The banking sector in the global economic system is an area of great impact on the preservation of macroeconomic stability. As it turned out, and during the recent economic crisis, whose consequences are still felt in many countries, the collapse of the financial markets has farreaching effects on all of the national financial markets. The aim of this paper is to analyze the existing regulation of the financial markets and its (lack of) performance in the current financial risk management in order to preserve macroeconomic stability, and provide a secure and stable banking system. The purpose of the study was to present financial regulation before the crisis of 2008 / 2009, and to compare it with the regulations issued after the global crisis of 2008 / 2009 in order to conclusion whether it is cosmetic or real changes of regulating the financial system, and whether existing regulation in the future successfully prevent minor and major disruptions of the financial markets. Croatian financial market is especially analysed in the case of manipulation using the benchmark interest rates.

AbstractThis article introduces a special issue ofBusiness and PoliticsonProperty Rights, Financial Risk, and the Politics of a Networked Global Financial System. We introduce aspects of the articles in the issue and situate them within existing literatures in financial economics, public policy, political economy, regulation and governance, and network science. We do this through examining four key contributions in the special issue. First, we show that common conceptualizations of property rights in financial markets ignore the multidimensional nature of financial goods; examples of all goods types can be found in modern finance, and this fact has important implications for the politics and regulation of these markets. Second, we argue that models of financial actors as independent, atomistic agents neglect the relational nature of financial markets, and argue that theory and methodology from network science, financial economics and political economy provide useful ways to analyze these interdependent systems. Third, we discuss how the relational nature of risk leads to hierarchical patterns of financial interdependence, which bequeaths substantial amounts of power—within both market and political systems—to those actors that occupy core positions within the structure of interdependence. Fourth, we integrate ideas from papers in this special issue and related literature with concepts from the Ostrom School of political economy to consider how monitoring, self-governance, and polycentric applications might improve financial market governance. This issue's papers thus constitute one of the first combined attempts to bring the Ostrom School into substantive conversation with financial market governance and risk analysis through comparative and international political economy disciplines.

Individuals across the globe have become increasingly active in financial markets. The advent of new technology, the availability of various financial products, the liberalization of the economy and the support of an efficient banking system have all facilitated the participation of investors in Indian financial markets. Household savings form a significant part of investments in any economy. In Indian context, the percentage of savings is quite high. The high percentage of savings in India is primarily on account of the savings made by women in India. The role of women in investment decision-making in India cannot be ignored. Therefore, the objective of the study is to provide insights into the characteristics that act as strengths and weaknesses of women and to bring out the opportunities and threats faced by them as investors. In the present study, the diverse literature available worldwide on investment decisions of women has been explored and analysed. The findings of the study revealed that women are holistic thinkers, balanced, intuitive and quality conscious. They adopt a futuristic approach and perform in-depth research prior to investing. They are good savers and at the same time self-controlled. All these characteristics acts as their strengths while undertaking investment decisions. On the other hand, risk aversion, conservative attitude, lower levels of financial knowledge, lack of confidence, too much dependence on guidance from others, reluctant to cause unnecessary change in status quo, poor health and religiousness are their weaknesses. The microfinance, financial literacy and women empowerment initiatives intend to provide opportunities for their growth and development whereas a lesser amount of pay, shorter and interrupted employment history, and exclusion from informal networks act as threats to women’s financial well-being. The study suggests that the endeavours made by women and the support from the society is needed in order to convert the weaknesses and threats of women into their strengths and opportunities for them, thereby improving their participation in financial markets.

The aim of the article: The crisis, both in the economic and financial markets, can lead to a sudden downturn and a loss of savings. For this reason, during a crisis, safe investments are essential to reduce risks and avoid losses. This year’s coronavirus pandemic has caused a lot of confusion in the financial and investment world as well. The pandemic led to turbulence in the financial market and made investors look for the so-called safe havens. In the literature, these havens often include alternative investments with a high demand for gold. This article aims to check the validity of using gold as an investment during a pandemic. Methodology: In the paper, in order to achieve the formulated aim, the following stages were carried out: critical analysis of the literature regarding the factors influencing investment decisions and the characteristics alternatives instruments. The last stage was based on statistical analysis using the Pearson correlation method. Gold prices were compared with quotations of two price indexes: WIG20 and S&P500. Results of the research: The conducted analysis shows that gold as an alternative investment is a good hedge in times of crisis, therefore, it is also the case during ongoing pandemic. Alternative assets fulfill a hedging function, minimizing the risk of losses. Moreover, thanks to a negative correlation with the market, they give a possibility to increase investors’ capital in times of crisis.

In terms of financial market risk research, with the rapid popularization of non-linear perspectives and the improvement of theoretical reasoning, scholars have slowly broken through the cage of linear ideas and derived new and more practical methods from non-linear perspectives to make up for the shortcomings of traditional research. Based on the support vector classification regression algorithm, this research combines the typical facts and characteristics of financial markets, from the perspective of quantile regression and SVR intelligent technology in computer science, to explore the research method of financial market risk spillover effects from a nonlinear perspective. Moreover, this research integrates statistical research, machine learning and other related research methods, and applies them to the measurement of financial risk spillover effects. The empirical analysis shows that the method proposed in this paper has certain effects, and financial risk analysis can be performed based on the risk spillover effect measurement model constructed in this paper.

The importance of investment decision-making cannot be overstated since many of the factors that result in a firm’s success or failure are directly tied to the choices of decisions made. When wrong investment decisions are made, they are not easily reversible and if the firm persists or reverses them they may lead to bigger losses. It is for this reason that this research sought to investigate factors affecting investment decisions among listed firms in the Nairobi Securities Exchange. The study focused on the following factors: financial market information, investment risk, investor’s financial knowledge, and firms’ profitability to establish whether they influence investment decisions. The study employed a descriptive survey design and targeted 178 finance managers of the 67 firms listed on the NSE. Stratified and purposive sampling techniques were adopted in this study and a questionnaire was used to collect data. The researcher employed descriptive and inferential statistics to analyze data collected from the study. The results were analyzed and presented using tables. Based on the results, the researcher concludes that the four independent variables; financial market information, investment risk, firms’ profitability and investor’s financial knowledgesignificantly influence investment decisions of firms listed on the NSE.
