scrap batteries (SB) and lead ingot. The objective of the proposed research work is to identify potential location of CD using K-means clustering algorithm, to allocate facilities with CD using multi-facility allocation (MFA) algorithm and to minimize overall travel distance by allowing bidirectional flow of materials and products between facilities. The proposed eco-friendly CLSCN-CD model is solved using GAMS 23.5 for optimal solutions. Findings The performance of the proposed model is validated by comparing with existing model. The evaluation reveals that the proposed model is better than the existing model. The sensitivity analysis is demonstrated with different rate of return of SB, different proportion of recycled lead and different type of vehicles, which will help the management to take appropriate decision in the context of cost savings. Originality/value This research work has proposed single objective, multi echelon, multi period and multi product CLSCN-CD model in the battery manufacturing industry to maximize the profit and reduce the CO2 emission in transportation, by enhancing the bidirectional flow of materials/products between facilities of entire model.

To enlarge production to meet the market demand, its nessasery to improve the present facility layout for MTO (Make-To-Order) manufacturing enterprises. This paper tries to design a optimization method based on genetic algorithm for the facility layout of MTO enterprises. Firstly, SLP (systematic layout planning) was applied to analyze the material and non-material flow interrelation of the workshop. Secondly, a relatively optimum layout was determined after using fuzzy hierarchy estimation to evaluate the schemes. Then the scheme was optimized with genetic algorithm. The result shows that the optimized logistics transport load is obviously less than before. This design method based on genetic algorithm (GA) is proved feasible and effective in the optimization of facility layout.

The images captured through a camera usually belong to over or under exposed conditions. The reason may be inappropriate lighting conditions or camera resolution. Hence, it is of utmost importance to have a few enhancement techniques that could make these artefacts look better. Hence, the primary objective pertaining to the adjustment and enhancement techniques is to enhance the characteristics of an image. The initial numeric values related to an image get distorted when an image is enhanced. Therefore, enhancement techniques should be designed in such a way that the image quality isn’t compromised. This research work is focused on proposed a network design for deep convolution neural networks for application of super resolution techniques. To improve the complexity of existing techniques this work is intended towards network designs, different filter size and CNN architecture. The CNN model is most effective model for detection and segmentation in image. This model will improve the efficiency of medical image reconstruction from LR to HR. The proposed model showed its efficiency not only PET medical images but also on retinal database and achieved advance results as compared to existing works.

The study examined the impact of fiscal fundamental on unemployment rate in Nigeria from 1980 to 2020 focusing on COVID-19 imperatives. The research work embraces OLS estimating techniques to estimate the relationship between the variables. The result of the analysis revealed that government expenditure had positive and significant effect on the rate of unemployment. Also government revenue had a positive but insignificant impact on unemployment during. The implication of these findings for COVID-19 is that the narrative which is obtained from the analysis needs to be changed. Government revenue should be made to have significant impact on unemployment. The pandemic has led to a lot of job lost and the unemployment rate in Nigeria has risen by about 55% peaking at 36% youth unemployment rate as at last quarter of 2020. The study therefore, recommends that government should refocus expenditure and revenue in the country in such a way it will target development of infrastructural facilities so as to increase productivity and in turn facilitate employment generation.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate, validity and reliability analysis on existing Lean manufacturing (LM) frameworks when applied to Indian organizations. LM is one of the best manufacturing strategies that are used by manufacturing plant managers to improve manufacturing capabilities. Design/methodology/approach – In the present research work, a questionnaire-based survey was used to examine 35 LM frameworks. The study targeted respondents ranging from top- and middle-level management personnel in Indian manufacturing industry. The sample includes organizations in a variety of industries ranging from automobile, electronics, engineering, process and textile industries products. The survey tool was prepared with team of 12 members i.e. six academicians and six professionals from manufacturing industry environment. The study received 186 responses from various sectors of manufacturing industry, 180 surveys were usable resulting in a response rate of 23.90 per cent. Factor analysis was conducted to check unidimentionality of the framework. Cronbach’s alpha is calculated to find reliability of each framework’s. Lastly, frequency analysis was used to recognize familiar constructs of LM on the chosen framework. Findings – This study has identified that most of the LM frameworks revealed a high level of reliability. When the study has examined further advance about unidimensionality with respect to the construct, i.e. the LM it measures, it confirmed 11 frameworks were revealing unidimensionality. The frequency analysis was evident that a greater part of the constructs has a high mean score and mode. Finally, the research concludes that there is requirement for a novel framework to Indian manufacturing industry to stay in competition with global manufacturing industries. Research limitations/implications – Cross-sectional data from manufacturing industries and India (only one country) is used with sample size restricted to 180 only, and it would be interesting to test these frameworks for more than one industry sector and country. Continuous monitoring of productivity and assessment of its variations are crucial processes that significantly contribute to success of earthmoving projects. Numerous factors may lead to productivity variations. However, these factors are subjectively identified using manual knowledge-based expert judgment. Such manual recognition process is not only subject to errors but also time-consuming. There is a lack of research work that focuses on near real-time assessment of productivity variation and its effect on cost, schedule and effective utilization of resources in earthmoving projects. This paper presents a customized multi-source automated data acquisition model that acquires data from a variety of wireless sensing technologies. The acquired multi-sensor data are transmitted to a central MySQL database. Then a newly developed data fusion algorithm is applied for truck state recognition, and hence the duration of each earthmoving state. Multi-sensor data fusion facilitates measurement of actual productivity, and consequently the assessment of productivity ratios that support continuous monitoring of productivity variation in earthmoving operations. The developed tracking and monitoring model generates an early warning that supports proactive decisions to avoid schedule delays, cost overruns, and inefficient depletion of resources. A case study is used to reveal the applicability of the proposed model in monitoring and assessing actual productivity and its deviations from planned productivity. Finally, results are discussed and conclusions are drawn highlighting the features of the proposed model.

AA well-known challenge with long running time queries in database environments is how much time a query will take to execute. This prediction is relevant for several reasons. For instance, by knowing that a query will take longer to execute than desired, one resource reservation mechanism can be performed, which means reserving more resources in order to execute this query in a shorter time in a future request. In this research work, it is presented a proposal in which the use of an advance reservation mechanism in a cloud database environment, considering machine learning techniques, provides resource recommendation. The proposed model is presented, in addition to some experiments that evaluate benefits and the efficiency of this enhanced proposal.
