INTRODUÇÃO: O processo ensino-aprendizagem extrapola a sala de aula, sendo que a extensão universitária contribui de forma significativa nesse processo, melhorando a condição do egresso na atuação do profissional da Educação Física. OBJETIVO: Este trabalho teve por objetivo apresentar o impacto na vida dos acadêmicos que além de participarem das aulas normais propostas na matriz curricular também se envolvem em projetos de extensão e o quanto estas atividades podem contribuir além de suas formações, mas com a melhora dos seus currículos. MÉTODOS: Este estudo e um relato de experiência que envolve três projetos de extensão que são desenvolvidos no campus da Unioeste de Marechal Cândido Rondon, do curso de Educação Física – Bacharelado. RESULTADOS: Três projetos que atualmente existem no curso de Educação Física – Bacharelado na Universidade Estadual do Oeste do Paraná, se destacam entre tantos outros, por impactar de forma positiva na formação dos discentes além de proporcionar a comunidade exercícios de forma gratuita, para populações de diferentes idades, sendo eles o projeto Coração de Ouro, com prática de exercício físico para idosos, o projeto Unioeste Runners que oferece treinamento de corrida de rua para jovens, adultos e idosos e o Projeto Futuro do Judô, que oportuniza esta prática esportiva para crianças, adolescentes e jovens de instituições públicas do município de Marechal Cândido Rondon. CONCLUSÃO: Evidencia-se neste trabalho a importância da participação em projetos de extensão no processo de formação universitária, proporcionando vivencias diferenciadas na vida profissional do egresso. ABSTRACT. Extension projects making a difference in the formation of physical education profissionals at Unioeste. BACKGROUND: Teaching-learning process goes beyond the classroom, and university extension contributes significantly this process, improving the condition of graduates in the performance of Physical Education professionals. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to present the impact in lives of academics who, in addition to participating in the normal classes proposed in the curricular matrix, are also involved in extension projects and how much these activities can contribute beyond their training, but with the improvement of their resumes. METHODS: This study is experience report that involves three extension projects that are developed on the Unioeste campus of Marechal Cândido Rondon, the Bacharelado Physical Education course. RESULTS: Three projects that currently exist in the Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education at the State University of Western Paraná, stand out among many others, for having a positive impact on the training of students, in addition to providing the community with free exercise, for populations of different ages, being the Heart of Gold project, with physical exercise for the elderly, the Unioeste Runners project, which offers running training for young people, adults and the elderly, and the Future of Judo Project, which provides this sports practice for children , adolescents and young people from public institutions in the municipality of Marechal Cândido Rondon. CONCLUSION: This paper highlights the importance of participate in extension projects on university education process, providing differentiated experiences for the egress of great relevance for the future professional.

The present study focused on preservice classroom teachers’ beliefs about elementary physical education and the impact of a field-based elementary physical education methods course on their beliefs. Participants (N = 97) completed questionnaires at the beginning and at the end of the course. Results indicated that the preservice classroom teachers held similar beliefs about the values and purposes of elementary physical education as were shared by physical education professionals. The methods course had a positive impact on the participants’ beliefs but no impact on their disposition toward teaching elementary physical education. Teaching physical education in an elementary school setting and observing physical education classes were the two most important components of the course that contributed to changes in the participants’ beliefs.

Abstract This article examines young people’s experiences of open access youth work in settings in the UK, Finland, Estonia, Italy and France. It analyses 844 individual narratives from young people, which communicate the impact of youthwork on their lives. These accounts are then analysed in the light of the European youth work policy goals. It concludes that it is encouraging that what young people identify as the positive impact of youth work are broadly consistent with many of these goals. There are however some disparities which require attention. These include the importance young people place on the social context of youth work, such as friendship, which is largely absent in EU youth work policy; as well as the importance placed on experiential learning. The paper also highlights a tension between ‘top down’ policy formulation and the ‘youth centric’ practices of youth work. It concludes with a reminder to policy makers that for youth work to remain successful the spaces and places for young people must remain meaningful to them ‘on their terms’.

Apprenticeships are the key means by which the UK government aims to build skills and tackle the problem of youth unemployment. However, not all young people are able to secure an apprenticeship. Traineeships, a voluntary six-month programme of work placements and work preparation training, were introduced in England in 2013 to help equip young people with the skills and experience required to secure an apprenticeship or employment. The analysis in this paper uses linked administrative data on the population of trainees and a comparison sample of non-trainees to evaluate the impact of the programme on employment and apprenticeships. It uses a local instrumental variable approach, which allows selection into a traineeship to be influenced by unobserved preferences and for impacts to vary according to these preferences. The heterogeneous impacts can be aggregated to form an estimate of the average impact of treatment for all participants. The results show no overall impact on employment for younger trainees (16-18 year-olds) but an across-the-board positive impact on the probability of becoming an apprentice. For older trainees (19-23 year-olds), no significant impact on either employment or apprenticeships is evident among participants as a whole but the results suggest that, for those more resistant to participating, traineeships may actually reduce the probability of becoming an apprentice. These results confirm the effectiveness of traineeships as a means of facilitating apprenticeships among younger people. As such, they support the policy target of achieving 3 million apprenticeships by 2020.

The poverty-related attainment gap is an internationally recognised problem. There is growing recognition that it cannot either be understood or addressed without taking cognisance of children’s mental health and wellbeing. The focus of this conceptual article is to examine the impact of social inequality and poverty on the mental health and wellbeing and attainment of children and young people in Scotland through the lens of resilience. While not a ‘state of the art’ literature review, a systematic approach was adopted in the selection of the literature and in the identification of themes to emerge from it. A range of risk and protective factors at the individual, social, societal and political levels emerged as impacting on the mental health and wellbeing and attainment of children living in poverty, and three important mediating variables are the negative impact of social stratification and adverse childhood experiences and the positive impact of a supportive adult. Schools alone cannot solve the problem. The findings revealed that there is a need to build a strong infrastructure around families and schools and to examine how economic, social, health and educational policy interact with each other as a starting point in addressing the problem, supported by inter-disciplinary research.

With the recognition that smoking begins in youth and that tobacco products are readily available to those under 18 years of age, new Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations restrict the sale, distribution, promotion, and advertising of cigarettes to minors. The objective is to decrease the use of tobacco by young people and consequently reduce the future morbidity and mortality from tobacco. Pharmacists currently have three choices with regard to the sale of tobacco in pharmacies: display and sell tobacco products, refuse to sell tobacco products, or make tobacco products available but counsel on smoking cessation. Each choice, as well as the impact of the new FDA regulations on pharmacy, is discussed.

The Rwandan refugee camps in Tanzania witnessed the marriages of very young adolescents: girls as young as 13–14 married boys of 14–15 years, boys they often did not even know. These marriages usually did not last very long; after a few months many girls were forced to leave—sent away by their husband. People of both sexes and all ages, when asked about the problems in the camp, would always mention these child marriages as one of the biggest problems. They were worried not only about the loss of respect for Rwandan culture and traditional values but also about the future of the marriages and what would become of the children. This article is not based on extensive research into child marriages, but the author was able to interview a number of young people who had got married in the camps, and to collect information and the opinions of other people on these and other cases. Rather than describing marriage customs and wedding ceremonies in Rwanda, and comparing them with what took place in the refugee camps, the article aims to show the impact of (civil) war, the consequent poverty and the destruction of social structures on a community, in order to show how in these circumstances behaviour can change radically. Refugees have to build up a new life in a camp, and the new ‘society’ is likely to be different from the one they came from, with different rules and changed values. Among various examples of deviant behaviour child marriages were the most remarkable.

Participating in sports and physical activity has physical, psychological, cognitive and social benefits for everyone, including young people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The practice environment and instructorship are significant inclusion factors for young people with ASD. A safe, attractive and easy-to-access environment has a positive impact on the practice of physical activity for all disabilities, ASD included. Nonetheless, the teachers and coaches are not always informed of the condition of the young people for which they are responsible and they may not have been trained to adapt their coaching to the reality of these young people. They may not have the knowledge, openness or resources to properly integrate a person with ASD in their group. Hence, it is relevant to give them tools so they can intervene more adequately with people living with ASD.

<p>The primary aim of this study is to investigate the impact of a mobile flashcards application, Quizlet, on the students’ performance and autonomy in vocabulary learning. The study also attempts to explore the perceptions of students and their teacher about incorporating this application into the teaching, learning and practicing of target vocabulary in English language preparatory classes. To achieve these objectives, a nonrandomized quasi-experimental research design was adopted. The participants were selected from two intact classes of Turkish EFL students enrolled in a language preparatory program at a foundation (non-profit, private) university in Istanbul, Turkey. The data was collected through pre- and post- vocabulary tests, an online survey, student interviews and a teacher’s reflective journal. The findings revealed that Quizlet had a positive impact on students’ performance and their autonomy in vocabulary learning. The overall perceptions of participating students and their teacher about using Quizlet to teach and learn English vocabulary were also positive. Based on these findings, the study provides practical implications and offers suggestions for integrating mobile learning into English language preparatory classes.</p>

Professional attitude has a key role in performing any duty. If a person lacks positive professional attitude or has natural attitude towards his/her profession then it creates many problems. So there for positive professional attitude has fruitful results in performing any task. This study was initiated to know the impact of demographic difference, locality and gender upon professional attitude of physical education professionals. Total 125 participants participated in this study which was selected through purposive sampling technique. Consents of 77 male and 48 female were taken for the purpose of gender based difference impact and in which 50 were from rural and 75 were from urban setup. It was for locality wise difference. Data was collected through questionnaire and was analyzed by using SPSS. The concluded results shown that gender differences has no significant impact upon professional attitude of physical education professionals and similarly locality is also has no significant impact upon professional attitude of physical education professionals. Both groups were found same in locality basis and gender basis. The mean score of both groups were found significantly same.
