Greenfield FDI Determinants in the MENA Region

The purpose of the chapter is twofold. Firstly, the authors intend to identify the main determinants of Greenfield FDI in a context of political and economic changes by choosing inflation, trade freedom, and investment freedom as macroeconomic variables and political instability as an institutional variable. Secondly, they determine which environmental sector may affect this mode of foreign investment in MENA region. Using dynamic panel models on a sample of 13 countries over the period 2010-2018, they perform econometric modeling to measure the relationship between Greenfield FDI, macroeconomic aggregates, and the relationship between FDI and the environmental sector. They find that trade openness stimulates foreign investment in MENA region and that the lack of inflation control may disrupt the inflow of Greenfield FDI since it reflects the economic stability of the host countries. Furthermore, there is a positive relationship between Greenfield FDI and environmental sectors. The chapter suggests some relevant practical implications to improve the attractiveness of Greenfield FDI in the MENA region.

Foreign direct investment (FDI) is often seen as an important catalyst for economicgrowth in the developing countries. It affects the economic growth by stimulating domestic investment, increasing human capital formation and by facilitating the technology transfer in the host countries. The main purpose of this paper is to investigate the impact of FDI determinants on FDI inflows in India from the period 1991-2009.The relationship between FDI inflow and its determinants have been analyzed by using the regression analysis and other variables that affect FDI inflows in India such as Developmental expenditure ratio, fiscal deficit ratio, exchange rate and other economic determinant such as GDP as the possible explanatory variables of foreign direct investment inflows in India. The expected results of the study are positive and statistically significant. Regarding the impact of various determinants on FDI in flows empirically, it has beenfound that all the variables except exchange rate have positively and significantly affecting FDI inflows i.e. increase in GDP, Developmental expenditure, foreign exchange reserves, increased the FDI inflows.

<?page nr="1"?>Abstract This article investigates the ways in which service-learning manifests within our neoliberal clime, suggesting that service-learning amounts to a foil for neoliberalism, allowing neoliberal political and economic changes while masking their damaging effects. Neoliberalism shifts the relationship between the public and the private, structures higher education, and promotes a façade of community-based university partnerships while facilitating a pervasive regime of control. This article demonstrates that service-learning amounts to an enigma of neoliberalism, making possible the privatization of the public and the individualizing of social problems while masking evidence of market-based societal control. Neoliberal service-learning distances service from teaching and learning, allows market forces to shape university-community partnerships, and privatizes the public through dispossession by accumulation.

Many studies have found that FDI can reduce the pollutant emissions of host countries. At the same time, the intensity of environmental regulation would affect the emission reduction effect of FDI in the host country. This study aims to reveal the internal mechanisms of this effect. Specifically, this paper studies the impact of FDI on technological innovation in China’s industrial sectors from the perspective of technology transactions from 2001 to 2019, and then analyzes whether the intensity of environmental regulation can promote the relationship. Results indicate that FDI promotes technological innovation through technology transactions. In addition, it finds that the intensity of environmental regulation significantly positively moderates the relationship between FDI and technological innovation, which is achieved by positively moderating the FDI–technology transaction relationship. Regional heterogeneity analysis is further conducted, and results show that in the eastern and western regions of China, FDI can stimulate technological innovation within regional industrial sectors through technology trading. Moreover, environmental regulation has a significant positive regulatory effect on the above relationship, but these effects are not supported by evidence in the central region of China.

AbstractWe study the role of the strength of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) law protection and enforcement in influencing horizontal productivity spillovers from inward FDI to domestic firms in host countries. While most WTO countries adopted strong IPR legislation due to exogenous pressure resulting from the signing of the Trade-Related Aspects of IPR (TRIPS) agreement, public IPR enforcement strength continues to vary significantly between countries. We meta-analyse 49 studies and find that public IPR enforcement strength has a direct positive effect on horizontal productivity spillovers from inward FDI to domestic firms and a negative moderating effect on the relationship between IPR law protection strength and horizontal productivity spillovers from inward FDI to domestic firms.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between profitability of the Lithuanian banking sector and its internal and external determinants. We use the panel error correc­tion model to assess long-term and short-term determinants of items from bank income statements (net interest income, net fee and commission income and operating expenses). The results of the pooled mean group estimator show that bank size and real GDP are the main determinants in the long-term. Meanwhile, empirical examination suggests various variables as short-term determinants of income statement items. The pooled mean group estimation technique and the analysis of sepa­rate income statement items enable us to have a better insight into the Lithuanian banking sector and determinants of its revenue and expenses.

Background: Women are more vulnerable to mental health problems than men after migration, but little is known about the influence of religiosity/spirituality on their quality of life. The purpose of this study was to explore religiosity/spirituality, in relationships with various domains of quality of life, among female Eritrean refugees staying in Norwegian asylum centres. Method: A questionnaire assessing sociodemographic characteristics was used together with the World Health OrganizationQuality of Life – Spirituality, Religiosity and Personal Beliefs (WHOQOL-SRPB) questionnaire, which assesses religiosity/spirituality and domains of quality of life. A total of 63 adult female Eritrean refugees who had been granted asylum but were still living in asylum reception centres located in southern and central Norway participated. Results: Religiosity/spirituality was independently associated with psychological quality of life ( B = 0.367, p < .001), level of independence ( B = 0.184, p = .028), social quality of life ( B = 0.500, p = .003), environmental quality of life ( B = 0.323, p < .001) and overall quality of life ( B = 0.213, p < .001), but not with physical quality of life ( B = 0.056, p = .679). There were no significant differences between religious affiliations on religiosity/spirituality or quality of life measures. Conclusion: Consistent with previous research, this study highlights the correlation between religiosity/spirituality and overall quality of life. We recommend a longitudinal follow-up study of similar populations, after they are resettled and integrated into their host countries, to understand the associations between quality of life and religiosity/spirituality over time.

This study examines the relationship between trade openness and unemployment rate in Nigeria from 1980 to 2018. The study utilized the auto-regressive distributed lag (ARDL) technique and the result of the study shows that trade openness had negative and significant impact on unemployment rate in Nigeria. The implication of this result is that trade openness provides employment opportunities, which reduces the unemployment rate in Nigeria. Thus, the study concludes that trade openness is a significant determinant of unemployment in Nigeria. The study recommends the need for conscious economic policies that would promote foreign private investment, capable of enhancing aggregate volume of investment in the country and contribute to employment generation in the Nigeria. Finally, government needs to explore new marketing areas for foreign investors which would also contribute to employment generation.

The aim of this research is to identify the main determinants of Kosovo outbound tourists influencing the use of e-services in the hospitality industry. To test hypotheses, we used Partial Least Squares Path Modeling (PLS-PM). Findings suggest that the intention of Kosovo outbound tourists to use e-services in the hospitality industry is influenced positively by performance expectancy, facilitating conditions, perceived value, and satisfaction with information quality. We found that expected effort and social influence have no impact on the intention to use e-services. The relationship between users’ behavioral intentions and satisfaction with the information provided and real use behavior is confirmed. The perceived value depends on cost-savings, enjoyment and convenience from the use of e-services in hospitality.

The purpose of the article is to define and substantiate the main determinants and features of innovative marketing implementation in agribusiness. The results of activities, measured by profit, are influenced by the innovative marketing of the enterprise. Innovative marketing allows the company to offer cheaper and better quality products. The determinants of innovative marketing in agribusiness are compared. The study showed that there are differences in the determinants of innovative marketing between agribusiness and other sectors of the economy. In addition, there are differences in organizational, process and innovation in the field of agribusiness. The results indicate the need for further study of innovative marketing and its relationship with other innovations, taking into account different sectors of the economy and territories. Business strategies and government programs that promote innovation must take into account the differences between types of innovation. Innovations as a subject of marketing theory are analyzed; special emphasis is placed on agribusiness. The organization of marketing is crucial for successful marketing. A special organizational characteristic of the sale of agricultural products and food products is that marketing often covers the entire chain of agricultural production from producer to final consumer. This article deals with the introduction of innovative marketing in agribusiness. She pays special attention to the organization of innovative marketing in agricultural enterprises. The organization of marketing in agricultural enterprises is very specific due to the relationship between production and natural factors. Although this article was written on a conceptual level, it provides a realistic picture of the actual trends that emerge in the organization of innovative marketing in agribusiness. The article considers some general characteristics, presents the organization of marketing and the factors influencing innovations in agribusiness. Important changes that have taken place in agricultural markets and the resulting market strategies are also discussed in the article.
