This research presents a simulation analysis for the AC-DC converter circuit with a different configurations of the array connection of the piezoelectric sensor. The selection of AC-DC converter circuits is full wave bridge rectifier (FWBR), parallel SSHI (P-SSHI) and parallel voltage multiplier (PVM) with array configuration variation in series (S), parallel (P), series-parallel (SP) and parallel-series (PS). The system optimizes with different load configurations ranging from 10 kΩ to 1 MΩ. The best configuration of AC-DC converter with an appropriate array piezoelectric connection producing the optimum output of harvested power is presented. According to the simulation results, the harvested power produced by using P-SSHI converter connected with 3 parallel piezoelectric transducer array was 85.9% higher than for PVM and 15.88% higher than FWBR.

Tilt vibrations inevitably have negative effects on some precise engineering even after applying horizontal and vertical vibration isolations. It is difficult to adopt a traditional passive vibration isolation (PVI) scheme to realize tilt vibration isolation. In this paper, we present and develop a tilt active vibration isolation (AVI) device using a vertical pendulum (VP) tiltmeter and a piezoelectric transducer (PZT). The potential resolution of the VP is dependent on the mechanical thermal noise in the frequency bandwidth of about 0.0265 nrad, which need not be considered because it is far below the ground tilt of the laboratory. The tilt sensitivity of the device in an open-loop mode, investigated experimentally using a voltage controller, is found to be (1.63±0.11)×105 V/rad. To compensate for the hysteresis nonlinearity of the PZT, we experimentally established the multi-loop mathematical model of hysteresis, and designed a parallel controller consisting of both a hysteresis inverse model predictor and a digital proportional–integral–differential (PID) adjuster. Finally, the response of the device working in close-loop mode to the tilt vibration was tested experimentally, and the tilt AVI device showed a good vibration isolation performance, which can remarkably reduce the tilt vibration, for example, from 6.0131 μrad to below 0.0103 μrad.

This report describes the design of a new piezoelectric transducer for round window (RW)-driven middle ear implants. The transducer consists of a piezoelectric element, gold-coated copper bellows, silicone elastomer (polydimethylsiloxane, PDMS), metal cylinder (tungsten), and titanium housing. The piezoelectric element is fixed to the titanium housing and mechanical resonance is generated by the interaction of the bellows, PDMS, and tungsten cylinder. The dimensions of PDMS and the tungsten cylinder with output characteristics suitable for compensation of sensorineural hearing loss were derived by mechanical vibrational analysis (equivalent mechanical model and finite element analysis (FEA)). Based on the results of FEA, the RW piezoelectric transducer was implemented, and bench tests were performed under no-load conditions to confirm the output characteristics. The transducer generates an average displacement of 219.6 nm in the flat band (0.1–1 kHz); the resonance frequency is 2.3 kHz. To evaluate the output characteristics, the response was compared to that of an earlier transducer. When driven by the same voltage (6 Vp), the flat band displacement averaged 30 nm larger than that of the other transducer, and no anti-resonance was noted. Therefore, we expect that the new transducer can serve as an output device for hearing aids, and that it will improve speech recognition and treat high-frequency sensorineural hearing loss more effectively.
