Organizations function in complex, dynamic and unpredictable environments. Implementing changes must therefore be well planned, managed, and evaluated as such ongoing efforts link organizational performance to peer competitiveness and sustainability. In an era challenged with technological innovations, it is crucial to understand how new changes can leverage traditional methodologies and services supported by information and technology systems. As information-intensive organizations such as hospitals are highly dependent on changing information and technological systems, this understanding is key to evolve next generation hospitals. Specifically, this study analyzes how hospital managers in Portugal relate change to information systems’ management based on Information Technology Infrastructure Library methodology. The relationship between change and information technologies services is not sufficiently clarified and constitutes an excellent opportunity to increase knowledge in the field of information systems.

Research methodology – we analyze a sample of EU countries, by including them into two groups, according to the stage of their economic development. As methods, we use the logical-constructive method and also comparative methods. We also use the benchmarking method in order to estimate country indicators in the sample and compare them. Findings – the results of our study emphasize that e-entrepreneurship in developed countries is more advanced compared to developing countries. There are also significant differences regarding the use of informational technologies between types of firms by their size. Research limitations – are given by the availability of data. Practical implications – we emphasize that in order to support the development of E-entrepreneurship in the EU, government policies should pay more attention to the development of information technology infrastructure. Originality/Value – comes from grouping the EU countries into two groups, according to their stage of economic development. And, comparing the two groups as regards the use of informational and communication technologies. Keywords: information technology, e-entrepreneurship, e-business, innovation, EU countries

One of the important roles of information technology is to permit firms to manage organizational interdependence. Over the past two decades, the concept of inter-organizational information systems (IOISs) has emerged as a strategic tool for achieving competitive advantages and IOISs have been a major research theme. Many well-known examples of information systems that provide competitive advantages discussed in the literature are those of IOISs. This chapter provides the readers with a brief overview of foundational concepts, definitions, and the information technology infrastructure of IOIS. Finally, the chapter systematically classifies the IOIS literature of 192 bibliographic items into 10 subspecialties. Therefore, along with this survey of 192 bibliographic items, readers are referred to Ngai and Wat’s recent survey (Ngai & Wat, 2002) to comprehend the big picture of IOISs.

Geospatial information systems (GIS) are an important sector of the information industry, as well as an essential component of the information technology infrastructure (Lo & Yeung, 2002). They are a type of computerized information system specifically designed and used to solve geospatial problems, those which are related to locations on the surface of the earth (Longley, Goodchild, Maguire, & Rhind, 2001). The extent of usefulness of GIS has been proven across many diverse applications in many disciplines. They have long been used in traditional application settings, such as land management and natural resources, and have recently become an important element in emerging applications, for example, in ubiquitous mobile computing environments.

Purpose An area of information technology (IT) in organizations is required to manage resources efficiently. For this, IT certifications are adopted by companies and sought by professionals. However, these have many requirements and to identify which are paramount to the performance of their activities and/or are much more important to IT managers is not a trivial task. The purpose of this study is to identify how the processes of the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) v3 and Control Objectives for Information and Related Technology (CobiT) 5 certifications are analyzed by IT managers. Regarding the knowledge of professionals about the processes, which are more important, less important or indifferent in the manager’s view. Design/methodology/approach A survey is carried out with IT managers using questions elaborated according to the Kano model in which the processes of the analyzed certifications are related to classify according to the proposed model. Findings Of the 64 analyzed processes, 20 CobiT processes and 13 ITIL processes were classified as must-be requirements. Another 17 CobiT processes and 9 ITIL processes were classified as one-dimensional and 5 ITIL processes are present in more than one relationship with CobiT processes and, depending on the relationship, they were classified as must-be or one-dimensional requirements. Originality/value It is concluded that this study contributes in the discussion of the importance of the ITIL and CobiT implementations and analyzes the relevance of ITIL and CobiT certification processes in the view of IT managers, providing useful information for the professionals in terms of prioritization of the processes expected by the managers.
