Introduction and breeding studies with ornamental plants have been carried out in the Nikitsky Botanical Gardens for about 200 years. During this time, 28 flower crops were studied. Currently, 8 flower collections are examined: garden roses, lilac, clematis, tulip, hybrid iris, hybrid daylily, garden canna, garden chrysanthemum. On the example of these flower cultures the biological features promoting success of cultivation of flower plants under the conditions of SCC are revealed and the main features of their agrotechnology under these conditions are given.

The article presents the results of a long-term research on the introduction study and evaluation of cultivars of tea-hybrid roses introduced and selected by the Nikitsky Botanical Gardens to determine the possibilities of their use in floriculture of the Southern Coast of the Crimea. The research was conducted in the period from 1955 to 2014. The material for the study was 679 cultivars of garden roses from the tea-hybrid garden group of the collection of the Nikitsky Botanical Gardens. As a result of a comprehensive study, 400 cultivars are recommended for use in the floriculture of the Crimea. The main options for this use becomes the growing of tea-hybrid roses in the open ground for gardening purposes in bush and tree-shaped forms, as well as the growing cultivars for cutting in both open and protected ground. The biological features of the cultivars, which determine the possibility of different types of the use and the cultivars, that have these features were identified: 400 cultivars were recommended for use in landscaping in bush form, 45 cultivars - also in tree-shaped form, 226 cultivars are promising for cutting in the open ground and 107 cultivars - for forcing and cutting in greenhouses. The main methods of propagation of cultivars of tea-hybrid roses under the conditions of the Southern Coast of the Crimea are budding and rooting of green and hardwood cuttings. The optimal timing for propagation by each of these methods is indicated. The best rootstocks for budding were identified, depending on the type of their use in floriculture.

The results of the ascorbic acid content in the fruits and leaves of 10 persimmon cultivars from the Nikitsky Botanical Gardens’ collection are presented. It has been established that the concentration of ascorbic acid in technical persimmon fruits is 19,8-56,3 mg / 100 g, and in mature fruits it is 70-85% lower (5,08-8,96 mg / 100 g). Persimmon leaves contain 5-20 times more ascorbic acid than in fruits. The results showed the ability to use persimmon leaves as an additional source of vitamin C. The maximum content of ascorbic acid is allocated to the fruits of the cultivars Virginskaya Krupnoplodnaya, Delishes, Sidles and leaves of the cultivars Sidles and Zolotistaya.

The article describes approaches to the study of fruiting cultivars Iris x hybrida hort. of the collection of the Nikitsky Botanical Gardens National Scientific Center of the garden group of high species, on the example of the cultivar 'Sky Hooks', and presents the primary processing of experimental data. The ratio of the average values of potential and actual seed productivity depends on: the number of generative shoots on the plant; the number of "levels" or branches on the generative shoot; the number of flowers and the number of fruits on the generative shoot; the number of fruits at a certain "level" of their location. Actual seed production of cultivars 'Sky Hooks' two times less potential, regardless of the number of generative shoots per plant, "level" location of the fetus, the number of "levels" on generative shoots, number of flowers and fruits on one generative shoots. The highest average values of potential and actual seed productivity correspond to the 3rd and 4th "levels".

The paper presents the results of an introduction study of four species of the genus Echinacea Moench from the collection of aromatic and medical plants of the Nikitsky Botanical Garden: E. angustifolia DС. , E. pallida (Nutt.) Nutt. , E. tennesseensis (Breadle) Small and E. purpurea (L.) Moench. Morphological and biological features of these species were identified in order to determine the prospects of their cultivation in the conditions of the Southern Coast of the Crimea. A positive interspecific dependence of the number of inflorescences (baskets) on a plant with the length of the growing season (r=0.92) was established. An intraspecific assessment of the morphometry of inflorescences, such as their diameter, the length of the lingual flowers and the height of the flower bed, showed that E. purpurea has a tendency to negatively correlate these indicators with their number on the plant. Among the studied species of the genus Echinacea, according to the complex of thirteen morpho-biological and economically valuable traits, two species differ in adaptive advantage - these are E. purpurea and E. tennesseensis , and the best samples are No. 15309 and No. 6106 with an aboveground mass yield, respectively, 1.20±0.21 kg/plant and 0.92±0.19 kg/plant. E. pallida is characterized by cumulative signs of drought resistance, it is a short growing season equal to 124±4.1 days and a narrow-lanceolate leaf blade shape (index - 9.6), which allows this species to form a significant yield of aboveground mass (0.86±0.17 kg/plant) in the arid conditions of the subtropical climate of the Southern coast of the Crimea.

The aim of the work is to supplement and clarify the annotated list of vascular plants of “Castel” nature reserve on the Southern coast of the Crimea. Methods. The work is based on the results of long standing field research, which was carried out by the traditional route-reconnaissance method, analysis of YALT herbarium materials and data from literary and Internet sources. Arealogical and biomorphological characteristics of species are given according to "Biological Flora of the Crimea" by V.N. Golubev, biotope coding according to EUNIS habitat classification. The nomenclature of taxa corresponds to the " Spontaneuos flora of the Crimean peninsula" by A.V. Yena and to international databases Euro+Med PlantBase, The Plant List, Catalog of Life. Results. An additional annotated list of vascular plants of “Castel” nature reserve has been compiled, including 152 species, subspecies and cultivars from 97 genera of 38 families, of which 53 genera and 11 families have also not been cited for this territory before. Arealogical, biomorphological, biotopic and sozological characteristics of the taxa are given. As a result of a critical analysis of the list previously published by E.S. Krainyuk, four species were redefined, two species were proposed to be excluded from the flora of the specially protected natural area, several taxa are considered doubtful. Conclusions. The list of vascular plant taxa in “Castel” nature reserve has been supplemented with 11 families, 53 genera, and 152 species, subspecies, and cultivars; several species from the previously compiled list have been proposed to be excluded or considered doubtful. Thus, the flora of the protected area includes at least 425 species from 68 families. For the first time, the biotopic characteristic of the flora of the reserve was established.

Abstract Isodontia mexicana (Hymenoptera, Sphecidae), a New Invasive Wasp Species in the Fauna of Ukraine Reared from Trap-Nests in the Crimea. Fateryga, A. V., Protsenko, Yu. V., Zhidkov, V. Yu. - Th e North American wasp Isodontia mexicana was found for the first time in Ukraine in trap-nests operated near Pushkino (southern coast of the Crimea) in 2012. Th ree nests contained five cocoons, from which only one adult wasp emerged in 2013, allowing the positive identification; other cocoons were either empty (one) or destroyed by Melittobia acasta (three). Such a find of a newly established invasive species in Ukraine represents the easternmost point in its European range and possibly the most remarkable jump-dispersal event in its distribution.

This paper reviews the global status of phytoplasma disease associated with different ornamental crops. This paper investigated phytoplasmas, an equally important group of pathogens that severely harm the growth and marketing properties of ornamental plants, lowering their commercial worth. In this paper, number of ornamental plants was found to be infected with 'Ca. Phytoplasma' species and treatment techniques were adapted using tetracycline insecticides for elimination and emission of phytoplasmas.
