A domestic purpose micro wind turbine realised using bamboo blade is tested for the power generation at an interval of two years and compared the performance. A CFD analysis of turbine with five blade system is carried out for an average wind velocity of 2.5m/s and structural integrity of the bamboo blade unit based on the pressure distribution is assessed. For the input wind velocity, a stream lined out flow of 5.9 m/s is found when wind turbine rotates at 300 rpm and corresponding pressure distribution is found to be maximum at the expected location of blade tip as129 Pa. The static analysis shows a good margin. For 2.5 m/s, a wind turbine generates an average value of 3.8V with 0.25A (based on 15 <span>Ω</span>/10W load). The wind turbine has produced nearly the same power even after a period of two years.

In this project, Polluted water sample from a Pond is collected for treating it by using Natural Coagulants. The pond is located in Madarpakkam Village, near Gummudipoondi, Tamilnadu, India. There were 4 water samples collected from four different points around the pond at depth of 0.5m, 1m, 1.5m and 2m. The water samples were analyzed for physical and chemical parameters with reference to the code IS 10500-1991. The objective of this project is to reduce the level of turbidity and bacteriological contaminants from water using locally available Natural Coagulants and to reduce the concentration of particular matter such as suspended particles, parasites, bacteria, algae, virus and fungi and to make use of the treated water for domestic purpose, as it reduces cost about 30% to 70%, the usage of these Natural coagulants will be more in future. It is nontoxic and non-corrosive. So, it is safe for human health. The usage of Natural coagulants can be increased in future as it increases the Water quality.

A systematic study has been carried out to explore the water quality index of ground water of various tehsils of Rampur district. Twenty five water samples from tube wells, open wells and hand pumps at various locations were collected and analyzed for pH, nitrate, turbidity, total dissolve solid, chlorides, total hardness, alkalinity and fluoride. In this study overall water quality of Rampur district is very poor and unsuitable for drinking purpose. Water quality of Bilaspur, Shahabad and Rampur city shows that water may not be used for drinking as well as domestic purpose. Present study recommends that the top priority should be given to water quality monitoring and indigenous technologies should be adopted to make water fit for drinking after treatment such as defluoridation, desalination.

This study investigates the feasibility of the utilization of monsoon rainwater for domestic purpose in Bangladesh. A survey was done in Rajshahi city in Bangladesh about the prospect and possibilities of rainwater harvesting (RWH). RWH system was not found in any individual or commercial apartment in the city. But, however, in rainy season, women about 46% houses used to collect rainwater from their roofs for domestic uses at least once in a year. In this study, a numbers of rainwater samples were collected from open atmosphere and through two different roof catchments (galvanized iron and concrete) and analysed the physico-chemical quality. pH of all the samples ranges from 6.3 to 7.7. The results showed the physico-chemical quality of the samples were found within the limits of WHO's standard of drinking water except the particulate matter in rainwater. The study recommend that the rainwater would be allowed to stand for 6-10 hours to settle more than 90% of the particulate matter and a 3-4 folds fine thin clothes could be used as filter to remove almost all particulate matter from the water. Moreover, the study observed that the microbial treatment technologies such as chlorination, solar or UV radiations would be technically feasible and economically sound to destroy micrograms in stored rainwater. Further research is imperative on potential indicators of both microbiological quality and health risk to minimize contamination of roof-collected rainwater.


Bangalore city consists of many artificial lakes which was constructed for domestic water supply, industrial, agricultural and also for recreational purposes. Due to huge population growth, pollution and urbanization the lakes of Bangalore is depleting day by day. Hebbal lake is one among the oldest lake in Bangalore, with its source being rainwater. Hence there is a need to study, restore and protect this lake. The present study deals with studying and analyzing the physicochemical parameters of Hebbal Lake at its different sampling points. The following parameters were analyzed in laboratory using different analytical methods i.e Temperature, Dissolved oxygen, Biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), Chemical oxygen demand (COD), Electrical conductivity, Total hardness, Total dissolved solids (TDS), and chloride. All other parameters were well within the permissible limits. The BOD exceeded the maximum limit as per the standards 6mg/lit prescribed by BIS. Water quality index was plotted to know its water quality fluctuations at different sampling points. The obtained results revealed the importance of lake restoration and management of the hebbal lake. It was concluded that the lake water could be used for domestic purpose, irrigation, and also for drinking purpose with proper filtration. This paper presents the qualitative assessment of hebbal lake and its remedial measures for water crisis in Bangalore city

The quality of water sources should be tested regularly for various parameters of interest to ensure it meet the standard qualities required for intended use(s). Thus, the suitability of Usuma dam water for domestic use in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory Abuja was assessed. The objectives were to assess the properties of Usuma dam water and ascertain its suitability for domestic purpose. A total of thirty (30) water samples were fetched directly. Ten (10) samples each from upstream, downstream and middle were collected. Precautions were taken to prevent sample contamination. Data collected were analyzed as follows: The water properties was analyzed using range and mean, suitability of water properties for domestic purpose was  analyzed by comparing range and mean values with Nigerian Standard for Drinking Water Quality (NSDWQ) and the World Health Organization (WHO) standard for domestic uses. Result showed that water sample were slight acidic (6.83), EC was low (122-180 µs/cm3), TDS (120-144 Mg/l), TSS (1.2-1.7 Mg/l, turbidity (0.29-5.37 Mg/l,) total hardness (7.18-40.46 Mg/l) DO (3.8-4.7 Mg/l), BOD (2.2-4.21 Mg/l), and (25.6-55.4 Mg/l). Minerals nutrients (Ca, Mg, Cl-,Na, K, NO-3 and PO-4. ) in water samples were lower than regulatory standard while heavy metals (Fe, Si, Zn, Pb, Cr, Cd, Cu, Mn, F and B) were relatively higher than regulatory standard. It was concluded that water from Usuma dam are not safe for domestic purpose especially drinking.

The remediation of surface water contaminated with domestic purpose kerosene (DPK) using Fenton’s oxidation was investigated at ambient temperature for effectiveness at optimum conditions established. Results obtained from optimization studies for the Fenton’s oxidation employed for the study were 250000 mg/L H2O2 and 300 mg/L FeSO4 at ambient temperature with pH of samples adjusted to 3.0. At the end of the chemical remediation, the Fenton’s oxidation was found to be rapid with the reaction being exothermic and followed second order kinetics. About 44.4% of the total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH) as kerosene removal efficiency was achieved after 90 minutes. The reaction also followed a pseudo-first order kinetics with the rate constant of 3x102 mol-1cm3min-1.

Ia Grai district is located in the remote area of Gia Lai province. The income mostly relies on agricultural activities. However, the water shortage for agriculture is an issue and the irrigation much relies on the seasonal rainfall. This study aimed to figure out the demand for water use and other sources of water for irrigation. Household interview, water quality testing and field survey were conducted at 3 communes: Ia Kha, Ia Hrung and Ia To due to their largest agricultural area. The results showed that surface water had good quality; groundwater was polluted by microorganism but in the acceptable levels. All the water indicators met the national standard for the domestic purpose (column A1) and for agricultural irrigation (QCVN 39:2011/BTNMT). Based on the current demand for water use, the amount of water needs in 2020 was estimated as well as the solutions for water management and protection was also proposed for Ia Grai district

This paper looks at the proposal for a community wage for domestic purpose beneficiaries as an initiative that recasts the gendered nature of welfare allocation. It raises broader theoretical questions on the implications of workfare for women's social status which has traditionally been defined in terms of their unpaid domestic work. It concludes that the government's retreat from an imposed workfare regime on domestic purpose beneficiaries with young children amounts to a reaffirmation of the primacy of the domestic role for women by the state. The paper takes the line that this state reproduction of women's domestic role legitimates women’s inferiority.
