Online learning today demonstrates comparability with face-to-face learning. New digital technologies provide an improved and immersive learning experience for students and related educational ecosystem. A virtual learning environment (VLE), for example, is an online-based platform that provides digital solutions for teachers and students that enhance the learning experience. This chapter observes the main elements of virtual learning environments, together with an evaluation of the VLE blackboard system design, and discusses how blackboard facilitates teaching, learning, and communication in HEIs. Findings suggest that the weaknesses of blackboard could be compensated by the opportunities, whilst threats should be considered by the policymakers to enrich the teaching and learning experience. Recommendations and future potential research are also provided.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to present critical educator reflections on the pivot from the traditional physical accounting classroom to the virtual learning environment amidst COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns. Design/methodology/approach This paper outlines the reflexive experiences of two accounting educators on their scholarly journey into virtual learning and their inhabiting of the virtual accounting classroom. We adopt a critical stance in exploring what has been lost and insights gained. Findings We heed caution in the ongoing reliance on digital technologies and virtual learning that strip accounting education of its richness and complexity. Although the virtual learning environment brings with it benefits of accessibility and flexibility, it fails to replace the complexity of human connection, authenticity and informal spontaneity found in face-to-face learning. We further contend that COVID-19 presents an opportunity to rethink accounting education. We encourage educators to embrace this opportunity as a force for educational transformation; to reimagine an accounting education that embraces change, ambiguity and humanistic qualities such as empathy, compassion and humility. Originality/value Our critical educator reflections explore the impact of COVID-19 on the humanistic qualities at the heart of education and on the future of accounting education. This paper contributes to the scholarship of teaching and learning during global pandemics and other crises.

The increase number of Covid-19 outbreak has profoundly changed our education system. This condition has led the teachers to alter the face-to-face learning into online learning. Online learning emphasizes on the internet-based courses synchronously and asynchronously. Besides its technical problems, conducting online learning was said to be monotonous since the teachers preferred doing online tasking to providing effective learning experience. Further, this condition led to low students’ motivation in learning English. In other words, the students might be in boredom to participate and engage in the teaching- learning process owing to the monotonous learning. Most students were said to be late or even reluctant to complete the assignments. Therefore, the researcher conducted the Classroom Action Research dealing with the use of Google meet to improve the students’ motivation in learning English during the online learning. The research subject was the 7th grade students of SMP Negeri Satu Atap Jarit. The research was conducted in two cycles. In cycle I, it showed that there was an increase of students’ motivation in learning English. The increase of students’ motivation was 61, 8%. Meanwhile, in cycle II, the researcher found that the Google meet significantly improved the students’ motivation in learning English. The increase of students’ motivation was 79, 4%. The result showed that the students actively participate and engage in the teaching-learning process. The students were very enthusiastic to respond and answer the some questions, and share their ideas related to the topic of the meeting. In addition, the increase of students’ motivation influence the students to compose sentences correctly related to the given assignments. Based on the result of data analysis, the researcher drew a conclusion that the use of Google meet significantly improved the students’ motivation in learning English during the online learning. Keywords: Google meet, Learning English, Students’ Motivation

The objective of this research is to describe how the teacher integrates technologies in blended learning and to analyze students’ perception and challenges in blended learning. The research was conducted in a private senior high school in Bandung and used a qualitative descriptive method. The data were collected through interview and questionnaire. The findings show that the teacher had already integrated technologies to run the process of teaching and learning in the new normal era as a replacement of a face to face learning due to Covid-19 pandemic. In the blended learning, the teacher integrated the variety of technologies in teaching-learning activities, namely zoom meeting and WhatsApp group chatting for the synchronous learning and she utilized google classroom, screencast o matic screen recorder, viva video editor, YouTube, and Quizizz the synchronous learning. The students perceived  blended learning positively and determined that it is it is one of the effective ways of teaching. The biggest challenge overcome by the teacher is more time needed to learn and adapt to this new situation where they must employ technology in our educational culture. For the students, the stability of internet connection also becomes major obstacle in blended learning. Apart from that, blended learning can be an option applied in the learning process in the current pandemic era.

Palabras clave: Entorno virtual de aprendizaje, Inglés, Proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje, TIC   ABSTRACT   The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has highlighted since 1948 the importance of learning a second language because of its professional, social, cultural, academic, and even personal potentials. Understanding that it moves towards a technological society, the processes of teaching and learning break the traditional schemes and incorporate new virtual learning environments that allow the implementation of technologies. By learning a foreign language, it tends to “pass” in somehow the knowledge about the structures and features of the mother tongue into the foreign language. This influence of the mother tongue on the foreign language is called “transfer” which often impedes production in the second language. The purpose of this research is to create a virtual learning environment in the English modules using Moodle for 114 UNEMI students of Health and Engineering Sciences, who are considered part of the generation “Y” through a single, factual and intrinsic case study, with a descriptive, heuristic and inductive level. The results of this research determined that the use of ICT tools when learning a second language presents greater opportunities for the teacher and students because they both can be separated with respect to the synchrony and this is not an obstacle, so learning is conducted with success; this support tool helps the acquired knowledge to become perfect with practice.   Key words: Virtual Learning Environment, English, teaching-learning process, ICT   Recibido: febrero de 2015Aprobado: abril de 2015
