The mapping of agro-ecological zone, which is integrated with the suitability of land evaluation, will determine the ideal farming system. The ideal farming system including sustainable land management will support the food security scenario of a region. In this chapter, the implementation of fuzzy logic for mapping the agro-ecological zone is discussed. The agro-ecological zone in Boyolali is used as case study in which the mapping considers its physiographic characteristics and climate. Two physiographic characteristics are involved: slope of the land and elevation. Rainfall is used as representative of climate. The experiment results reveal that simple membership function with the Mamdani inferences system could help decision makers to classify the agricultural land in Boyolali.

The selection of hospital sites is one of the most important choice a decision maker has to take so as to resist the pandemic. The decision may considerably affect the outbreak transmission in terms of efficiency , budget, etc. The main targeted objective of this study is to find the ideal location where to set up a hospital in the willaya of Oran Alg. For this reason, we have used a geographic information system coupled to the multi-criteria analysis method AHP in order to evaluate diverse criteria of physiological positioning , environmental and economical. Another objective of this study is to evaluate the advanced techniques of the automatic learning . the method of the random forest (RF) for the patterning of the hospital site selection in the willaya of Oran. The result of our study may be useful to decision makers to know the suitability of the sites as it provides a high level of confidence and consequently accelerate the power to control the COVID19 pandemic.

A Danish pre-industrial farming system is reconstructed and compared to its modern industrialized farming system equivalent to evaluate agricultural performance in a sustainability perspective. The investigated Danish farm system and its contributing elements have undergone significant transformations. The intensity of contemporary agriculture shows that high productivity levels have been achieved by increasing the input of energy using modern machinery. At the same time, the energy efficiency (calculations based on energetic indicators) diminishes over time as the degree of dependence on fossil fuels increases. The results from this study show significant changes in the farming system, specifically inputs from agricultural land use, livestock, and energy systems. From being highly circular, the system changed to being a clear linear farming system with highly increased productivity but less efficient at the same time, questioning the relationship between productivity and efficiency and resource utilization in modern farming systems. Through utilizing an agroecological historical approach by comparing system performance over time, the results offer opportunities to explore how agricultural farming systems evolve over time and help to describe the complexity of the system level in a sustainability perspective.

Abstract The siting of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) landfills is a complex decision based process that involves multiple hydrogeological, morphological, environmental, climatic, and socio-economic criteria. In a fuzzy logic environment, DEMATEL and ANP methods were employed to comprehensively consider uncertainty, fuzziness of data and the subjective scoring and stability of results to enhance the spatial decision-making process. Primarily, 21 criteria were identified in five groups through the Delphi method at 30m resolution, criteria weights were determined via the integration of DEMATEL and ANP, and seven sets of membership functions were simulated to obtain the best fuzzy logic environment. Combining GIS spatial analysis and the three clustering algorithms (DBSCAN, HDBSCAN, and OPTICS), candidate sites that satisfied the landfill conditions were identified, and the spatial distribution characteristics and reachability were analyzed. These sites were subsequently ranked utilizing the MOORA, WASPAS, COPRAS, and TOPSIS methods to verify the reliability of the results by conducting sensitivity analysis. This paper focuses on a flexible and novel framework for the selection of MSW landfill sites for Lanzhou, which is a semi-arid valley basin city in China. In contrast to common techniques, this model not only made the best recommendation scientifically and efficiently but could also provide accurate assessment data for decision makers in landfill construction and high-quality urban development.

This paper addresses the spatial differentiation of food consumption patterns. The objective is to identify theeconomic and natural determinants of consumption levels and of differences in foodstuffs consumed around the world in the 2000s. The study was based on data delivered by FAOSTAT and the World Bank. An analysis was performed of global correlation trends between economic factors (GDP per capita), natural and geographic factors (agricultural land per capita, and the food availability status. Also, cluster analysis was used to group the countries around the world by percentage share of plant, animal and aquaculture products in the dietary energy consumption (kcal/capita/day), and by agricultural land per capita. Based on the analyses, the economic factor was found to significantly prevail as a determinant of food security fordifferent nations. The size of the dietary energy consumption and the share of animal products in it depend primarily on the domestic product per capita. Also noticed was the relatively low importance of natural conditions, expressed in this paper as agricultural land per capita. Based on previous research, the suitability of land for agricultural purposes was found to be historically important for human settlement around the world, though currently it is not the key determinant of food security. Also, the importance of aquaculture in addressing the global population’s food needs was found to be marginal though spatially differentiated.

Agriculture produces jointly market and non-market outputs, and their supply depends on the nature of production. The role of agriculture as an economic activity and its consequences are essential for the Lithuanian case study, as agricultural land covers more than a half of the Lithuanian land. The market does not consider the positive and negative externalities created in agroecosystems. Therefore, specific techniques such as stated preferences methods are used for evaluation of non-market outputs in agriculture. Works by foreign researchers provide a comprehensive analysis of the aspects of nontradable agricultural aspects, usually focusing on evaluation of the benefit or damage to society from agricultural activity. There is lack of an integrated evaluation of farming system outputs in view of the specifics and intensity of farming. The main aim of this paper is to present construction of the methodology for integration of evaluation of farming system outputs in Lithuania, with the main focus on non-market outputs, as the values of agricultural market outputs are clear and fully revealed in official statistics. The conventional and organic farming has been selected for the Lithuanian case study. For the both farming systems, the research covers crops (including both cereals and industrials crops) and livestock (including dairy and cattle) production. The choice experiment (CE) method was selected as appropriate for evaluation of non-market outputs of different farming systems in Lithuanian agriculture. The nested logit was selected for econometric modelling of the value of non-market agricultural outputs. Applying the constructed and checked methodology, consumers’ willingness to pay for agroecosystem public goods of different farming systems will be elicited during the main survey.

The present study was undertaken to assess the impacts of rice-prawn gher (RPG) system on farm productivity, food security and poverty reduction in Bangladesh. In this study, farm survey data, extracted from a comprehensive questionnaire from two study villages viz. Bilpabla (RPG farming) and Chanchra (year-round modern variety–YRMV) located in Khulna and Jessore district, respectively were analyzed deliberately. This study consists of a random selection of ninety farmers from Bilpabla Village and one-hundred farmers from Chanchra. The study indicates that RPG farming system has significant impacts on farm productivity. On an average, yield of modern variety (MV) was reasonably higher in RPG farming system than that of YRMV farming system. In addition, the households engaged in RPG farming system (Bilpabla Village) have simultaneously generated more household income and per capita income (more than twice), relative to YRMV farming system (Chanchra Village). Moreover, the households of Bilpabla are superior to those households residing in Chanchra in terms of physical, social and economic access (purchasing power) which permits them to acquire and consume well-balanced food as well as sufficient calorie intake.
