The increasing diversity of variants in the automotive industry through new models and electrical derivatives motivates a rethinking of body shop construction. In „SmartBodySynergy“ (SBS), a flexible body shop is being developed in workshop production. For its implementation, flexible joining cells are necessary. This article examines the use of device-free, camera-controlled component positioning for use in variant- and process-flexible joining cells and introduces a demonstrator cell.

Presented is the concept of paint shop operation for the automotive industry – Paint Shop 4.0, based on the ideas of Industry 4.0 and Digital Factory. A new approach to the issue of car body sequencing, taking into account the actual structure of the paint shop department with buffers, has been presented. In the created application, proprietary car body sequencing algorithms were implemented.

The research on lightweight construction increasingly gains in importance, especially for the automotive industry. New lightweight components ensure the necessary stability of car body parts on the one hand. On the other hand they are supposed to allow a low priced production. Hence, aluminum or magnesium alloys have quite a large share in production engineering. During the last years, research mainly addressed metal/plastic compounds. Weight reduction as well as the capability of producing complex structures are only some of the benefits of this technology. Furthermore, additional functionality can be integrated or functional tasks can be distributed: The metal ensures stiffness and realizes the technical connection to the car body by means of welding, while the plastic enables the insertion of special elements for the joining or assembly process. This paper presents two approaches of realizing a combined process to produce aluminum/plastic-hybrid structures. In a first approach, an active tool is presented to realize the sheet based process. The second approach focusses on the tube-based process and presents the topical state of research within the Federal Cluster of Excellence EXC 1075 “Merge Technologies for Multifunctional Lightweight Structures”.

In order to buffer the randomness failure of automated production car body shop is growing tendency to set buffer between lines to solve this problem. Then how to design the buffer capacity is the problem. This article did analysis of the basic planning data of body shop, then provides how to build simulation model and how to design the buffer capacity base on different planning phases through simulation analysis.

The transition to the “green” model of the economy is a complex strategic task that requires a combination of two development vectors: maintaining dynamic economic growth and long-term preservation of the natural environment. One of the key directions for resolving existing environmental problems is associated with decarbonization and improving the eco-friendliness of vehicles. Almost all the world’s automobile corporations are actively developing electric transport technologies and launching an increasing number of new models into mass production, offering alternative fuel sources. This paper investigates trends in the greening of the global automotive industry, the resulting threats and risks of the development of the national automotive industry, identifies the reasons for the environmental instability of the Russian automotive industry.

In today's highly competitive global market place the pressure on organizations to find new ways to create and deliver value to the customers grows ever stronger. There have been many new ideas and concepts in business management over the last thirty or so years, some of which have endured and others discarded. However, perhaps one of the most significant principles to become widely adopted and practiced is that of just in time, or JIT. It is a philosophy as much, as it is a technique; it is based upon the simple idea that wherever possible no activity should take place in the system until there is a need for it. With increasing pressures on profits, due to the launch of several new models, with marginal differences in prices, Indian Automotive companies would do well to move towards JIT purchasing systems. Given the extent and variety of constraints and the existing purchasing mindset in Indian Automotive industry, it'will take some more time to understand and practice the technique. This paper attempts to understand the possibilities of implementing JIT technique in the Indian automotive industry. This will help the automotive component manufacturers to effectively formulate their marketing strategies to create value to their OEM customers. It also helps the vehicle manufacturers to be competitive in the end market.

This paper deals with the problematics of fixation of hemmed joints, especially with one specific mechanical method how to ensure a dimensional stability of a hemmed joint of car-body parts, such as doors, bonnet and trunk lid, during the production process in the automotive industry. It also evaluates simulations and verify the possibility of the use of the Autoform software for this problematics. In the paper, the possibility of using the law of similarity in the analysis of the compressibility of small parts by Autoform is described.
