It is known that there is a strong correlation between orthodontics and social psychology. The effect of the orthodontic treatment on facial esthetics has an important impact on attractiveness and personality of the patient. This correlation should be taken into consideration in all the phases of the orthodontic treatment: patient exam and problem list, treatment planning and type of orthodontic appliance, assessment of the orthodontic treatment. The evaluation of the orthodontic treatment results is different for the doctor and the patient and has led to a change of the paradigm, that of the soft tissues, which puts aesthetic and functional positions equally for the establishment of the treatment plan and for its evaluation.

Complete correction of Class II malocclusion in an adult patient is not an easy task. In a case with large skeletal discrepancy, orthognathic surgery is the treatment of choice. However, in case of slight or borderline discrepancy, other treatment options are available, such as tooth extractions and miniscrews. Intermediate cases can also be treated with Class II correctors and elastics. This clinical report presents the orthodontic treatment of a 25-year-old female patient with Class II malocclusion. Clinically, the maxilla was well positioned, and the mandible was slightly retruded. The patient presented vestibularized upper incisors, well-positioned lower incisors and opted for a more aesthetically attractive orthodontic appliance. The treatment plan included teeth leveling and aligning in both arches, Class II correction, establishment of Class I molar and canine relationships, correction of overjet and overbite, midline correction, and improvement of facial and dental aesthetics. The orthodontic treatment consisted of removable Invisalign aligners and Class II elastics.

This case report aims to increase awareness of how an adenomatoid odontogenic tumour (AOT) can present in a similar fashion to a dentigerous cyst and the importance of accurate histopathological diagnosis. In this case, the AOT resulted in loss of the upper left permanent canine in a patient who already had a congenitally absent upper left second premolar, compromising the original orthodontic treatment plan.

Purpose: Edentulism has been demonstrated to have negative social and psychological effects on individuals that include adverse impacts on facial and oral esthetics, masticatory function and speech abilities, that when combined, are translated into significant reductions in patients’ quality of lives. It is well-known that immediate placement of implants is a challenging surgical procedure that requires proper treatment planning and surgical techniques. Therefore, the present study describes a 4-year follow-up case report where short implants were placed in an atrophic mandibule and were loaded with the utilization of an all-on-four prosthetic protocol. Case report: A 54 year-old woman dissatisfied with her oral and facial esthetics, masticatory function and speech ability came to the implantology clinic of the Positivo University seeking for oral rehabilitation treatment. After detailed physical and clinical examination, a Computer Tomography scan (CT-scan) was performed to determine the patient’s bone ridge density, dimensions and eligibility for the placement of dental implants. The CT-scan results have indicated the presence of an extremely atrophic mandibular bone ridge. The CT-scan was also used as an aid during the final restoration treatment planning in terms of vertical dimension of occlusion, masticatory function, and stabilization of the lower denture. An all-on-four protocol supported by short implants was then treatment-planned to reduce time, costs and morbidity, and also to achieve superior immediate esthetic results and masticatory function. To reconstruct the patient’s atrophic edentulous mandibule, 4 short implants, including 2 distally tilted, were placed with a final torque of 45 Ncm. Results: Following the development and implementation of a complex treatment plan, the patient displayed stable soft and hard tissues at 4-year postoperative follow-up assessment, demonstrating the effectiveness of the all-on-four technique supported by short implants. Conclusion: Within the limits of this study, the present case report demonstrated that the all-on-four prosthetic protocol with immediate loading on short implant was effective in an atrophic mandible over a 4-year follow-up.

The need to develop and improve methods of diagnos is and treatment of patients with deformities of the jaws is determined primarily by the frequency of it prevalence. Dental anomalies occur in 33.7 - 49% of those examined. To improve the effectiveness of orthodontic treatment of patients with skeletal forms of sagittal anomalies of occlusion of the dentition, it is necessary to conduct additional methods of examination, computer modeling of treatment results, drawing up a comprehensive treatment plan. Clinical case. Patient 33 years old. Skeletal III class, Mesial occlusion of dental arches, Narrow upper jaw, Tooth crowding, periodontal problems, gingival loss. After additional diagnostic methods, computer simulation of treatment was performed, various treatment options were considered.

ABSTRACT Lower incisor extraction in orthodontic treatment was very rare modality of orthodontic treatment because there are few patients who meet the standards for such treatment. Proper diagnosis and treatment planning should be done to achieve good occlusion and facial esthetics. Criteria for lower incisor extraction included degree of crowding, tooth size discrepancy, pathologic condition, vertical overbite, sagittal incisal relationship, skeletal growth pattern and age of the patient. This article comprises of a case of class I malocclusion treated with lower incisor extraction, with comprehensive analysis, diagnosis and treatment planning, treatment results were satisfactory. Clinical significance Mandibular incisor extraction can be an effective treatment option in borderline cases with mild crowding in lower arch. Minimal alteration of mandibular arch form is key factor for success and stable results. How to cite this article Raju DS, Veereshi AS, Naidu DL, Raju BHVR, Goel M, Maheshwari A. Subject. Facial aesthetics is an important motivating factor for many patients seeking orthodontic treatment. An aesthetically pleasing and balanced face is one of the objectives of orthodontic treatment. An understanding of the soft tissues and their normal ranges enables a treatment plan to be formulated to normalize the facial traits for a given individual. Aim. The aim of the present study is to further investigate the use of soft tissue analysis in the quantification of facial profile, and to investigate differences between different ethnic and gender groups. Methodology. A number of studies considered on various aspects of facial measurements in orthodontics. Results. Skeletal, dental and facial profile differences exist, when subjects from distinct ethnic groups are compared. Thus, each group should be evaluated differently, considering their racial characteristics, in order to produce better diagnosis and treatment planning. The necessity and acceptability of teeth extraction during orthodontic treatment and its effects on facial profile, has greatly concerned orthodontists for many years and has not lost its urgency till now. However, the definition of an attractive and pleasing face is subjective, with many factors involved (culture, personality, ethnic background, age). On the other hand, several medical specialties (orthognathic and plastic surgery, orthodontics, dental prosthetics) have the ability to change facial features. Hence, there is a need for clinicians working in the maxillofacial area to know the aesthetic standards of a face that guide the aesthetic soft tissue treatment goals in their patients. Conclusion: It will be useful to conduct investigations for further definitions and observations of correlated relationship between hard and soft tissues of maxillofacial system by taking into consideration: the patient's age at time of treatment, type of anomaly, differences in maxillofacial anatomical structures of various ethnic groups.

Abstract: Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry that studies about how to prevent, protect, and care of malocclusion involving teeth, as well as skeletal and soft tissues of dentofacial region. Fixed orthodontic appliance is one of the means used to achieve the treatment goal. The use of orthodontic bracket is one of the main components in fixed orthodontic treatment which serves to deliver the required force on the teeth. This study aimed to determine the amount of Cr and Ni ions released from the stainless steel bracket (brand A, B, and C) immersed in sea water. This was a laboratory experimental study with a pre-experimental and nonequivalent control group designs. Samples were assayed using UV-Vis spectroscopy to determine the release of the metals: nickel and chromium. The samples consisted of 4 kinds of brand bracket immersed in sea water for 48 hours at a temperature of 37ºC. The results showed that the release of nickel and chromium ions in sea water varied in each sample. In sample A, the release of nickel 0.096 ppm and of chromium 0.202 ppm. In sample B, the release of nickel 0.154 ppm and of chromium 0.027 and. In sample C, the release of nickel 0,066 ppm and of chromium 0,019 ppm. The release of chromium in each sample was higher than the release of nickel. The results showed that there was no particular pattern of the released ions. This might be due to the different composition of the stainless steel brackets depending on the terms of each manufacturer. Facial clefts are considered as predominant malformations of the oro-facial sphere due to their frequency, aesthetic and functional repercussions. The overall prevalence of cleft palates is estimated at 1 per 700 births in the general population, with 77% of isolated cases, 16% associated with another malformative pathology, and 7% associated with a known syndrome. They can disrupt soft tissues (upper lip, nasal threshold, nasal wing, palate veil), hard tissues (alveolar arch, dental germs, palate), or both. They constitute a congenital dysmorphosis for which the therapeutic management extends from birth to the end of adolescence. Orthodontic care has evolved considerably in recent years, mainly due to the synergy of the different specialities involved in the care of these children by the multidisciplinary team. These cleft lips and palates have a multifactorial and complex etiology requiring a multidisciplinary approach. Orthodontic treatment has a strategic place in this treatment and involves temporary, mixed, and permanent dentition. The aim of this article is to review the place of dentofacial orthopaedics in the therapeutic calendar of facial cleft management.
