Analyzing the Factors Driving the Usage of Enterprise Social Network

Connectivity and networking benefits of social media platforms have motivated organizations to deploy similar model in an organizational setting in the form of Enterprise Social Network (ESN) with an objective to increase collaboration among employees. Further, ESN is considered more relevant in today's digital business environment where organizations have to deal with collaboration and communication challenges faced by teams that have members operating from different locations and time zones. Once the ESN is implemented the next challenge for the organization is to ensure the participation of employees and keeping them motivated to use ESN for interacting with their peers. This paper aims to elucidate the factors that influence employees' decision to use ESN in the context of Indian organizations. In this study, a conceptual model is developed on the theoretical grounding of the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology theory, Technology-Organization-Environment framework, Social Capital theory and Critical Mass theory. This study proposes that employees' ESN usage behavior is driven by individual factors (i.e. perceived usefulness and perceived enjoyment), organizational factors (i.e. top management support, facilitating conditions, and collaborative norms), as well as social factors (i.e. perception of the critical mass). Data was collected using questionnaire survey method. According to the data analysis of this study, all the six factors were found statistically significant. While, support from top management was identified as the most significant factor that encourages the use of ESN, followed by the perception of critical mass regarding the usage of ESN in an organization.

Purpose Enterprise Social Network (ESN) systems have emerged as the technology of choice to bolster and support organizational efforts for harnessing embedded knowledge. However, a lack of understanding about it limits the optimization of its potential. Hence, this paper aims to assess the role of hedonic motivation, network externalities (NE) and top management support in conjugation with the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology theory to understand ESN’s usage for knowledge sharing. Design/methodology/approach Data were collected from 187 ESN users through a survey questionnaire and subsequently analyzed using variance-based structural equation modeling using the partial least squares method. Findings ESNs are used both for utilitarian and hedonic purposes. Furthermore, the results also bring out the importance of externalities arising from an extensive network of users and complimentary services, as well as support regarding resources and recognition from the top management toward reinforcing the benefits of using ESNs. Research limitations/implications This study advances earlier knowledge by assessing the actual usage of ESNs for knowledge sharing. It takes into consideration multiple input variables, namely, performance expectancy, effort expectancy, NE amongst others to best resonate with the key factors driving its adoption and usage by an individual. However, because of the cross-sectional research design, causality can only be inferred. Practical implications The organizations are recommended to have in place the measures for attaining optimal usage of ESNs, and in turn, witness knowledge moves around in ways unfathomable. Steps should be taken to develop tools and ecosystems to provide users affordances for both increasing productivity, as well as opportunities for gaining pleasure. Originality/value This study is one of its kind effort to synthesize the knowledge about the ESNs in an Indian context. It provides fascinating insights into the determinants of intention and usage of ESNs for knowledge sharing.

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems have become vital strategic tools in today’s competitive business environment. Implementation of ERP systems is a highly complex process which is influenced not only by technical, but also by other factors. The purpose of this research to find out factors influencing the success of ERP implementations in companies in Jabodetabek. In this research three factors of success implementation ERP were selected on the bases of previous research that includes top management support, project management and user involvement. The results indicate that top management support and project management are key factors affecting the success of ERP implementations, while user involvement does not affect the success of ERP implementations. Top management support, project management and user involvement affect the success rate of 72.7% of ERP implementations. While the rest equal to 27.3% influenced by other variables not included in this research model. Keywords: Enterprise Resource Planning, Top management support, project management, user involvement

Information technology and top management support are considered infrastructure for knowledge sharing. This research aims to identify infrastructure profiles and their relationship with knowledge sharing. A survey method was adopted involving 231 respondents working in information technology teams in Brazil. The analysis identified four profiles, namely: focus on information technology; focus on top management support; adrift; and knowledge sharing oriented. The latter was identified as being the most effective, while no significant difference was found between the other clusters in relation to knowledge sharing. This finding is a supplement to this field of knowledge because, in addition to confirming the relevance of the two constructs, it shows that their simultaneous presence contributes to knowledge sharing. This result also helps managers by highlighting that in order to leverage knowledge sharing it is necessary to signal the importance of the process for the company, as well as provide adequate information technology.

This study aims to examine the effect of exogenous variable consisting of organizational dimen-sion including organizational learning culture, support from top management, and individu-als namely openness in communication in affecting knowledge sharing of individuals. Besides, this study also examined how the role of knowledge sharing in improving human resource performance at Sharia Banking. This study was conducted through SEM (Structural Equation Modeling) test by using SmartPLS, a statistical software. The study was done through survey method by distributing questionnaire to 145 employees from frontliner departments at three of Sharia banks in Semarang. The findings of this study showed that two organizational di-mensions (Organizational Learning Culture and Top Management Support) have significant effect on the improvement of knowledge sharing. While Openness in Communication, the individual dimension, could not determine the improvement of knowledge sharing. Then, the improvement of human resource performance at sharia banking could be done by improving knowledge sharing.

In a small-sized to big-sized company, evaluate the information system success is essential, yet notalways been seamless. Successful implementation of a system can be indicated by measuring its usersatisfaction. This study aims to measure Adempiere ERP Open Source end-user satisfaction atBlessings SME’s. This study employs three variables from The Updated DeLone and McLean Information System Success (2003), namely information system quality, information quality, andservice quality, and two variables from Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) as well, namely perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use, and also takes top management support as another consideration. Data were collected by distributing questionnaires to the respondents directly concerned. The findings showed that information quality, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and top management support have significant positive impact to Adempiere ERP Open Source enduser satisfaction, whereas information system quality and service quality have positive impact but not significantly.Keywords: Small-Medium Enterprises, information system quality, information quality, servicequality, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, top management support, end usersatisfaction, information system

We present a review and analysis of the rich body of research on the adoption and diffusion of IT-based innovations by individuals and organizations. Our review analyzes 48 empirical studies on individual and 51 studies on organizational IT adoption published between 1992 and 2003. In total, the sample contains 135 independent variables, eight dependent variables, and 505 relationships between independent and dependent variables. Furthermore, our sample includes both quantitative and qualitative studies. We were able to include qualitative studies because of a unique coding scheme, which can easily be replicated in other reviews. We use this sample to assess predictors, linkages, and biases in individual and organizational IT adoption research. The best predictors of individual IT adoption include Perceived Usefulness, Top Management Support, Computer Experience, Behavioral Intention, and User Support. The best predictors of IT adoption by organizations were Top Management Support, External Pressure, Professionalism of the IS Unit, and External Information Sources. At the level of independent variables, Top Management Support stands as the main linkage between individual and organizational IT adoption. But at an aggregate level, two collections of independent variables were good predictors of both individual and organizational IT adoption. These were innovation characteristics and organizational characteristics. Thus, we can consistently say that generic characteristics of the innovation and characteristics of the organization are strong predictors of IT adoption by both individuals and organizations. Based on an assessment of the predictors, linkages, and known biases, we prescribe 10 areas for further exploration.

With the growth of the information technology industry, the literature exploring cloud computing, in particular, SaaS adoption has been developing considerably over the last few years. It is time to take stock of SaaS adoption’s determinant factors and its application to more specific contexts. This study endeavored to investigate the influence of three organizational factors (organizational size, organizational readiness, and top management support) to SaaS adoption in Vietnamese enterprises across sectors. Qualitative method was employed to analyze data gathered from 18 case-study companies. The findings reconfirmed that top management support is the strongest enabler for SaaS adoption while there are still some contradictions between organizational size as well as organizational readiness versus SaaS adoption in the context of a developing country as Vietnam.

ABSTRAK Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi adopsi cloud computing di rumah sakit Muhammadiyah di Indonesia dengan menggunakan Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). Sampel yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah 51 sampel. Alat analisis yang digunakan Partial Least Square (PLS) pada program SmartPLS versi 2.0. Faktor pendukung dalam adopsi cloud computing : perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, security effectiveness, reliabilty, needs, cost effectiveness, top management support, complexity, behavioral intention to use dan actual usage. Evaluasi goodness of fit dan resampling bootstraping digunakan untuk menganalisis kelayakan model. Evaluasi goodness of fit model struktural diukur menggunakan nilai predictive-relevance diperoleh nilai sebesar = 0,95 yang artinya model memiliki nilai prediktif yang sangat baik. Hasil uji hipotesis diperoleh dengan menggunakan resampling bootstraping dengan menghitung hubungan antar variabel memiliki nilai t- hitung yang lebih besar = 2.01 dalam adopsi cloud computing di rumah sakit Muhammadiyah, 8 (delapan) hipotesis diterima yaitu: Perceived usefulness, , Perceived ease of use , needs, top management support, complexity dan 3 (tiga) hipotesis ditolak yaitu: security, reliabilty dan cost effectivenes Kata kunci: cloud computing, perceived usefulness, needs, top management support, behavioral intention to use, partial leastsquare (PLS).

E-marketing has emerged as one of the significant drivers in sustaining the firms competitive advantage. So far, there is a lack of systematic empirical evidence regarding the marketing activities which are drastically affected by the use of e-marketing in small and large firms of Pakistan and their consequent performance outcomes. However, the objective of this study is to examine the technological, organizational and environmental factors on the performance of small and large firms in Pakistan with mediating role of E-Marketing uses and its generlizibality on countries with similar economic situation. Cross sectional data were collected from 257 manufacturing companies in Pakistan; general manager marketing were selected as the data collection sources. Additionally, SmartPLS 3.0, two step path-modeling has been used to examine the direct as well as indirect hypothesis of the current study. However, the results generated from SmartPLS (SEM) path-modeling found that, with regard to direct relationships, three variables (technology orientation, top management support, use of e-marketing) out of five including mediation variable have found significant positively associated with firm performance, however, only one (competitive pressure) has found negatively significant with firm performance. Finally, in terms of use of e-marketing as mediating variable between the relationships of technological, organizational, environmental factors and firm performance, three out of four (independent variables) indicate partial mediation including technological factors (technology orientation), organizational factors (top management support) and environmental factors (competitive pressure). However, market orientation had shown insignificant results both in the direct relationship as well as by including E-Marketing uses.

Purpose Blockchain possesses the potential to disrupt and reshape a plethora of industries in the next decade. However, blockchain adoption rates in technology developed countries, such as Ireland, are relatively low. Motivated by blockchain’s potential to transform sociotechnical systems, the lack of systematic inquiry pertaining to blockchain studies from an information system perspective, the authors propose the following research question: “How do organizational factors influence blockchain adoption in organizations based in a developed country?” Specifically, the purpose of this paper is to elucidate the impact of organizational factors on the adoption of blockchain and the adoption of blockchain in companies based in Ireland. Design/methodology/approach A comprehensive literature review was conducted, and the methods of qualitative content analysis were used to identify the most important technology–organization–environment (TOE) blockchain adoption factors. Organizational factors are often viewed as the most significant determinants of IT innovation adoption in organizations. Consequently, using a multiple-case study of 20 companies based in Ireland, the authors investigate how the top three organizational factors identified from the blockchain literature affected these companies decision to adopt or not adopt blockchain. Findings The literature review on blockchain adoption identified specific technological, organizational and environmental factors. Furthermore, the case study findings identified three patterns: top management support and organizational readiness are enablers for blockchain adoption, and large companies are more likely to adopt blockchain than small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The authors explain these patterns by examining the nature of blockchain and the characteristics of Ireland as a developed country. Practical and scientific contributions are also presented. Research limitations/implications This study makes several important scientific contributions. First, the findings revealed that top management support and organizational readiness are significant enablers of blockchain adoption. Ireland is recognized as a technology developed country; however, the findings in relation to top management support contradict existing IT adoption literature pertaining to developed countries. Second, previous IT innovation adoption literature suggests that organizations size has a positive influence on a company’s IT innovation adoption process. This study demonstrates that large organizations are more likely to not only adopt blockchain but are also more likely to conduct increased levels of blockchain research and development activities. Finally, and most significantly, the authors identified several patterns, which relate specifically to Ireland as a developed country that influenced the findings. These findings could hold particular relevance to governments and organizations of other developed countries in terms of accelerating blockchain adoption. Practical implications The findings about the low level of blockchain awareness and the lack of information pertaining to viable business use cases indicate that the Irish government could play a more significant role in promoting the benefits of blockchain technologies. Further, the findings could also encourage IT providers to formulate enhanced strategies aimed at disseminating information pertaining to blockchain technologies. Second, the positive influence of top management support and organizational readiness, particularly about core competencies, on blockchain adoption suggests that equipping managers with the requisite knowledge and skills will be crucial in adopting these IT innovations. Finally, organizations who adopted blockchain used cloud-based blockchain platforms and tools to overcome the constraints of their initial low levels of organizational readiness. Originality/value This is one of the first studies to identify specific TOE blockchain adoption factors. Further, the authors examine how the three most identified organizational adoption factors impact organizations decisions to adopt blockchain. Finally, the authors discuss how the resulting three patterns identified by examining the nature of blockchain and the characteristics of Ireland as a technology developed country.
