Internationalizing higher education has long been on the agenda of most countries. The purpose of internationalization is to improve the quality and relevance of international standards. Given today’s interrelated and interdependent world, internationalization has proven to be a useful tool for higher educational institutions to benchmarking and improve innovative solutions for continuous challenges. Thus, higher education institutions need to strengthen their quality through its primary functions to reach a certain level of internationalization. This paper highlighted the most common practices of internationalization of higher education at the national and sector, institutional and faculty, and individual levels. With a view in identifying approaches and best practices in Malaysia, it is critically reviewed the relevant approaches to internationalization that are covered in the scholarly literature review from the past few decades. The review has revealed the chronology of international education – internationalization from the past until this century and its meaning that carries the concept of internationalization of higher education. The review also identified the approaches to internationalization which are the activity and process approach where has been applied in the internationalization of higher education stratification level. Therefore, this paper will catalyse the change in the understanding of the world that strongly focuses on internationalizing the higher institutions

Purpose The science of Foresight differs from the commonplace notion of what a science is because it is a metadiscipline – a logical type of science higher than the logical type of disciplinary sciences. It is practical, uses transdisciplinary processes that combine scientific disciplines and often examines counterfactuals in a scientific manner. This study aims to demonstrate that Foresight is a science, by presenting a number of best practices and potential innovations in higher education that could facilitate obtaining skills for Foresight science. Design/methodology/approach The methods of scientific education that have served us well in the past are inadequate for metadisciplinary sciences such as Foresight. The paper discusses what metadisciplinarity is, using a variety of examples, and distinguishes it from disciplines and ways of crossing disciplinary boundaries. Understanding the essential characteristics of Foresight as a metadisciplinary science leads to identifying current best practices and possible educational innovations in undergraduate education that will facilitate obtaining Foresight skills. Throughout the paper, examples are drawn from the education and professional experience of the author in the USA and Europe. Findings This paper demonstrates that Foresight is a science and presents a number of best practices and potential innovations in higher education that could facilitate obtaining skills for Foresight science. It identifies barriers to those innovations and approaches to overcome them. Originality/value This viewpoint paper clarifies the meaning of the terms interdisciplinarity, transdisciplinarity and metadisciplinarity to identify the essential characteristics of Foresight as a science. Then, it identifies and advocates needed changes in North American higher education to provide earlier and more efficient opportunities for Foresight researchers and users to obtain the skills they need.

Internationalization of higher education has become an irreversible trend of modern world, where international course is the key link. For Chinese universities, during the transition from traditional ‘Foreign students class’ (for foreign students only) to ‘International class’, in which Chinese students and foreign students will be trained under one roof, they have to face great challenges of teaching transition, including teaching contents, methods, examinations transformations. In this paper, taking materials physics courses for example, we put forward some suggestions on teaching transformation of international education from ‘Foreign students class’ to ‘International class’, basing on the experience of one-year visiting in University of Victoria (UVic), Canada and the differences of teaching between our Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU) and UVic.

The article deals with the theoretical analysis of the problem of internationalization of higher education in the context of introducing reforms of the Bologna process in the European region and, in particular, in Ukraine; the historical periods of formation of the internationalization of higher education from the moment of the first European universities emerged; it was determined that universities at their institutional level are important participants in internationalization and, in accordance with local specifics, their understanding of the objectives of ensuring the quality of education and development priorities must develop their own strategies for internationalization; on the example of the Grinchenko University it is substantiated that the development of the institutional strategy of internationalization is one of the key priorities of the development of university education in Ukraine. Modern information and communication technologies, the rapid development of distance learning, the growing popularity of Internet universities form a single world educational market in which higher education institutions from different countries of the world, without restricting themselves national borders, offer their services in conditions of strict international competition. The processes of Ukraine’s integration into the world educational space, in particular its accession to the Bologna Process, determine the creation of a competitive sphere of Ukrainian higher education. The urgency of the problem of internationalization, which reflects the idea of openness of education and science in the world and has significant modernizing potential, lays the foundation for its scientific reflection on the integration into the national context of the best international standards of higher education quality. These imperatives should serve as a guideline for the institutional strategy of internationalization as a key priority for the development of university education in Ukraine in order to increase the competitiveness of Ukrainian higher education institutions and their integration into the European educational space.

Bahrain Polytechnic is a Higher Education technical institution established in 2008 (by Royal Decree No. 65 for the year 2008). Its main mission is to supply the Bahraini economy with a skilled Bahraini labour force aiming to contribute to economic growth and diversification. The Polytechnic ensures that its values of excellence, learning and innovation are achieved by designing curricula that meet international standards as well as national and individual needs through continuous consultations with the industries and international education institutions. The development of computer and technological literacy is a significant predictor for success in the workplace and is also one of the key skills that the polytechnic provides through its programmes to students and faculty. This paper explores how computer literacy and skills are acquired by educators and students through International Computer Driving License (ICDL) tools employed at Bahrain Polytechnic. The study also considers the challenges that hinder learners from completing the requirements of ICDL.  If adequate numbers of faculty and students have already learned basic computer skills, then the question facing the polytechnic is if computer literacy should continue to be taught at all levels. To answer this question, ICDL tests were administered to ascertain the computer literacy level of existing faculty and students. The results of the tests will determine which ICDL tests students and faculty should be placed on in order to address their computer literacy needs.

University teachers in Russia have a period of increasing pedagogical and paper load. In this situation it is important to offer an environment,  preserving and developing their research skills, providing a possibility of  discussing their results in an audience of expert and concerned colleagues. A  thematic seminar as a form of such environment in many respects has  advantages over conferences, with their strict rules of reports and  discussions. The seminar on the history of higher school in St. Petersburg for  15 years has been an informal platform for reports and discussions on the history of higher education not only in St. Petersburg, but also in the  territories of the former Russian Empire and the Soviet Union. Reports,  presented at the interdisciplinary seminar, deal with the educational policy,  the history of educational institutions, the methodology of studying the  history of higher education, the study of archival collections of educational  institutions, etc. Over the past five year 18 sessions have been held, 4 of  them – in the form of problematic round tables; overall 30 reports were  presented.

Distance education has become an integral part of the educational system around the world. Official statistics on distance education, confirm a steady increase in the number of participants in distance learning and courses. The range of courses offered by more than 200 distance learning institutions, including about 1500 courses, of which about 75% – vocational and about 25% – general education. For the most part, this method of training is offered mainly by private institutes.The success of distance learning can be explained against the backdrop of changing conditions in economics, technology, and society. By the era of industrial society, the educational ideal of modern society was oriented to the classical educational systems for that time, which originated in antiquity. In many countries, traditional social norms have changed over the past 20 years.One authoritative researcher in the field of distance education noted that technology as a service delivery system has played an important role in the development of distance education and research. Over the past two decades, there has been an increase in the number of educational institutions that offer a service such as distance learning. There has also been an increase in the number of students receiving distance education not only in our country, but also in educational institutions around the world.Despite the fact that there have been extensive studies of open distance learning, there is no consensus on the indisputable benefit or inadmissibility of distance learning in higher education. Identification and study of problematic issues in the field of distance education implementation remains very relevant today.In this article we want to consider some problematic issues of distance learning in higher education, which is considered today the most favorable for the study and implementation of the model of exclusively online learning.

Internationalization is a rapidly growing trend among the higher education system around the world. Academic and research institutions demonstrate a growing interest in the processes of internationalization of higher education, at the international, regional, national, and institutional levels. Internationalization and global engagement are becoming key trends in the development of national systems of education in Armenia and abroad. Numerous researchers have highlighted the problematics of internationalization of higher education associated with the cultural impact of university education, a synergy of humanitarian and natural sciences, intercultural communication, digital and blended learning, international credit and degree mobility, the introduction of international standards for measuring the quality of education defined by the Bologna Declaration. Although internationalization has become established in education at the international level, it should be realized that at the moment there is no single policy or strategy for the internationalization of the higher education system in Armenia, both at the regional and national levels. The lack of uniform strategy is in some way offset at the institutional level: the increasing number of Armenian higher education institutions have integrated internationalization, to varying degrees, in their mission and vision. It can be seen in the activities of the leading universities in Armenia. The global knowledge economy requires all universities to be the competitors for students, faculties, strategic partnerships, and research funding, as well as to prepare their graduates to be global professionals, scholars, highly demanded and competitive. Indicating the mechanism of the implementation of an international component into the existing curricula, programs, research, teaching, and learning processes may contribute to the understanding of the process of internationalization of higher education. Thus, more research is needed on the experience of Armenia and other countries in implementing the provisions of the Bologna process. The purpose of this article is to examine the theoretical and practical aspects of the internationalization process, identifying some challenges and obstacles for the Armenian higher education system and presenting possible ways of overcoming them.

There is a debate as to whether internationalization should be a target or a means to achieve goals with broader perspectives. Digitalization, on the other hand, is a de facto trend that permeates all communicative, economic and social areas. For this purpose, the study aimed to examine literature on the field and the findings of the researchers on the issue were included. The research also discussed the internationalization and digitalization efforts carried out in the world and in Turkey. An internationalization model proposal for the Turkish higher education system is presented in outline, taking the best practices around the world into account. Model involves a digitalization-oriented education approach that aims to increase the opportunities for students to get support from their families and to minimize their socio-economic difficulties. The contributions of a massification provided by digitalization to international education have been revealed in this study. In 1969, the discipline of Ethnic Studies emerged and was implemented at a handful of colleges throughout the country, most notably at San Francisco State College where the first School of Ethnic Studies was established that year. The idea of devoting space within traditional educational institutions to the study of a particular race or ethnicity has existed since at least the 1920s when Carter G. Woodson proposed Negro History Week and encouraged the study of African American history. While Black Studies is thus the oldest of such fields within American education history, its establishment within higher education is tied to the establishment of the larger discipline of Ethnic Studies. Ethnic Studies encompasses the critical study of racial and ethnic histories and cultures and it incorporates a wide variety of methodologies. The course of the discipline throughout the past forty years has resulted in a variety of approaches to this study, thus generalizing about the field as it exists today is complicated. One thing that may be said about Ethnic Studies in its current iteration, however, is that it bears little resemblance to the proposals that ushered it into existence.
