Immigration is a highly politicised and emotive area of public discourse. During the peak of the so-called ‘Refugee Crisis' in Europe, a number of EU politicians and mass media outlets manipulated the abstract idea of ‘the migrant' as a scapegoat for a number of social ills including rising crime, unemployment and national security. Yet, during these years, some news organisations did seek to counter the dominant negative narratives around migration by exploring new modes of storytelling around interactive and immersive digital environments. This study examines four such media projects, all developed between 2014 and 2016. Their interactive narratives sought to break down popular discourses which portrayed migrants as “the other” by creating an emotional connection between media user and the experience of refugees themselves. For this research, journalists, editors, and producers were interviewed to determine the motivations of the content creators and the impact their storytelling techniques had on viewers.

This article examines the impact of Japan on U.S.-Soviet relations during Richard Nixon's first term as U.S. president. Drawing heavily on recently declassified documents pertaining to back-channel negotiations between Nixon's national security adviser, Henry Kissinger, and Soviet Ambassador Anatolii Dobrynin, the article explains why no Soviet-Japanese rapprochement proved feasible even during the height of East-West détente. The enduring hostility was in contrast to the realignments of the other major powers during this period.

What combination of forces elects a President? Each electoral decision releases a flood of interpretive comment about the conditions, circumstances, and causes which have influenced the result. A very great assortment of factors is examined and varying estimates are made of the responsibility of each for the outcome. Certainly, interpretations of the most recent presidential contest have shown the variety of ideas Americans bring to the analysis of their national elections. Mr. Eisenhower's victory has been attributed to the satisfactions engendered by national prosperity; to the anxieties raised by the threat of war; to the moods of racial, ethnic, or other groupings in the population; to the personal attractiveness of the winning candidate; to the conservative temper of the electorate; to the impact of various issues; to changing party loyalties; to the growth of suburbia; to the progress of an electoral cycle; to events and strategems of the nominating conventions and the campaign; to the influence of the press and of the other mass media. The list could be revised or lengthened in many ways.

Addresses've marked the international factor and its impact on the Kurdish issue in Iraq, 1958- 1991, the importance of having and the emergence of the issue on the Iraqi political arena this apparition Atzamn and effectively with the start of the formation of the Iraqi state on 23 August 1921 as a researcher and perhaps believed other massively multiplayer that the international factor, is the key factor and effective in feeding and the presence and persistence of the issue in Iraq, as well as the presence of some erroneous domestic policies practiced by some regimes and governments have to govern Iraq while dealing Tamla short-sighted with this issue, which formed another factor in the continuation of the impact of this issue negatively in Iraq as an endangered the national security of the Iraqi issues, but nevertheless we should not ignore the willingness of the Kurdish forces in northern Iraq, to deal with the outside world and open up to the international factor on the inside account of this deal, which had a negative impact is the other to move away from national solutions to this issue.      From this point of touch research and clearly, the impact and effective powers of any international factor and some neighboring countries in the permanence and continuity in that case Bmngsatha formed weigh heavily on the shoulders of the Iraqi state since Ceccheha and so far as it turns out, that all the solutions put forward by the previous Iraqi regimes to deal with the Kurdish issue, not unlucky complete success as clear that the reason lies, as well as lack of seriousness in the adoption of the standard of citizenship, equality and social justice in those solutions, is the weakness of the Iraqi foreign policy, which also failed to stop foreign intervention in this case, Thus, the new Iraqi regime after 2003, be aware of this fact, viz., that any attempt to resolve the Kurdish issue within the framework of the Iraqi state, without the attention of the international factor and how to deal with him, it would be doomed to failure.

The article is intended to analyze the legal aspects of the impact of educational migration on the national security of Ukraine. The legal basis of educational migration is considered, in particular, the consolidation of Ukraine's participation as a full participant in the European educational space in the regulatory framework and its impact on Ukraine's national security. The positive and negative consequences of educational migration and their impact on the national security of the country are analyzed. Comprehensive measures, including legal ones, in the field of education and migration policy of Ukraine have been identified. Academic mobility and cross-border education are identified as the main institutional forms of educational migration. Today, the national security of Ukraine requires the protection of the public interests of all segments of the population, including young students, which ensures the sustainable development of the country and society. The vast majority of migrants are young people - the most active part of the population, prone to self-development and adaptation in a multicultural environment. Ensuring constitutional human rights and freedoms, including their right to education, are objects of national security. It is proved that international integration and integration of the national higher education system into the European educational space is one of the main principles of state policy in education. Accordingly, there are academic mobility programs in the field of international cooperation. Migration policy is one of the priority areas of the country's development. Migration is a complex process that includes, in addition to legal, economic, socio-psychological, political and cultural interrelationships. The issue of modern migration processes and national security is always promising in terms of further research, especially given that the analysis of the migration situation in Ukraine shows that they are developing much more dynamically than the process of legal regulation in this area. In fact, it is about the complexity of effective legal regulation of migration processes in the country.

Commencing with some recent examples drawn from Anglophone media, this introductory article reflects on the multiple ways in which crisis and migration have been interconnected over the last decade in public discourse, political debates and academic research. It underlines how crisis has not simply become a key descriptor of specific events, but continues to operate as a powerful narrative device that structures knowledge of migration and shapes policy decisions and governance structures. It explains the rationale for choosing Europe as a multidimensional setting for investigating the diverse links between migration and crisis. It ends with a summary of the contributions that are divided into four thematic strands: relationships between the economic crisis and migrant workers and their families; the Mediterranean in crisis; political and public discourses about the post-2015 ‘migration crisis’; and ethnographies of everyday experiences of the ‘refugee crisis’ on the part of migrants, activists and local people.

Abstract Loss of the Ras GTPase-activating protein neurofibromin promotes the development of aggressive spindle cell neoplasms known as Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumors (MPNSTs) in patients with the genetic disorder neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1). Currently, the available chemotherapeutic regimens and radiotherapy are ineffective against MPNSTs, so the prognosis for patients with these neoplasms is poor. Neurofibromin loss dysregulates multiple Ras proteins in the classic (H-Ras, N-Ras, K-Ras) and R-Ras (R-Ras, R-Ras2/TC21, R-Ras3/M-Ras) subfamilies. Consequently, it is unclear which Ras proteins or pathways regulated by these Ras proteins should be therapeutically targeted in MPNSTs. We have previously shown that classic Ras proteins drive MPNST cell proliferation and survival. However, the role(s) of the R-Ras subfamily of proteins in MPNSTs have not been elucidated. To determine how R-Ras proteins contribute to the pathogenesis of neurofibromin-null MPNSTs, we introduced dominant negative (DN) R-Ras mutants, which are pan-inhibitors of the R-Ras subfamily, into MPNST cells and assessed the impact of R-Ras subfamily inhibition on mitogenesis, migration and the phosphoproteome. A panel of MPNST cell lines (STS-26T, YST-1, ST88-14, 90–8, NMS2, NMS-PC, S462, T265-2c) was used. Methodologies utilized include immunoblotting, PCR, Transwell migration, 3H-thymidine incorporation, and mass spectrometric analysis of phosphoprotein-enriched specimens. We found that R-Ras and R-Ras2 are widely expressed and can be activated in neurofibromin-null MPNST cells. In contrast to classic Ras proteins, we found that R-Ras proteins drive MPNST both mitogenesis and migration. Using mass spectrometry-based phosphoproteomics, we identified thirteen protein networks that were regulated by DN R-Ras, including networks affecting cellular movement via effects on microtubules. We chose to further study changes in ROCK1 phosphorylation and found that R-Ras subfamily proteins function, at least in some part, through the same pathways as ROCK1. We conclude that R-Ras proteins promote tumorigenesis by regulating distinct signaling pathways that regulate MPNST mitogenesis and migration.

The article discusses the refugee crisis in Europe, which has come to be symbolized by an Italian island of Lampedusa. The author of the article analyses two pieces by Jarosław Mikołajewski, a reportage Wielki przypływ [Great high tide] and a children’s story Wędrówka Nabu [Nabu’s Wandering], and seeks the answers to the following questions. What image of Lampedusa emerges from the reportage? What is the impact of the refugee crisis upon the lives of its residents? And finally, what is their attitude to the Other? Following Mikołajewski’s thinking, the author reflects on the challenges that the immigrants “at the gates of Europe” pose. In her opinion, Mikołajewski’s stance is open and emphatic. The aim of introducing the theme of migrants into children’s books is to teach them to be responsible for others.

The present study aims at mapping how the situation of refuge and migration is represented metaphorically in the Brazilian online media. From the data collected, we will establish comparisons between the representations that were found. An approach that contemplates the frame study employed in the media allows us to observe that verbal and nonverbal resources, metaphorical sentences and lexical items are constituted into discursive frames. We intend to discuss how the migrant and the refugee are represented in the Brazilian online media. Some questions we will investigate are: What are the discourses on the reception of refugees and migrants? Which discourses on the integration of refugees and migrants are broadcasted? From these questions, we will examine how such categories compose the image of the migrant and the refugee. The corpus used was based on the news of the online newspaper Folha de São Paulo from June, 2015, seen as it was in this month that the so called “refugee crisis” occurred in Europe. The gathering and analysis were done with the help of two free softwares: Notepad++, that allows the user to save texts in txt format, and Antconc, that enables the analysis of several txt files through tools that are used in Corpus Linguistics. The concordance lines obtained by inserting a word of choice in AntConc’s concordancer were then analyzed manually through Cameron’s (2010) Metaphor-led Discourse Analysis. A larger objective will be to identify which metaphorical frames are used in the migrant’s and refugee’s media representation and what are their social implications. Such frames contribute to organize and potentialize the discourse about the Other (BRUNO, 2016).

This report seeks to discuss the threats to liberal democracy and explore how to devise a new path towards democratic transition and the challenges faced: civil war, sectarian and religious conflicts, ethnic and national tensions, international terrorism and regional wars, and societal violence. The impact on democratic transformation, especially the sense of threat, whether literal or theoretical, led to the tendency of demagogic towards a populist outlook in pluralistic societies, generating reactions across other societies suffering from external alienation and internal tyranny. The world is currently faced with the decline of the core values of the concept of democracy at the global level which has led us to the following questions: the principle of the rule of law, peaceful trading of power, human rights, the principles of equality and sovereignty. The populists attempt to exploit the ideas of the stereotypical, especially on hatred of the other, and the xenophobia against foreigners when faced with the wave of asylum and migration seekers, diminishing freedoms and citizenship rights, coupled with the rejection of economic globalization, to the implementation of a protectionist policy. Victories such as Brexit or Donald Trump’s in the United States have brought forward scenes of fear and hatred of ‘the other’, encouraging intolerance and extremism. This led to a rise in policies against foreigners, migration, terrorism, Islam and protectionist economics. This report will look at a future beyond traditional democracy, discovering what the next stage in democracy will be, in terms of the survival of society, raising problematic questions: Is democracy, by virtue of their dynamics, able to respond to the changing realities, and whether it can renew itself and overcome some of its issues to invent new methods and literature?
