= Librarianship as a science and skill of the organization of knowledge and its products is evolving and, like all other scientific or practical disciplines, it is forced to keep up with the times. In this evolutionary path, traditional theories and notions of libraries and librarianship as professions are changing and reaching far beyond the traditional ones – almost to the limits of science fictions. Nevertheless, theories which were until recently considered fictional literary and artistic performances are today already seen from an extremely constructive and rational perspective. One of the most interesting examples is the experience and vision of the library in the fictional world of Jorge Luis Borges. Following his prophetic observations woven into his literary universe, many scholars from various fields, are trying through a multidisciplinary approach to reconstruct and create an image of the library of the future reshaped in a way that can respond to demands of modern times. Mostly thanks to the enormous technological development and challenges it brings, visions of a Universal Library seem feasible and lead to rethinking of existing and creating new theories about the future role of the library and the essence of library practice. It is interesting and challenging from today’s professional perspective to think about the way that library will be understood in the near or distant future, what it will look like and which of the existing visions – scientific or literary – will be closer to realization in reality.

Trauma or injury to the bones and joints has been a challenging state of affairs since the times of prehistoric man. Fracture in Ayurveda is termed as Bhagna which is brilliantly explained and tabulated under the heading ‘Bhagna Chikitsa’ in the classical texts. Acharya Sushruta, the father of Surgery and the pioneer of Sushruta Samhita has described absolute about fracture’s etiology, classification and various techniques for its management. Asthi un- dergoes musculo-skeletal, traumatical injuries resulting in Bhagna i.e. Fracture which implies to breach or break in the continuity of a bone. It can be classified into two main types-Kanda Bhagna and Sandhi-Mukta. Basti is a basic and remarkable therapy in Asthi-related diseases. As Vata Dosha contributes extensively for the occurrence of Asthi-related diseases because of the Asharya-Asharyi Bhava. The present paper reviews the role and mode of action of Anuvasan Basti in the healing of a fracture. The description available in Ayurvedic texts are as much pertinent in modern times as they were in past. Keywords: Bhagna, Fracture, Anuvasan Basti, Ayurveda

This study aims to understand the perceptions of Filipino’s registered nurses about nursing in the past, present and in the future. Colaizzi’s methodological approach to phenomenological inquiry was utilized in analyzing the data gathered from this study. The participants of the study are Filipino Registered Nurses who are residing or working either in Filipino or abroad. After significant statements were extracted from the transcripts of the responses and the analysis of the formulated meanings emerged into four themes. The four clustered themes emerged were: EXTINCTION: A course before time, with five subthemes, Nurses are assistants to doctors, Limitation in the scope of learning and practice, Nursing: A woman’s job, Nursing: A calling to serve, and Human touch against mechanical works; ENHANCEMENT: A profession of the modern time, with five subthemes, Enthusiasm in the nursing career, Nurses are respected healthcare providers, More empowered, more opportunities, In search for greener pastures, and Dependence on technology; EMERGENCE: A 21st Century breakthrough in care, with three subthemes, Age of Innovative and technological development, Globally-competent nursing practice, and Computerized Documentation and Recording; and ENCOMPASSING: Nursing as a Caring Profession. These Filipino registered nurses lived and described their rich experiences from a phase of the 4 E’s: Extinction, Enhancement, Emergence and Encompassing Phase. It is quite evident that the nursing profession has greatly evolved through time. As time passed by, the amount of care is not diminished but further enhanced with the advent of modern technology. AbstractThe COVID-19 pandemic is sweeping the world and will feature prominently in all our lives for months and most likely for years to come. We review here the current state 6 months into the declared pandemic. Specifically, we examine the role of the pathogen, the host and the environment along with the possible role of diabetes. We also firmly believe that the pandemic has shown an extraordinary light on national and international politicians whom we should hold to account as performance has been uneven. We also call explicitly on competent leadership of international organizations, specifically the WHO, UN and EU, informed by science. Finally, we also condense successful strategies for dealing with the current COVID-19 pandemic in democratic countries into a developing pandemic playbook and chart a way forward into the future. This is useful in the current COVID-19 pandemic and, we hope, in a very distant future again when another pandemic might arise.

The publication Being a happy midwife describes the role of midwives. The first chapter explains the change of the vocation over time, from its very beginning to the challenges of modern times. The publication emphasises community midwifery, as well as the personal commitment that is closely related to this occupation. Therefore, the publication contains special chapters focused on midwifery practices in the hospital in Vrchlabí and on water births. The final chapter is devoted to the challenges of the present time and describes the development of midwifery in the future. All chapters have one common topic: Midwives’ desire to work freely according to their competencies and with full professional responsibility, and thus become happy midwives.

In the early Internet, art history crossed the path of media history and both disciplines conveyed characteristics of each other. Net (based) art did not regain the utopian potential of art, but its social, aesthetic and conceptual approach referenced the future role of digital communication. This chapter documents and examines the role of the art network THE THING in early digital communication and art practice and how it anticipated the future potential to communicate, distribute, and produce. Including the theory and practice that informed the founding of THE THING, as well as an interview with THE THING founder, Wolfgang Staehle, and a concluding timeline of THE THING's history, this chapter also emphasizes how THE THING was both playful and far ahead of its time.

We attempt to forecast the future in order to ensure that today’s decisions and the actions which follow will continue to be relevant as the future becomes the present. Historically, forecasts of the kind and direction of technological development have consistently been better than forecasts of the timing, application and impact of such developments. The latter, however, are the more important when assessing what changes are likely to be significant. The paper examines both technical and environmental factors which make this sort of forecasting difficult and considers their relevance to the particular circumstances posed by high volume component manufacture. Against this general background, the paper speculates on the future role of such companies, the development of techniques and technologies to maintain their competitive position and the adjustments necessary to meet changes in both social and trading environments.
