Nowadays, there is a growing tendency in the use of cold formed constructions, which may be explained by good strength to cost ratio. Thus, the goal of this paper is to review the behaviour of cold formed steel connection. The article reviews most up to date publications on testing and description of beam-tobeam, beam-to-column and truss connections. In brief, the properties of cold formed steel connections have been found to be semi rigid, where the main factor affecting stiffness is bearing forces around the bolthole. The article also focuses on the technique to increase stiffness of cold formed connections.

Structural steel has many advantages over other construction materials by its high strength and ductility. It has a higher strength to cost ratio in tension and a slightly lower strength to cost ratio in compression when compared with concrete. This paper is intended to evaluate the beam column rolled and cold formed steel connection experimentally by moment resistant connection such as stiffened, un stiffened and splices connection. At the present, in most of the countries, the use of light gauge cold formed steel section has been developed for economical and best seismic performance by different shape of cross sectional area and various types of connections are used. These results to study the seismic performance of cold form steel sections area using various moment resistance connections. Finally the report result the splice connection has best moment resistance connection, seismic resistant of structures, load carrying capacity is high and minimum weight compare with other types of connections. The splice connection has load carrying capacity is high, so we can reduced the size of section and prevent the base shear due to reduced the weight of structures.

Nowadays, cold-formed constructions are being used more frequently on construction sites because of the good strength-to-cost ratio. However, insufficient studies are published examining the properties of these constructions. This paper investigates the behaviour of bolted gusset-plate joint since it is one of the easiest ways to connect a beam to a column. The paper presents analytical calculations using the component method and experimental test results. The joint was investigated using the mechanical model of three springs. The mechanical model for the calculation of bolt group stiffness was created according to Eurocode 3 Part 1–8 Stiffness formulations (EN 1993-1-8 2005) (originally, it is recommended for elements that are 4 mm and thicker). The technique for the calculation of the stiffness of a gusset plate is presented. The strength of the joint was calculated using the technique introduced in Eurocode 3 (EN 1993-1-8 2005; EN 1993-1-1 2005; EN 1993-1-3 2006; EN 1993-1-5 2006).

The double C steel section is made of two C steels with gusset plate through bolts. A ridge joint of double C steel is studied through experiment under cyclic loading in this paper. Through the four specimens with different gusset-plate’s thickness and bolt spacing, we analyze the effect of the gusset-plate’s thickness and bolt spacing on stiffness, ductility and energy performance. At last we recommend the suitable gusset-plate’s thickness. The results can give a reference to the engineering application of cold-formed steel structure.

High-strength bolted connection is widely used for steel structure construction. Because high-strength bolted connection has simple constructability and structural qualification. Especially friction type with high-strength bolted connection has high stiffness and fatigue strength. At this time, initial clamping force is one of main factor to affect the strength and deformation behavior of connection. Therefore, the objective of this study is to investigate reduction of initial clamping force in high-strength bolted connection under fatigue load. And the parameter of this study is the size of the bolt and 3 types of initial clamping force. The analysis is used the finite element analysis program ANSYS Workbench.

The concept of cold-formed light steel framing construction has been widespread after understanding its structural characteristics with massive research works over the years. Connection serves as one of the important elements for light steel framing in order to achieve its structural stability. Compared to hot-rolled steel sections, cold-formed steel connections perform dissimilarity due to the thin-walled behaviour. This paper aims to review current researches on cold-formed steel connections, particularly for screw connections, storage rack connections, welded connections, and bolted connections. The performance of these connections in the design of cold-formed steel structures is discussed.
