Purpose After over 30 years’ reform and opening-up, China as the second largest economy is now facing the most essential transformation of management philosophy and the biggest challenging issue of business sustainable development, with people’s increasing worry of the deterioration of environmental pollution, food security and human health. It can be said that what China needs urgently today is business ethical value and long-term sustainable development concept, rather than rapidly growing GDP. The purpose of this paper is to assess how the term “sustainable development” is constructed and valued in the sustainability reports or corporate social responsibility (CSR) reports of Chinese corporations, so as to interpret these Chinese firms’ conception of sustainable development in their real business practices. Design/methodology/approach A corpus of sustainability reports collected from 30 Chinese corporations totaling 247,311 tokens is first of all compiled to realize the objective of study. Then the authors use the AntConc, a corpus analysis toolkit, to generate word lists, key-word-in-context concordances and collocation lists, as well as calculating statistical significance measures for collocates, of which the mutual information (MI) score 3 is most relevant to the paper’s purposes. Based on the key-word-in-context concordance and collocation list, the authors can find what context “sustainable development” usually appears in sustainability reports, thus inferring Chinese corporations’ conception of sustainable development. Findings The result indicates that Chinese corporations use the rhetoric of weak sustainability, indicating that sustainable development is compatible with further economic growth, which means that Chinese corporations in current China, strongly promoting the concept of new normal economy, still put economic growth as a dominant goal, on which other dimensions of sustainability like environmental protection depend. Research limitations/implications The data gleaned in current corpus are limited to the sustainability reports in 2014 thus the study provides no hints as to diachronic trends. However, this study increases our understanding of how Chinese corporations attach value to sustainable development from the view of corpus analysis. Originality/value Different from traditional discourse analysis, which usually carries out qualitative analysis to analyze how a word or phrase is constructed in a small number of texts, the authors’ study innovatively introduces the method of corpus analysis to explore how Chinese corporations construct “sustainable development” in their sustainability reports. Thus, the number of texts analyzed is larger in the authors’ study and their findings are more representative and convincing. The authors create a more qualitative understanding of what the reports are actually saying on their reports and prove that corpus methods can bring new application to the discourse analysis of the biggest challenging issue of China’s future economic growth, suggesting a potential novel way to work out the meaning and implication of sustainable development in Chinese real business world.

In addition to analyzing data on which students are moving and how often, educators can learn about the circumstances, needs, and experiences of new families and students by asking them directly. Online customer satisfaction surveys are becoming more common in school districts. District and school leaders are asking parents and students to rate their performance in a variety of areas, from their communication practices to the classroom environment. A 2013 report from Hanover Research suggests that these surveys coincide with the increasing level of competition in education spurred by the growing number of charter school options, magnet schools, and open enrollment policies in many districts. “As school attendance in charter and magnet settings is not determined by geographic boundaries, such schools must make efforts to satisfy parent and student ‘customers’ to ensure robust enrollments,” the report says. These surveys also show evidence of the influence that the business world has had on the education field. Business practices that can help schools improve the way they welcome new families will be discussed in Chapter 8, but it’s clear that schools are thinking more about how they serve students and their parents. While the use of surveys is growing, it’s far less common for districts to ask for feedback specifically about their enrollment procedures or how the schools handle the issue of transition in general. As part of the Welcoming Practices initiative, the Consortium districts surveyed parents to gather input on topics such as the registration process, the responsiveness of the staff, and the interest shown in meeting students’ individual needs. More than 1,400 parent responses were received, representing 2,300 children. On a 5-point scale, the parents indicated their level of agreement with statements such as: The school made my child feel like he/she was part of the school community. The school helped my child connect with other students. The school helped me connect to other families. The school helped connect me to services and resources in the community. The parents responded that, overall, they and their children felt welcomed by the school, giving ratings above a 4.

<p>Business ethics are moral principles and doctrines that determine behavior in the business world. Although the purpose of every business is to earn profits, it also ought to pay a major role in society by ensuring fair practices. Instead of fairness and equality, greed has taken over the present business scenario leading to unethical business practices. World Bank and International Monetary Fund have been criticized for harsh imposition of austerity measures on member borrower countries. IMF programs are connected with adverse social action like reduced investment in public health and education in the recipient countries resulting in ethical violation and lack of corporate social responsibility to the communities served. A number of World Bank financed projects have social and environmental effects for the people in the affected areas resulting in ethical issues criticism. The IMF and World Bank have also been criticized for violation of ethical issues of equity and fair play.</p>

AbstractThe “Seven Pillars” of oxidation catalysis proposed by Robert K. Grasselli represent an early example of phenomenological descriptors in the field of heterogeneous catalysis. Major advances in the theoretical description of catalytic reactions have been achieved in recent years and new catalysts are predicted today by using computational methods. To tackle the immense complexity of high-performance systems in reactions where selectivity is a major issue, analysis of scientific data by artificial intelligence and data science provides new opportunities for achieving improved understanding. Modern data analytics require data of highest quality and sufficient diversity. Existing data, however, frequently do not comply with these constraints. Therefore, new concepts of data generation and management are needed. Herein we present a basic approach in defining best practice procedures of measuring consistent data sets in heterogeneous catalysis using “handbooks”. Selective oxidation of short-chain alkanes over mixed metal oxide catalysts was selected as an example.

Online marketing communication covers a wide area and thus promotes an extensive reach of advertising to a broad audience. Hotels can achieve certain goals through online communication, mainly an increase of hotel awareness; an improvement of their image; and an increase in the level of customer satisfaction and trust, or brand loyalty. Measurement of the effectiveness of communication tools in the online environment is still a challenge, whether in the academic world or in the business world, mainly due to the complexity of this process. The main objective of this paper is to propose a methodology for implementing an indicator suitable for the evaluation of the effectiveness of online communication activities in the Slovak hotel industry. It uses analysis of the current usage of online marketing communication activities from the perspective of hotel service providers. The methodology should be applicable to support decision-making and actively support the sustainable development of hotels. In order to achieve the objective of the paper, the authors conducted a marketing survey focused on online marketing communication by Slovakian hotels to determine their use and to map the current state or methods of evaluating their effectiveness. Results of the research suggest that hotels in Slovakia perceive evaluating marketing communications online as being important, regardless of the size, length of operation, budget, and class of the hotel. They prefer financial metrics because they are a de facto manifestation of the traditional approach towards investment evaluation. The results also showed that return on investment is the most common metric for evaluating the investments of online communication activities, and that respondents expressed the highest level of confidence in this metric as well. In line with the results, we have proposed return on investment (ROI) as the most appropriate metric applicable in evaluation of the effectiveness of online communication tools.

ABSTRACT The availability of scientific assets through data repositories has been greatly increased as a result of government and institutional data sharing policies and mandates for publicly funded research, allowing data to be reused for purposes not always anticipated by primary researchers. Despite the fact that the argument favoring data sharing is strongly grounded in the possibilities of data reuse and its contributions to scientific advancement, this subject remains unobserved in discussions about data science and open science. This paper follows a narrative review method to take a closer look at data reuse in order to better conceptualize this term, while proposing an early classification of five distinct data reuse approaches (repurposing, aggregation, integration, meta-analysis and reanalysis) based on hypothetical cases and literature examples. It also explores the determinants of what constitutes reusable data, and the relationship between data reusability and documentation quality. It presents some challenges associated with data documentation and points out some initiatives and recommendations to overcome such problems. It expects to contribute not only for the conceptual advancement around the reusability and effective reuse of the data, but also to result in initiatives related to data documentation in order to increase the reuse potential of these scientific assets. Keywords:Data Reuse; Scientific Reproducibility; Reusability; Open Science; Research Data.

In the era of information technology, the two developing sides are data science and artificial intelligence. In terms of scientific data, one of the tasks is the extraction of social networks from information sources that have the nature of big data. Meanwhile, in terms of artificial intelligence, the presence of contradictory methods has an impact on knowledge. This article describes an unsupervised as a stream of methods for extracting social networks from information sources. There are a variety of possible approaches and strategies to superficial methods as a starting concept. Each method has its advantages, but in general, it contributes to the integration of each other, namely simplifying, enriching, and emphasizing the results.

Modern day marketing had gone through lots of changes and disruptions. Some of the changes are created lots of positive impact on conventional business model. The usual revenue generation model has been gone through lots of forward and backward integration. Marketers started adapting those changes positively and they are trying their best to respond to those changes. Change has become the only constant of the marketplace. In business world, it has observed that most of the advertisers are trying to employ affiliate network to track their various affiliate campaign. Measurement of affiliate campaign is important to strengthen the revenue generation model and would help to monitor other business related activities. Monitoring of E-commerce platform will become practically impossible without the inclusion of affiliate network. At the same time digital marketers cannot ignore the role of advertisers to track various affiliate campaign as well. The role of network is to offer specific tracing link to various affiliates so that they can link the text with affiliate’s website which could be effectively beneficial for the customer at the same time. Since the time of consumer 2.0, the roles of affiliates are redefined and they are helping customers’ click on the websites. It depends on the number of times customers’ click on cookie when its dropped on their computer and it is registered by the affiliate network. So, whenever the whole process would be completed from customer end, a confirmation reached at advertiser’s page and the tracking of affiliate’s network can be completed. Affiliate network plays a crucial role to find the sales recorded in their platform. Affiliate’s network is responsible for recording and publishing such data. With the help of a common platform advertiser and affiliates both able to find the sales process and tracking could be done effectively. At the same time, commission will also be tracked during the procedure. Commission structure can be traced well. The performance of the campaign can be evaluated with the help of Price tag, order ID, information about sales, promotion code and product stock keeping units (SKUs). Despite of lots of measures taken in advance still there are different types of complications and various options to improve the overall tracking model. The research paper is basically focusing on the online or e-marketing and the role of Affiliate marketing. As affiliates play a major role in online marketing platform, it is explained in different contexts as well. One thing is quite evident by analyzing the modern marketing platform that the e-channel would be the next trendsetting thing in the field of marketing.
