The study considers the possibilities of using advanced digital technologies in dental practice and training. The Digital Smile Design methodology has been characterized; this is an innovative technological solution used to perform an aesthetic analysis, plan the virtual treatment tactics, draw up a plan of necessary dental procedures, as well as visualize the preliminary therapy result. As part of the "Aesthetic Dentistry" course, the technological capabilities of the Digital Smile Design software have been studied. The study involved 25 four-year students of the Department of Prosthetic Dentistry, Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University. At the initial stage of the research, the students were provided with digital photos, including a 3D model of the dental arcade and surrounding soft tissue and video materials of the clinical case, on the basis of which a smile in accordance with the morpho-psychological characteristics of the patient was designed. The students tested the technological capabilities of the Digital Smile Design software, in particular SmileDesignerPro, AestheticDigitalSmileDesign, Cerec SW 4.2, PlanmecaRomexisSmileDesign, VisagiSMile, DSD AppbyCoachman, 3Shape SmileDesign, ExocadSmileCreator, DentalTreatmentSimulation ™ PRO. Based on the results obtained, the key advantages of the Digital Smile Design methodology in aesthetic and orthopedic dentistry have been identified. Having studied the process of designing a digital smile within the framework of the "Aesthetic Dentistry" course and conducted a survey of students to determine the practical convenience of the technologies, the Digital Smile Design software was ranked according to its advantages in dental practice and training.

Most educational models that prescribe teaching and training methods to groom school children into innovators fail to take a deeper view of engineering design methodology. Yet others tend to ignore the importance of human values which must be an integral part of any innovative design process.  In this paper, We would first disaggregate design capabilities into its constituent capabilities, namely, exploring, creating and converging capabilities, which we need to master to produce better products and services, and then show how the cognitive and affective skills proposed by Benjamin Bloom, and Anderson and Krathwohl in their educational models can directly and significantly contribute to these constituent capabilities. With an improved understanding of the eco-system needed for better design solutions, we suggest that the present education systems, especially in developing countries, be critically reviewed and reoriented from the perspective of producing quality innovative designers, regardless of the problem area.

Abstract Manipulation of plant growth via pruning and training methods has been carried out for as long as crops have been cultivated by man. These methods serve to not only improve the aesthetic value of ornamental plants, but also to increase yields, optimise fruit quality and prolong the productive life of horticultural crops. Pruning involves the selective removal of a diverse range of plant tissue. Branches, stems, roots, buds, flowers, leaves and young fruitlets may all be pruned depending on the purpose, species and growth form of the crop this is applied to. Training methods for horticultural applications are primarily used to support the plant and the weight of produce as it develops. Training structurally alters plant form, to alter the shape, size and direction of plant growth, it also allows optimal light interception and air flow and for ease of access for harvesting and other operations.

Purpose This paper focuses on the issue of global competitive advantage of nations, based on the dimensions analyzed by the World Economic Forum in assessing the economic competitiveness of a large sample of countries. From the different stages of development of the countries, this study aims to help us to recognize what variables better explain the global competitive advantage of economies. Design/methodology/approach Following quantitative analysis, results based on PLS show what dimensions within each economic development stage best explain the global competitive advantage of economies. Findings Beyond the institutions, infrastructure and regulation of the markets, higher education and training, the technological readiness, the business sophistication and innovation contribute greatly to explain the competitive advantage of economies. Originality/value Understanding the drivers of global competitive advantage of nations, this study may help academics to conduct new studies, as well as politicians to define intervention priorities.

Purpose The present study aims to reveal common and diverging trends in the development of pedagogical competences of vocational education and training (VET) teachers and trainers in Italy and Lithuania. Design/methodology/approach A structured survey was administered to Italian and Lithuanian teachers. The collected data were analysed and compared. Findings Results show that there are many common challenges and problems in the development of pedagogical competencies of the VET teachers in both countries; e.g.: the marginalisation of the VET teacher's work and working conditions, especially the dissatisfying wages and poor career opportunities, and the absent or weak institutionalisation of the VET teacher's qualifications and training. Originality/value The emerged results can be useful for directors of VET-centres and VET-schools to manage training and pedagogical growth of teachers both in Italy and in Lithuania. Moreover, the outputs can be considered as a set of suggestions also by the policymakers both at national and European level.

Introdução: A aparência estética é uma das preocupações do ser humano, o que leva a uma busca constante por uma estética que expresse harmonia, naturalidade e expressividade. Sendo assim, os procedimentos restauradores têm contribuído positivamente para a resolução dos desafios odontológicos estéticos. Objetivo e relato de caso: Relatar um caso clínico com associação de clareamento dental, confecção de pino intrarradicular e coroa indireta em dissilicato de lítio em que foi devolvida ao paciente a estética desejada. Pacientede 23 anos de idade fraturou o incisivo central superior direito na infância; insatisfeito com a instabilidade de cor do dente, buscou novas alternativas de tratamento. Conclusão: A associação de diferentes tratamentos na Odontologia estética pode apresentar resultados satisfatórios para o restabelecimento estético e funcional de dentes anteriores.Introduction: The aesthetic appearance is one of the human being concerns, leading to constant search for an aesthetic that expresses harmony, naturalness and expressiveness. So, the restorative procedures have contributed positively to overcome the aesthetic dentistry challenges. Objective and case report: Report a clinical case in association to dental whitening, making of intraradicular pin and indirect crown of lithium disilicate when it was returned to the patient the desired aesthetic. A 23 years old patient fractured the right central incisor in the childhood, dissatisfied with the tooth color instability, he looked for new treatment alternatives. Conclusion: The association of different treatments in the aesthetic dentistry might present satisfactory results to the aesthetic and functional reestablishment of anterior teeth.

Purpose This paper aims to explore how a new industrial revolution with digital technology at its core is disrupting the workplace. It shares how HR has an opportunity to use data and digital technologies to reinvent how organizations engage with their workforce. It answers the question of how HR pivots from its legacy focus on compliance and being a steward of employment to the work and helping the organization strengthen its connection with its workers through improved digital engagement. Design/methodology/approach The paper is based on Willis Towers Watson thought leadership and references recent findings from their research. Findings The paper explores how digital technologies have changed how workers connect with their co-workers and the organization. In addition, it examines how digital technologies are changing how work gets done. Research limitations/implications The paper is not exclusively based on research. Practical implications The paper explores how digital technologies drive engagement, HR’s role as steward of the work and enabler of digital engagement and best practices for enabling digital engagement in the modern workplace. Originality/value This paper fulfills a need to assist HR leaders in thinking through the implications of the future of work and how digital technologies will shape that future.

PurposeAdditive manufacturing (AM) is expected to significantly transform the operations in manufacturing sector. It is also proposed to have optimistic applications in the medical supply chains (SC). However, its adoption in medical sector is faced with a range of barriers. Motivated by the need to establish an AM-based medical SC in a developing economy, the present paper analyses the potential barriers that would hinder the adoption of AM in medical SC.Design/methodology/approachBased on an extensive literature review and expert discussions, 12 significant barriers have been identified, which are analysed using an integrated interpretive structural modelling–analytical network process (ISM–ANP) methodology. An interrelationship between these barriers using ISM has been analysed to determine the driving-dependence power of these barriers using MICMAC (Matrice d' Impacts Croises-Multiplication Applique' e a' Classement) analysis. The barriers are then ranked using the ANP approach.FindingsIt has been focussed that the non-availability of a variety of materials, lack of education and training to designers and workers and production technology limitation are the most critical barriers. The results suggest that the managers should give greater significance to the technological and organizational barriers.Originality/valueAn approach to overcome these barriers can help the managers and organizations to develop successful AM-based SCs. The study is the first to identify and analyse the barriers for successful adoption of AM in medical SC context.
