Apple trees with red flowers are especially attractive during the flowering period, making ones a desirable component of ornamental plantings. 30 samples of apple trees with anthocyanin organ coloring in the collection of Scientific Laboratory "Genetic resources, introduction, and breeding of unusual fruit and ornamental crops", located in Agronomic Research Station of the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine have been studied. In 2001 phenological observations during blooming and morphometric analysis of flowers and leaves were carried out, also decorativeness was evaluated. The dominant gene that controls the anthocyanin pigmentation of organs in the apple tree comes from Malus niedzwetzkyana. Now the rank of this taxon is reduced to a variety – M. domestica var. niedzwetzkyana. Niedzvetzky’s apple was involved in crossing with small-fruited apple species to develop ornamental hybrids, some of which received nothospecies names, and in the breeding of fruit varieties and rootstocks of M. domestica. According to the International Code of Nomenclature for Cultivated Plants, varieties with anthocyanin-colored petals having in the pedigree M. domestica var. niedzwetzkyana can be distinguished as Malus Niedzwetzkyana Group. If the Malus Niedzwetzkyana Group is supplemented with varieties with anthocyanin color of petals that originate from other species of apple trees, e.g., M. halliana and M. spectabilis, then the expanded Group can be called Malus Purpurea Group. At the same time, some varieties may belong to other Groups, in particular, Malus Pendula Group, Malus Redflesh Group, etc. The highest decorativeness (5 points) during blooming is inherent for the samples Nos. 2332 'Makamik', 2947, 3100 'Aldenhamensis', 3157 'Pionerka', 3305, 3382, 3540, 3592, 3601, 3603, 3656, 3691, 3692, 4292 and hybrids '17-279', '17-316', '18-275', '18-293', '18-325'. The samples No. 1723 'Lawn Krasnolepestnaya', 3314 'Royalty', 3375 'Black Pearl' are slightly inferior to them in decorativeness, but they have a special habitus or intense anthocyanin color of the leaves, which gives them certain advantages. The use of these samples allows you to establish a conveyor of elongated flowering of red-flowered apple trees at green construction sites.

Seaweed extracts have been used in organic agriculture to encourage the development and strengthen the quality performance of floricultural crops. The effectiveness of the seaweed extract is built entirely on hormone levels of plants or otherwise micro nutrients in the crude extract (primarily cytokines). A review of the use of seaweed on ornamental plants is carried out in the most modern research. Concerning their growth and flowering possibilities, the effectiveness of algae in ornamental plants has been validated. The purpose of this systematic review was to illustrate progress throughout the treatment of seaweeds for growth regulators to summarize the organic compounds of seaweeds as well as to investigate the challenges that encourage the application of macroalgae to manipulate various biotic and abiotic stress of crops. Seaweeds are still completely unaffected internationally; we emphasize several of the subsequent preferences for research and innovation. This whole review aims to facilitate the reader’s attention to utilize various seaweeds to increase the features and yield of ornamental crops.

Hydrangea macrophylla (Thunb.) Ser. is one of the most popular ornamental crops, used in landscape design. This article represents the study of the variety resistance of species and influence their of climatic change. In that sense the effective technology of plant shelter for the winter hardiness can be considered as a successful important factor for the promotion of this crop in northern area. Wherefore we consider in a comparative analysis of H. macrophylla varieties Forever & Ever Blue and Peppermint, which we carried out after winter hardiness in the conditions of central Russia. The most reliable and proven way to shelter for winter of hydrangea is the shelter of lutrasil, which contributed to an increase in the viability of shoots and the amount awakened buds, and also provided the better growth of shoots during the month. The highest percentage of overwintered shoots (77,8%), the amount of vegetative and generative buds (19,3±1,3 сm и 9,6±0,7 сm., respectively) and the total growth of shoots in spring (10,2 cm) were characteristic for variety Forever & Ever Blue for using lutrasil as a shelter. The study of ornamental and adaptive qualities of Malus Mill. from the genetic collection of ornamental crops of the Orenburg branch of the Research Center of Horticulture was carried out to assess the gene pool of introduced wild apple tree species and forms and identify suitable for the urban landscaping and the breeding process. Such characteristics as habitus, abundance of flowering, color and number of flowers in the inflorescence, color of vegetative organs, flowers and fruits during the season were taken into account; resistance to major diseases and adverse abiotic factors was evaluated. Additionally, the color of buds and flowers was characterized on the basis of the RHS (Royal Horticultural Society Color Chart). As a result of a preliminary survey on the complex of ornamental qualities and the level of adaptability, 5 most promising species were identified, which received the best ratings on the ornamental scale. Malus sikkimensis (Wenz.) Koehne ex C. K. Schneid. (31 points) was characterized by an attractive habit, the presence of flowers with a diameter of up to 40 mm and subsequently fruits that acquire a yellow-red color. Malus sargentii Rehder (29 points) was notable for its compact rounded crown, a large number of flowers with a diameter of 30 mm, followed by the formation of fruits with a dark red color. Malus floribunda Siebold ex Van Houtte (28 points) was distinguished by a large number of fragrant flowers in an umbrella-shaped inflorescence (5 — 7 pcs) with an average diameter of 30 mm, as well as attractive red-yellow fruits. Malus sieboldii (Regel) Rehder, M. toringo Siebold (28 points) was interesting primarily by the presence of 5 -7 flowers of 20 — 30 mm in the inflorescence and decorative fruits, the color of which varies from yellow to red. Malus niedzwetzkyana Dieck (28 points) attracted attention to the rich purple color of all organs due to the presence of a large number of anthocyanins, it was also worth noting the presence of a pleasant aroma during flowering and large flowers with an average diameter of 40 mm. The selected ornamental types of apple trees are favorable for use in landscaping of various scales, they are recommended for breeding work as initial parent forms.

Abstract The cut foliage constitutes an important part of the floricultural production since it represents a fundamental element in flower arrangements, and ferns are the complementary elements most used by florists. In Argentina, there is native material that has not been yet domesticated and could have suitable characteristics for foliage use. The objective of the work was to determine the potential use of 15 native ferns as cut foliage through quality parameters and vase life, generating a scoring system that allows a classification list. Morphological descriptors such as petiole length, length and width of the blade, planes in which the fronds are arranged, brightness, consistency, abundance of spores and presence of pests were taken into account. Also, the production of fronds of six selected species with good scores was recorded. The results showed that it is feasible to consider the commercial production of Pityrogramma calomelanos, Niphidium crassifolium, Campyloneurum nitidum, Blechnum austrobrasilianum and Pteris denticulata by the quantity of fronds obtained and their quality, represented by their size. Campyloneurum nitidum excelled for its vase life of more than 26 days and frond production of 273.61 fronds m-2 at second year cultivation. Pteris denticulata produces 179.44 fronds m-2 but vase life was only 7 days.

Abstract Synthetic insecticides are still widely used in gardens and greenhouses of ornamental crops to reduce populations of insect pests and preserve flower quality. The improper and unwise use of synthetic insecticides has caused various negative impacts on humans, insect pests, and the environment. Therefore, the quest for unharmed insecticides and environmentally friendly is being sought. The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of botanical insecticide formulation of neem and citronella oil to control long-tailed mealybug Pseudococcus longispinus. Four insecticide concentrations of neem, citronella oil and its mixtures (0.5, 1, 1.5, 2 per cent) were tested for their effectiveness by adding each with Latron at 0.5% as an emulsifier. Bioassays were performed in the laboratory by spraying insecticides on Phalaenopsis leaves infested with P. longispinus groups of one size class, mostly represented by the third instar nymphs. The results revealed that all insecticides tested caused mortality after 24 hours. The combination of neem and citronella in 1.5% provided adequate protection by reducing P. longispinus populations by up to 86%. Thus, botanical insecticides can be recommended as a viable alternative to synthetic insecticides against P. longispinus which infested orchids.

Relevance. In terms of the richness of colors, shapes and sizes of inflorescences and relative unpretentiousness during cultivation, as well as the duration of flowering of a dahlia, the cultural has no equal. Basically, this flower crop is grown in the open field and used for landscaping areas. Dahlias, due to their decorative properties, are a promising crop for cutting. But the growth in the volume of industrial cultivation of cut dahlias has long been constrained by two negative factors - the low life expectancy of cut flowers, and the fact that not all varieties of cultivated dahlias are suitable for cultivation in greenhouses. Therefore, the search for varieties that meet the aforementioned properties is an especially urgent task.Material and methods. The material for the study was 10 varieties of Dahlia × cultorum Dutch selection. They belong to different groups of dahlias – spherical: Souvenir d'Eté, The Voice, Jowey Winnie; decorative – Orion, Café au Lait, Fleurel, Karma Choc and pompom dahlias: Little William, Cornel Bronze, Petra's Wedding, All tubers were planted in phytotron beds. Phenological observations of plants were carried out according to the Methodology of State Variety Testing of Ornamental Crops. During the growing season, the following indicators were determined: the onset of phenological phases of development, the dynamics of plant growth, the number and size of inflorescences, the length of the peduncle, the duration of flowering.Results. It was found that all the studied varieties of cultural dahlias have a high decorative effect and are suitable for growing for cutting in greenhouse conditions. Growing plants in a phytotron allows you to get a high-quality cut almost two months ahead of time, as well as have a longer and more abundant flowering. It was found that the Café au Lait cultivar is not entirely suitable for cut cultivation in greenhouses or requires the development of cultivation technology that is individual for this cultivar. It was found that the Fleurel variety surpasses other studied varieties in terms of decorativeness, inflorescence size, peduncle length, onset time and flowering duration. A significant disadvantage of the variety is its high growth and fragility of the peduncles. The most popular cut varieties were Fleurel, Petra's Wedding, Jowey Winnie and Little William. It was found that the studied varieties of cultural dahlias were distinguished not only by high decorativeness, but also by high durability in a vase from 5 to 7 days.

Hellebores in a number of countries are economically important ornamental crops, and these plants are also sources of glycosides used for medicinal purposes. In the literary sources, it was not possible to find information on the variability of the traits of Helleborus viridis L., and this must be known for directed plant breeding. Therefore, the aim of this work is to analyze the polymorphism of quantitative traits in hellebore green in the collection of the Tsytsin Main Botanical Garden (Moscow, Russia). Quantitative data collection was carried out in 2021. There were 20 traits, including 2 traits of plant habit, 8 traits of a leaf, 6 for a flower and 4 for a fruit. Statistical processing of the data was carried out using the calculation of the coefficients of variation and carrying out one-way analysis of variance. It was found that a high percentage of polymorphism falls on the parameters of the leaf, and a low variability - in the traits of a flower and a fruit. Features of the genotype affect the parameters of leaves by 20-30%, and no significant effect on other parameters was found.
