The article considers the actual problem of chicken manure disposal at poultry farms, which is an urgent issue for any poultry farm, due to the fact that poultry manure is a hazardous waste. The paper presents an alternative method for disposing of poultry manure and generating heat and electricity using a gas generator set. (Research purpose) The research purpose is in determining the possibility of using poultry manure as fuel in a gas-generating plant to reduce the cost of energy supply to poultry farms. (Materials and methods) Authors used research methods based on the application of standard methods, while the object of research was the energy supply of a poultry farm. The article presents the mathematical model for determining the parameters of a gas generator set. (Results and discussion) The article presents a developed technology for recycling poultry manure with simultaneous production of heat and electricity. The results of experimental studies of the operation of the gas generator set on bird droppings presented in the form of graphs. The characteristics of the operation of the gas generator set on poultry manure were determined, as well as the composition of the pyrolysis gas: CO – 25 percent, CO2 – 18, CH – 17 percent; the pyrolysis temperature was about 700-800 degrees Celsius. Taking into account the characteristics of poultry manure as fuel, an experimental sample of a gas generator set was constructed. (Conclusions) The developed technology for the disposal of poultry manure solves the environmental problem of poultry farms, reduces the economic costs of waste disposal. During recycling, additional energy is is directed to the needs of production.

The objective of this research is to establish an appropriate operating strategy for a radiant floor heating system that additionally has an air source heat pump for providing convective air heating separately, leading to heating energy saving and thermal comfort in residential buildings. To determine the appropriate optimal operating ratio of each system taking charge of combined heating systems, the energy consumption of the entire system was drawn, and the adaptive floor surface temperature was reviewed based on international standards and literature on thermal comfort. For processing heating loads with radiant floor heating and air source heating systems, the heating capacity of radiant floor heating by 1 °C variation in floor temperature was calculated, and the remaining heating load was handled by the heating capacity of the convective air heating heat pump. Consequently, when the floor temperature was 25 °C, all heating loads were removed by radiant floor heating only. When handling all heating loads with the heat pump, 59.2% less energy was used compared with radiant floor heating only. Considering the local discomfort of the soles of the feet, the floor temperature is expected to be suitable at 22–23 °C, and 31.5–37.6% energy saving compared with those of radiant floor heating alone were confirmed.

The article is devoted to the importance of energy saving in lighting systems in poultry farms. The article proposes to use mainly energy-saving lamps when equipping poultry farms with lighting devices. Also, attention should be paid to lighting modes, the spectrum of light, the optimization of which will also help save energy resources.

In consideration of the current situation that college buildings are still heated as normal without occupancy, causing energy waste, the on-duty heating will be adopted in college buildings without occupancy under the premise to ensure the indoor comfort requirements. In the case of one college, the energy saving rate and cost saving rate were evaluated for college buildings that used zone and time control heating systems for buildings of different functions. The results show that the annual heating energy saving rate is 34.5%,and the annual heating cost saving rate is 51.5%. In similar collage buildings, 5.48kg of standard coal and 14.43Yuan per square meter of structure area can be saved per year if using zone and time control heating.

Indonesia poultry consumption has increased year by year, with the average positive growth rate of 4.6%. This situation can be a chance for both small and large scales of poultry farmers, considering that poultry consumption is increasing every year. The rate of poultry production in Gunung Sindur was correlated with the amount of the existing poultry farms. Romli Farm was a small scale poultry farm in Gunung Sindur, Bogor. This poultry farm, with no partnership, could independently survive amongst the many other existing farms. However, although the opportunities were wide open, this business was not always viable for the farmers because many of small-scale farmers could not be able either to increase the income or to carry on the business. This research aimed to study the income, financial feasibility (NPV, IRR, Net B/C Ratio, and PP), the BEP of Selling Price, and the BEP of Product in Romli Farm.

During the operation of poultry farms a large amount of poultry manure is accumulated. Surface wastewater from landfills for storing poultry manure can become the main source of pollution of natural waters. Thus, one of the most important problems of environmental protection is the development of effective systems for protecting aquatic ecosystems from pollution by waste water generated at landfills for storing poultry manure. The purpose of research was the analysis of water protection systems for treatment of surface wastewater from the territory of poultry farms. The authors of the article consider the problem of protection of water bodies from contamination by surface wastewater from the catchment area of poultry farms. The example of surface wastewater from the catchment area of the poultry farm “Sverdlovskaya” has shown the negative impact on water ecosystems. Our own studies of snow contamination from the catchment area of the poultry farm have shown a high content of not only organic and biogenic substances, but also heavy metals. A biotechnology of wastewater treatment using natural ion-exchange materials, followed by bioregeneration of the latter by higher aquatic vegetation, has been developed. The use of an accumulative phytofilter is an effective method of protecting water ecosystems from contamination by surface wastewater from catchment areas of poultry farms, and the design ensures not only the environmental friendliness of the technology, but also naturally fits into the landscape of the area.

The development, implementation and monitoring of the Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan require a significant amount of data and analysis, as well as an effective and comprehensive decision making process. This chapter presents the pilot application of the proposed “MPC+ (Map - Plan - Choose - Check)” framework, through the “Action3” Decision Support System, in a Greek energy-producing community. The pilot application is conducted in three phases, namely the development of the baseline emission inventory (Phase I), the creation and evaluation of alternative Scenarios of Actions (Phase II) and the monitoring of the actions and measures implemented (Phase III). The city's univocal economy orientation of energy production through lignite is considered as a basic, inhibitory factor towards sustainability. In this respect, the city has committed to implement a series of appropriate renewable energy and rational use of energy activities in its territory, laying balanced emphasis on the local energy and heat production, and the promotion and implementation of measures on energy savings. A significant part of the CO2 emissions' reduction will come from the installation of biomass district heating systems in local communities.
