Today’s world is characterized by globalization and the rapid advance of information technology. To face such unprecedented change and survive, enterprises have to continuously review their products, services, and relations with the environment. Information systems, which have now become an integral part of business, are relied on to assess the quality of products and effectiveness of services. Unfortunately, very often software system does not properly support businesses. The causes may be poorly-defined assessment of requirements, deficiencies in proper business understanding by the software design team, or even the nature of the business (which may change so often that the software simply cannot keep pace). According to Davenport and Short (1990), the relationship between business process design and information systems has never been fully exploited in practice.

Patient care in the registration section of the hospital is a very important activity, because there is a recording of patient data that will be used by other health workers in providing further health care. The use of information technology in the registration section can increase work effectiveness and efficiency and produce accurate information. For this reason, it is necessary to analyze the factors that affect the benefits of using information technology in the registration section. This study aims to examine the relationship between the quality of information systems, the ability of officers and the performance of information users at RSI Siti Rahmah Padang, Indonesia. The research was conducted with survey method and data analysis using a quantitative approach. From the research results, it was found that the quality of information systems did not affect the benefits of using information technology. Meanwhile, the ability and performance of officers affect the benefits of using information technology. It is suggested that the scope of the use of information technology in the medical records section be increased. It is necessary to increase the ability of officers in the use of information technology by holding training or workshops.

Abstract

Information systems and information technology (IS / IT) is one of the factors that influence the success of an organization. For instance, information systems and information technology in an organization called the Department of Industry and Labor (Dispernaker), Salatiga. SI/TI in Dispernaker in its used has not be maximzed yet ,because the use of SI/IT in the Dispernaker has not been maximal. This matter causing data in the dispernaker not well structured. This problem Happen because of random Datas. Besides, there are a part of business process that still take manually. Dispenaker Salatiga also doesn't have strategic planning of SI/TI. By the conditions of the problem, we need a strategic plan of IS / IT to support business processes in an organization (in this case Dispernaker) while strategic planning is itself is a process of how organizations achieve theirgoals. To be able to apply strategic planning according to the organization is through a research. The researchis astudy is a strategic planning of information systems and information technology. The research will use Ward and Peppard method by analyzing the business environment and the IS / IT internally and externally. The method has some analysis, the analysis used are SWOT, Value Chain and PEST, Five Force Model, McFarlan Strategic Grid. The results of the study will be recommendations related to the vision and mission. Researcher hopes that these recommendations can be used to improve the quality of public services.

The interaction of quality management and knowledge management are analyzed quite widely in scientific literature and discussed with reference to various models integrating these two management theories. However, there are not enough precise tools that could provide a possibility of improving the quality of products and services through knowledge management. To this end, the article examines the already existing models for the interaction between quality management and knowledge management. The results of a survey on Lithuanian industry show what organizational knowledge is the most important while implementing quality management principles aimed at improving quality. The correlation analysis method showed the relationship between quality management principles (process approach, continual improvement, management, facts) and the factors defining the product and process quality (the extent of determining process execution time, process resources, costs of process stages, indicators for products and/or services, the duration of the process, the extent of measuring indicators, the extent of collecting information on indicators, the extent of collecting information about the costs of the process). Santrauka Kokybės vadybos ir žinių vadybos sąveika mokslinėje literatūroje analizuojama gana plačiai, aptariami įvairūs sąveikos modeliai integruojant šias dvi vadybos teorijas. Tačiau nepakankamai nagrinėjamos konkrečios priemonės, kuriomis būtų galima pagerinti produktų ir paslaugų kokybę pasitelkiant žinių vadybą. Tuo tikslu straipsnyje analizuojami jau egzistuojantys kokybės vadybos ir žinių vadybos sąveikos modeliai bei pateikiami Lietuvos pramonės įmonių tyrimo rezultatai, parodantys, kokios organizacinės žinios svarbiausios įgyvendinant kokybės vadybos principus, skirtus kokybei gerinti. Taikant koreliacinės analizės metodą nustatyta, kad egzistuoja ryšys tarp kokybės vadybos principų (procesinio požiūrio, nuolatinio gerinimo, valdymo remiantis faktais) įgyvendinimo lygio ir veiksnių, apibūdinančių produktų ir procesų kokybę (procesų įvykdymo laiko nustatymas, procesų išteklių nustatymas, procesų etapų išlaidų nustatymas, produktų ir (ar) paslaugų rodiklių nustatymas, rodiklių matavimas, rodiklių informacijos rinkimas, informacijos apie proceso trukmę nustatymas ir informacijos apie proceso išlaidas rinkimas).

Recently, the use of information technology has become important and critical, for organizations, as it enhance the quality of products and integrity of organizational services. However, the implementation of such systems is still problematic. Due to globalization and the variation in the monetary, social and technological environments, Information Systems (IS) have turned out to be an imperative feature and high priority for different kind of organizations. In this regard, critical success factors play a vital role in successful implementation of IS. This paper evaluates and analyzes the critical success factors (CSFs) of IS implementation from the Saudi managers’ perspective in different industries in Saudi Arabia. This study will also present the illustration or identification of 19 critical success factors, which are based on a review of literatures and the first phase of a study in Saudi industries. The study will also rank those 19 factors in a logical way and will characterize them into three categories of factors, including organisational, human and technological factors.

In recent years, business process modeling has increasingly drawn the attention of enterprises. As a result of the wide use of business processes, redundancy problems have arisen and researchers introduced the variability management, in order to enhance the business process reuse. The most approach used in this context is the Configurable Process Model solution, which consists in representing the variable and the fixed parts together in a unique model. Due to the increasing number of variants, the configurable models become complex and incomprehensible, and their quality is therefore impacted. Most of research work is limited to the syntactic quality of process variants. The approach presented in this paper aims at providing a novel method towards syntactic verification and semantic validation of configurable process models based on ontology languages. We define validation rules for assessing the quality of configurable process models. An example in the e-healthcare domain illustrates the main steps of our approach.

The relationship between industrial and scientific knowledge and systems methodologies is discussed in this paper. As the measure of the former on the macro level, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is assumed to be the consequence of systems’ Research and Development (R&D), which is estimated indirectly by the number of articles published in academic journals in the last 40 years. It is assumed that Production, Management and Information Systems (IS) can be considered suitable main representatives of the quality of organizational processes and that GDP is their consequence. In turn, the Systems Approach (SA), Systems Engineering (SE), Operational Research (OR), Information Systems Development (ISD) and Simulation represent the methodology set for coping with organizational complex processes. We looked for the articles containing the aforementioned variables as topic keywords in core scientific databases. Results show a sufficient correlation between the number of publications and the GDP.

Information technology implementation is an intervention we make in order to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of a sociotechnical system. Using microcomputers to help individuals perform their jobs and tasks is one of the most important actions we take when implementing this technology effectively. Information systems effectiveness has been extensively studied using, mainly, user satisfaction and quality of information constructs to evaluate users’ acceptability (Iivari & Ervasti, 1994; Ives et al., 1983; Neumann & Segev, 1979). However, sometimes, the result of this intervention is not successful and may even generate difficulties related to people participation in the process. This leaves us with a question: What motivates individuals to use microcomputer technology in their daily activities? Theorists and empirical researchers have been trying to understand the relevant motivators for the implementation and use of computer technology based on the idea that people make an effort if an activity is enjoyable or offers external rewards (Igbaria et al., 1996; Schwartz, 1983). They have been aiming to find out how individuals feel motivated to work with computers, and what motivates them to use computers in their daily activities.

While the importance of IT coupled with organizational changes for business performance has been widely discussed in the information systems (IS) literature, there has been little empirical research on the issue. This research examines empirically the relationship between IT and diversification by employing multiple diversification measures. It also examines empirically the relative impact on performance of IT and diversification. Results show that diversification coupled with increased IT spending improves firm performance when its strategic emphasis is on related diversification. The results also show that firms place strategic focus on related diversification when they increase IT spending, and that they require more IT when their strategic emphasis is tilted toward related diversification. The findings imply that by providing a better means of coordination, IT enables scope economies, efficient utilization of business resources and collaboration across individual business units, eventually leveraging the benefits of diversification.
