It is possible to socialize individuals who cannot come together due to pandemics, extraordinary events, and economic difficulties and increase their commitment to life with these video games. Social work should take advantage of this developing field. eSports can provide benefits in geriatrics, home care services, physical therapy, elderly people in nursing homes, women, children, people with an autistic spectrum disorder, and social adaptation. Social work's functions in many areas such as environmental and social adaptation, well-being, welfare, public health, social policy, and the rehabilitation of children prone to crime can be made more functional through eSports. This chapter deals with the functions of social work to be developed and improved with eSports.

Health is an essential component of economic development and there is a strong correlation between health of human population and societal well-being. We cannot just think of the development of the human capital without the development of health and education of the people. However, it is found that although India has made large gains on the health front of its population, there exist wide variations between and within states. While states such as Kerala, Punjab and Tamil Nadu have a very developed health sector and the health indicators of these states are comparable to those of developed middle-income countries, states such as Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, etc., are almost at the level of Sub-Saharan Africa. By using a few of the key health indicators the present article makes a critical analysis of the health status of people in the 17 major states of India, the ongoing health development programmes and the present state of public health care services in different parts of the country. The article further delves into an arena of specific policy intervention measures that are required to be undertaken in order to increase the health status of people.

ABSTRACT Objective: to investigate the care provided by family female caregivers of elderly dependents who have been monitored by public home care and its social repercussions, discussing the facets between State, society and families. Method: descriptive cross-sectional study, with 45 caregivers of elderly patients accompanied by Home Care Services. Data were collected by means of a structured script. The discussion was elaborated in light of the works "Cuidado e cuidadoras: as várias faces do trabalho do 'care'" (Care and female caregivers: the several faces of the care work) and "Gênero e trabalho na França e no Brasil" (Gender and work in France and Brazil). Results: Most caregivers were women (95%) who performed home care at several places and incorporated hospital equipment into everyday life. They have been caregivers for four and a half years, working 18 hours a day on average; they presented average age of 55 years; 82% were ill, and 43% had no income. Conclusion: the study demonstrated the relevance of the care of female caregivers to society as well as their invisibility to public health and social policies.

Social, economic and health care needs of elderly black persons in Port Elizabeth and areas in its immediate vicinity are investigated. Conclusions are drawn from a sample study of 301 elderly people. The investigation reveals that the majority of pensioners are -women, their educational standard is below standard 10, and they have little vocational or specialized training. A high proportion (86%) of them are breadwinners and therefore they are unwilling to reside in institutions. Recreational facilities are inadequate. Pension payout points are overcrowded and disorganized. Also health care services are inaccessible to most elderly people. In view of these findings, a community-based approach to care for the elderly is recommended. The approach should promote social interaction among elderly through establishment of luncheon clubs and service centres and well-being of all elderly through geriatric clinics as well as home care services for the infirm. This entails an intersectorial collaboration, with the elderly being fully involved and participating. Considering the exponential growth of the elderly population in South Africa, it is imperative that the government and other organizations should take cognizance of studies of this nature when making future decisions as regards the care of this group.

Abstract Background The lockdown imposed in the UK on the 23rd of March and associated public health measures of social distancing are likely to have had a great impact on care provision. The aim of this study was to explore the decision-making processes of continued paid home care support for dementia in the time of COVID-19. Methods Unpaid carers caring for a person living with dementia (PLWD) who were accessing paid home care before COVID-19 and residing in the UK were eligible to take part. Participants were interviewed over the phone and asked about their experiences of using paid home care services before and since COVID-19, and their decision-making processes of accessing paid home care since the outbreak and public health restrictions. Results Fifteen unpaid carers, who were also accessing paid care support for the PLWD before COVID-19, were included in the analysis. Thematic analysis identified three overarching themes: (1) Risk; (2) Making difficult choices and risk management; and (3) Implications for unpaid carers. Many unpaid carers decided to discontinue paid carers entering the home due to the risk of infection, resulting in unpaid carers having to pick up the care hours to support the person living with dementia. Conclusions This is the first study to report on the impact of COVID-19 on paid home care changes in dementia. Findings raise implications for providing better Personal Protective Equipment for paid carers, and to support unpaid carers better in their roles, with the pandemic likely to stay in place for the foreseeable future.

Caregiving burden has been shown to predict use of home care services among Anglo Americans. In a previous study, only one of two dimensions of caregiving burden predicted such use among Mexican American caregivers. Because acculturation and familism may affect burden, we conducted analyses to test three hypotheses: increased acculturation decreases familism; decreased familism increases burden; and increased burden increases use of home care services. Among 140 Mexican American family caregivers, acculturation was positively correlated with familism; familism was not significantly correlated with burden; objective burden was positively correlated with use of home care services, and objective and subjective burden significantly interacted in their effect on the use of home care services. Targeted interventions may be needed to increase use of home care services and preserve the well-being of Mexican American elders and caregivers.

Social work is perhaps most distinctive for its clear and outspoken commitment toward improving the well-being of society’s vulnerable and disadvantaged groups, while still emphasizing the importance of respecting and defending personal rights and freedoms. Though there is a fundamental necessity for coercion, or its threat, for eliciting civil social behavior in a well-functioning society, it is professionally and ethically imperative that social workers make explicit our rationales for, justifications of, and the evidence used to support or reject coercive practices in our work. Social work’s engagement with coercion inevitably entails the ethical and social policy arguments for and against its use, as shown in a review of the empirical evidence regarding its impact on the professions’ clients, exemplified by three domains: (1) child welfare, (2) mental health, and (3) addictions. Recommendations for future improvements involve balancing the potential for harm against the benefits of coercive actions.

In an era of global environmental deterioration and income inequity, public health faces many challenges, including the growing number of individuals, especially older people, with chronic diseases. Dementia is increasingly being seen not just as a biomedical problem to solve but as a public and community challenge to address more broadly. Concepts like prevention, brain health, and quality of life/well-being are receiving more attention. The engagement of community in addressing these challenges is being seen as critical to successful social adaptation. Arts programs are reinvigorating cultural responses to the growing number of older people with cognitive challenges. The humanities offer ways of understanding the power of words and stories in public discourse and a critical lens though which to view political and economic influences. In this paper, we report on a panel held in London on the occasion of the conference at the Royal Society for Public Health in March, 2017, in which the authors presented. Key issues discussed included problem framing, the nature of evidence, the politics of power and influence, and the development of effective interventions. In this paper, we review the rejection of two policies, one on dementia and one on the arts and humanities in public health, by the American Public Health Association; the emergence of policies in the UK; and some of the state of the art practices, particularly in training, again focusing on the UK.

Home care services at midnight many residents complained and there is no distribution of home care officers at the Bara-Baraya Public Health Center in Makassar. The focus of research in this study is the evaluation of the implementation of home care programs at the Bara-Baraya Public Health Center in Makassar City. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of home care programs at the Makassar City of Bara Baraya Health Center. The approach used in this study is a qualitative approach that describes and observes deeply the evaluation of the implementation of home care programs at the Makassar City of Bara Baraya Health Center. This research also uses applied research design. The data source in this study was taken from four home care officers at the Bara-Baraya Public Health Center in Makassar City and four people who use home care services. The results showed that the input sub-variables can be quite good. Medical devices such as thermometers, tensimeters, and stethoscopes function properly and are suitable for use in home care health services. Then operational funds such as staff salaries are paid according to the number of visits to the community. The doctor for Rp. 100,000 / visit and nurses 75,000 / visit. But in the aspect of home care officers is still inadequate. Home care workers have a dual role between serving the community at the puskesmas, as well as serving the community at the residence. In the process sub-variables, it can be quite good. In the call center aspect, people can easily call the call center because this service is toll free. Home visits and observations have been carried out carefully. But the division of duties of home care officers is not optimal. In the output sub-variable, it can be said to be good because the public can directly benefit from home care services.
