In this paper new services in Green Computing environment is introduced. Energy and power is saved in an efficient manner using proposed services. These services are still undefined to the researchers in most of the cases. A typical framework of a hierarchical structure, consisting of several levels of activities, for typical software related corporate office is considered as case study to implement services. Each type of services is shown with an example which is interrelated with the corporate office scenario. The authors' aim is to produce an energy efficient and power savings method in computing environment.

Background: An information gathering is a typical and important task in agriculture monitoring and military surveillance. In these applications, minimization of energy consumption and maximization of network lifetime have prime importance for green computing. As wireless sensor networks comprise of a large number of sensors with limited battery power and deployed at remote geographical locations for monitoring physical events, therefore it is imperative to have minimum consumption of energy during network coverage. The WSNs help in accurate monitoring of remote environment by collecting data intelligently from the individual sensors. Objective: The paper is motivated from green computing aspect of wireless sensor network and an Energy-efficient Weight-based Coverage Enhancing protocol using Genetic Algorithm (WCEGA) is presented. The WCEGA is designed to achieve continuously monitoring of remote areas for a longer time with least power consumption. Method: The cluster-based algorithm consists two phases: cluster formation and data transmission. In cluster formation, selection of cluster heads and cluster members areas based on energy and coverage efficient parameters. The governing parameters are residual energy, overlapping degree, node density and neighbor’s degree. The data transmission between CHs and sink is based on well-known evolution search algorithm i.e. Genetic Algorithm. Conclusion: The results of WCEGA are compared with other established protocols and shows significant improvement of full coverage and lifetime approximately 40% and 45% respectively.

In electric vehicles with multiple motors, the torque at each wheel can be controlled independently, offering significant opportunities for enhancing vehicle dynamics behaviour and system efficiency. This paper investigates energy efficient torque distribution strategies for improving the operational efficiency of electric vehicles with multiple motors. The proposed strategies are based on the minimisation of power losses, considering the powertrain efficiency characteristics, and are easily implementable in real-time. A longitudinal dynamics vehicle model is developed in Simulink/Simscape environment, including energy models for the electrical machines, the converter, and the energy storage system. The energy efficient torque distribution strategies are compared with simple distribution schemes under different standardised driving cycles. The effect of the different strategies on the powertrain elements, such as the electric machine and the energy storage system, are analysed. Simulation results show that the optimal torque distribution strategies provide a reduction in energy consumption of up to 5.5% for the case-study vehicle compared to simple distribution strategies, also benefiting the battery state of charge.

The number of family caregivers to individuals with dementia is increasing. Family physicians are often the first point of access to the health care system for individuals with dementia and their caregivers. Caregivers are at an increased risk of developing negative physical, cognitive and affective health problems themselves. Caregivers also describe having unmet needs to help them sustain care in the community. Family physicians are in a unique position to help support caregivers and individuals with dementia, but often struggle with keeping up with best practice dementia service knowledge. The Dementia Wellness Questionnaire was designed to serve as a starting point for discussions between caregivers and family physicians by empowering caregivers to communicate their needs and concerns and to enhance family physicians’ access to specific dementia support information. The DWQ aims to alert physicians of caregiver and patient needs. This pilot study aimed to explore the experiences of physicians and caregivers of people using the Questionnaire in two family medicine clinics in Ontario, Canada. Interviews with physicians and caregivers collected data on their experiences using the DWQ following a 10-month data gathering period. Data was analyzed using content analysis. Results indicated that family physicians may have an improved efficacy in managing dementia by having dementia care case specific guidelines integrated within electronic medical records. By having time-efficient access to tailored supports, family physicians can better address the needs of the caregiver–patient dyad and help support family caregivers in their caregiving role. Caregivers expressed that the Questionnaire helped them remember concerns to bring up with physicians, in order to receive help in a more efficient manner.

The aim of this paper is to shed light on the question regarding whether the integration of an electric battery as a part of a domestic installation may increase its energy efficiency in comparison with a conventional case. When a battery is included in such an installation, two types of electrical conversion must be considered, i.e., AC/DC and DC/AC, and hence the corresponding losses due to these converters must not be forgotten when performing the analysis. The efficiency of the whole system can be increased if one of the mentioned converters is avoided or simply when its dimensioning is reduced. Possible ways to achieve this goal can be: to use electric vehicles as DC suppliers, the use of as many DC home devices as possible, and LED lighting or charging devices based on renewables. With all this in mind, several scenarios are proposed here in order to have a look at all possibilities concerning AC and DC powering. With the aim of checking these scenarios using real data, a case study is analyzed by operating with electricity consumption mean values.
