Technical Notes - The article presents the concept of the hybrid communication system for the purpose of maritime applications. The main idea of this system is that it will utilize the seamless roaming concept, which means the communication link at sea will be established automatically (and seamlessly for the user), using many possible communication techniques (cellular, LTE, Wi-Fi, VDES, etc.) which will be selected depending on the current conditions of the radio channel and the requirements and preferences of the user. The paper will introduce the general architecture of the system, the concept of the maritime cloud and the seamless roaming, including the way the latter will be implemented in the system. The authors will also briefly introduce the proposed test-bed of the system’s on-board device. The system presented in the article is one of the major topics of the EfficienSea 2 project (co-funded from the ‘Horizon 2020’ programme) in which the authors of the paper participate.

Machine learning (ML) has been broadly connected to the upper layers of communication systems for different purposes, for example, arrangement of cognitive radio and communication network. Nevertheless, its application to the physical layer is hindered by complex channel conditions and constrained learning capacity of regular ML algorithms. Deep learning (DL) has been as of late connected for some fields, for example, computer vision and normal dialect preparing, given its expressive limit and advantageous enhancement ability. This paper describes about a novel use of DL for the physical layer. By deciphering a communication system as an auto encoder, we build up an essential better approach to consider communication system outline as a conclusion to-end reproduction undertaking that tries to together enhance transmitter and receiver in a solitary procedure. This DL based technique demonstrates promising execution change than traditional communication system.

We study the anti-interference performance of the 802.11 system when it works as Data Communication System (DCS) in Communication Based Train Control (CBTC). We first conduct extensive experiments on a 802.11b network to assess the ability on a lab test bed, then the outdoor experiments are also conducted. In the presence of jammer, we find that in each case of interference model, there exists a C/I threshold which determine the DCS-Access Point (DCS-AP) and DCS-Station Adapter (DCS-STA) communication performance. In the outdoor environment, different interference sources are adopted to investigate the data throughput value and other parameters of the DCS system under the critical state.

Application of a high-efficiency voice communication systems based on broadband over power line-power line communication (BPL-PLC) technology in medium voltage networks, including hazardous areas (like the oil and mining industry), as a redundant mean of wired communication (apart from traditional fiber optics and electrical wires) can be beneficial. Due to the possibility of utilizing existing electrical infrastructure, it can significantly reduce deployment costs. Additionally, it can be applied under difficult conditions, thanks to battery-powered devices. During an emergency situation (e.g., after coal dust explosion), the medium voltage cables are resistant to mechanical damage, providing a potentially life-saving communication link between the supervisor, rescue team, paramedics, and the trapped personnel. The assessment of such a system requires a comprehensive and accurate examination, including a number of factors. Therefore, various models were tested, considering: different transmission paths and types of coupling (inductive and capacitive), as well as various lengths of transmitted data packets. Next, a subjective quality evaluation study was carried out, considering speech signals from a number of languages (English, German, and Polish). Based on the obtained results, including both simulations and measurements, appropriate practical conclusions were formulated. Results confirmed the applicability of BPL-PLC technology as an efficient voice communication system for the oil and mining industry.

Visible light communication technology is a emerging wireless and optical communication technology developed after invention and application of white LED.In this paper, we have a research based on indoor visible light communication system of lighting white LED,discuss of the visible light communication channel characteristics, detailedly analysis of the indoor visible light communication link. This paper focuses on the modulation and demodulation method applied to visible light communication. In the past visible light communication is mainly used off keying modulation, however, the data transfer speed is limited due to the influence of ISI .This paper presents a solution based on OFDM modulation and demodulation, to reduce the impact brought from inter-symbol string under high data transfer speed.Based on data analysis and computer simulation, the program presented in this paper can be used as indoor lighting and high-speed data transmission. Finally, give scheme to achieve visible light communication modulation and demodulation, provide a theoretical basis for further experiments.

Using the JAVA language we have developed a Web-based picture archiving and communication system PACS which allows a remote hospital to access medical images. An asymmetric satellite data communication system ASDCS provided a receive-only link for data delivery and a conventional terrestrial link which could be the conventional telephone network allowed data transmission. The satellite communication link was 10- 30 times faster than the conventional terrestrial link. To increase image transmission speeds over the Internet connection, JPEG and wavelet compression methods were used. The resulting images were evaluated quantitatively by measuring the peak signal:noise ratio and qualitatively by radiologists. Compression ratios of 10:1 or less were deemed acceptable for diagnostic purposes. The system appears to be suitable for teleradiology and telemedicine.

Reliable power network can provide reliable operation of electric power for dispatching communication security, due to many key network nodes external connectivity in the electric power communication network has only one path, so once the link damage because of emergencies, these networks because of the failure of nodes (or communication link) and power operation scheduling of exception can occur easily, thus to cause great damage to the safe operation of the whole power network. In order to improve the robustness of system in this case, this paper designed a new optimization algorithm based on the equivalent network to simplify the real network and the network analysis.
