This chapter explores the potential of work-oriented social media (WOSM) platforms for generating innovative ideas. A case study of a single WOSM platform, focused on innovation, is analysed from the perspective of features influencing adoption. The features are examined using the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) framework. Primary research was conducted through a study on the use of a WOSM platform called Brightidea to promote crowdsourced innovation. The work included investigation of features that influenced adoption and usage of the platform. Additionally, the potential for domain-crossing innovation was explored through data analysis of ideas on the platform. The study was built on data collected from a survey of employees of Kerpoc (a pseudonym), a large company in the oil and gas (O&G) sector, and interviews with Kerpoc staff. The chapter concludes that although the business value of the platform may have been below expectations, its social media-like features were positively viewed by users and facilitated discipline crossing.

ABC Telco as the largest state owned telecommunication company in Indonesia with 16,097 employees had introduced online collaboration application to support company’s operational activities in the end of 2014. Olive is targeted to change the way of work of every employee to become more effective and efficient. Either of the number of employees who has registered or employees who have been actively using the application is still small, amounting to 12% of the total employees. In order to increase the adoption of Olive, finding factors that affect the behavior intention of ABC employee toward online collaboration applications (Olive) is needed. Based on Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 [1], this study proposes a new modified model toward Olive. The measurement tool which consists of 8 constructs and 39 items proposed in this study is valid and reliable. Therefore, this proposed measurement material is ready to be used in further study.

ABSTRAKPenelitian dengan pendekatan model Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model dilakukan untuk mengkaji adopsi teknologi dan perilaku penggunaan aplikasi IPB Mobile khususnya IPB Mobile for Students. ABSTRACTResearch with the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model approach was conducted to examine technology adoption and behavior in using IPB Mobile applications, especially IPB Mobile for Students. The research sample was selected using a purposive sampling method, as many as 400 undergraduate students. Research data in the form of primary data collected through the distribution of questionnaires. Data analysis was carried out using structural equation modeling partial least squares (SEM-PLS). The results of data analysis show that respondents' perceptions of the indicators of the UTAUT model show a good assessment. Effort expectancy has a positive effect on behavioral intention variables. The variable use behavior of students is directly influenced by facilitating conditions and behavioral intention. The managerial implications of the results of this study should be used as a basis for improving the IPB Mobile for Student application so that it can improve services for students, both academic and non-academic, including the provision of adequate wifi facilities in various areas that are often used for student teaching and learning activities. in order to increase access to applications and improve existing features so that they are friendly to use by students.

Background: As the use of mobile computing devices such as smartphones increase in developing countries, some employees in organisations prefer using their privately owned mobile devices for work purposes by following the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) practice. However, the actual factors that influence the adoption of this practice are limited.Aim: This study aimed to investigate the factors that positively influence the employee’s behavioural intention to adopt the BYOD practice in organisations.Setting: The focus of the study is workers in various industries in South Africa.Method: A model is proposed which extends components of the Unified Theory of Acceptance and the Use of Technology (UTAUT) model by certain elements of the ISO/IEC 27001 security standard and an organisational factor. It is a quantitative study. Through a snowball method, a sample of 130 South African workers participated in the study by completing an electronic survey where 106 valid responses were received. Results: The data analysis was conducted through the SPSS data analysis tool. The results revealed that performance expectancy, effort expectancy, awareness and training, and policy existence positively influence the behavioural intention to adopt the BYOD Practice. Conclusion: The outcome of this study will benefit practitioners considering the implementation of BYOD and also researchers seeking to expand the scope of existing technology adoption frameworks.

Computational social media data analysis (SMDA) is opening up new possibilities for participatory urban planning. The aim of this study is to analyse what kind of computational methods can be used to analyse social media data to inform urban planning. A descriptive literature review of recent case study articles reveal that in this context SMDA has been applied mainly to location based social media data, such as geo-tagged Tweets, photographs and check-in data. There were only a few studies concerning the use of non-place-based data. Based on this review SMDA can provide planners with local knowledge about people's opinions, experiences, feelings, behaviour, and about the city structure. However, integration of this knowledge in planning and decision-making has not been completely successful in any of the cases. By way of a conclusion, a planning-led categorization of the SMDA method's tools and analysis results is suggested.
