Popplet in Education

Aristotle once said, “The soul never thinks without a mental image.” From the author's experience as an ESL program director, ESL instructor, technology coach, and teacher educator, this saying is absolutely true. This chapter reviews an innovative web-based platform and a technology-based approach to teaching called Popplet that can be found at www.popplet.com. Popplet is a mind mapping application and a graphic organizer that allows teachers and students to create visually pleasing graphic organizers that integrate different features such as colors, texts, images, videos, and links to organize and present information. In addition to its use to enhance students' brainstorming, presentation, and discussion techniques, Popplet can also support the students' 21st century skills such as problem solving, critical thinking, and collaboration. This chapter will highlight some of Popplet's important features for teachers who would consider implementing it in their teaching pedagogy in the future.

<p>In this globalization era the role of science and technology covers various aspects of life, especially the world of Education. Education is an aspect of supporting the success of a nation. Hinduism Education is a subject that instills Hinduism. In learning Hinduism Education learning media becomes the main  support of the learning process. Learning  media as a channel for information and messages in learning. Information technology-based learning media is a demand in facing the challenges of 21st century Education. 21st century education has four skills in learning communication (Communication), Collaboration (Collaboration), Critical Thingking and Problem Solving (Critical Thinking and problem solving) and Creativity and Innovation (Creativity and Innovation). With the guidance of the age development, the use of IT-based learning  media  in  learning  Hinduism Education  will  facilitate the transfer  of knowledge  in learning. The benefit of using IT-based learning media is to facilitate the interaction between teachers and students so that learning activities become effective and efficient The use of Information Technology-based learning media such as the internet, mobile phones, flash disks, etc. facilitates the transfer of knowledge in learning.</p>

The teaching procedures that are commonly used with language-disordered children do not entirely match the goals that they are intended to achieve. By using a problem-solving approach to teaching language rules, the procedures and goals of language teaching become more harmonious. Such procedures allow a child to create a rule to solve a simple language problem created for the child by a clinician who understands the conditions that control the operation of a rule.

The purpose of this study is to expand the knowledge base on factors likely to impede implementation and adoption of web-based learning management systems to blend with traditional methods of lecturing in universities to cater for the next generation of learners in Africa and Eastern Cape Province South Africa in particular. The shift from the industrial economies to 21st century digital and knowledge-based economies, fueled by rapid Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) such as Internet, YouTube, Chartrooms, Skype, Social media networks and its introduction to the educational system not only resulted in a new teaching approach globally but also paved way to usher in new generation of learners (anytime, anywhere learners) in the higher education system. Despite the fact that universities and other institutions of higher education in developed countries and some Africa countries have since recognized that the 21st century global digital and knowledge-based economies evolution has ushered in the next generation of learners, and as a result have taken the necessary steps to blend the traditional method of lecturing in higher education with web-based learning management systems in order to accommodate these learners. However, in Africa not much research have been done on the readiness of higher education institutions in terms of blending web-based learning management systems with the traditional method of lecturing to cater for the next generation of learners. Quantitative and two non-probability sampling methods, namely, quota and purposive sampling was used to investigate the technological skills of selected lecturers from universities within Buffalo City Metropolitan as one of the core component to check the readiness of their faculty for the next generation of learners. We are living in the world of 21st century which is known as the world of ‘Mental Stress’ in these circumstances, knowledge amplifies day by day. There is a knowledge explosion in the world, hence each and every person tries to get this knowledge by new andmost recent mediasand they also use it. In this direction there is a qualitative growing up in the person for in receipt of knowledge and its use by appreciative. In the same way, we notice the qualitative addition in the educational organization, teachers and students, which are going to get knowledge. In these circumstances teachers and students feel a perplexity. Learner or student of today is not only physically unhealthy but also mentally or emotionally. So it becomes duty or responsibility of a teacher to incorporate such practices in his classroom so that stress, tension, anxiety, frustration etc. of their students reduces which ultimately affect upon their academic as well as socio-psychological performance. The present paper throws light on benefits of yoga into classroom, studies conducted on the same, challenges before a teacher.

Solving problem is not only a goal of mathematical learning. Students acquire ways of thinking, habits of persistence and curiosity, and confidence in unfamiliar situations by learning to solve problems. In fact, there were students who had difficulty in solving problems. The students were naive problem solvers. This research aimed to describe the thinking process of naive problem solvers based on heuristic of Polya. The researcher gave two problems to students at grade XI from one of high schools in Palangka Raya, Indonesia. The research subjects were two students with problem solving scores of 0 or 1 for both problems (naive problem solvers). The score was determined by using a holistic rubric with maximum score of 4. Each subject was interviewed by the researcher separately based on the subject’s solution. The results showed that the naive problem solvers read the problems for several times in order to understand them. The naive problem solvers could determine the known and the unknown if they were written in the problems. However, they faced difficulties when the information in the problems should be processed in their mindsto construct a mental image. The naive problem solvers were also failed to make an appropriate plan because they did not have a problem solving schema. The schema was constructed by the understanding of the problems, conceptual and procedural knowledge of the relevant concepts, knowledge of problem solving strategies, and previous experiences in solving isomorphic problems.

The convergence of computing, communications, and traditional educational technologies enables us to discuss, plan, create, and implement fundamentally unique strategies for providing access to people and information. The scientific process is used as an approach to teaching-learning through discovery. Over the last several years, SUNY Plattsburgh, like many universities across the world, has created a technology environment on campus which provides ubiquitous access to both on- and off-campus information resources for faculty and students. The article describes the development of a teaching-learning module in biology which makes creative use of the Internet and other communications and computing media. This example is placed in the context of strategies which must be employed—both locally and globally—in order to realize the authors' vision of the 21st century classroom-scholarship environment.
