Minding the Gap Between First and Continued Usage of a Corporate E-Learning English-language Program

The implementation of computer on-line English-language learning (COEL) (acronyms given in the Appendix) programs in business contexts remains an unexplored area in the computer assisted language learning literature. Moreover, while many studies have focused on learners’ first usage intentions in TAM (technical acceptance model), few have explored their intentions to continue using them. To address this lacuna, the authors propose a framework for COEL derived from a three-month empirical study of learners’ perceived ease of use (PEOU), perceived usefulness (PU), perceived enjoyment (PENJ), attitudes towards corporate e-learning (ATT), intention (INT), technology satisfaction (SAT), and affective reaction (AR) regarding a COEL program implemented at a financial firm in Taiwan. An examination of the proposed two models revealed gaps between learners’ intention of first usage and re-usage of the COEL. Further analyses revealed a significant difference between groups of high intention learners to re-use the COEL and low intention learners to re-use the COEL. A second investigation determined eight factors that contributed to the differences between these two diverse groups of learners. This study’s findings shed light on the relationship between TAM model and factors related to COEL programs.

Purpose -Response to the sudden pandemic, COVID-19 drastic shift of work practices requires the implementation of an e-learning system, but their adoption requires a thorough understanding of the user acceptance process. Our key effort is to incorporate a framework, “internet experience” to determine the existing Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) applicability in describing students’ s e-learning decisions in Haryana state. Design/methodology- The researcher has administered a questionnaire based on TAM’s constructs and collected data from UG and PG students of Haryana state of India. Findings – The results revealed that perceived usefulness (PU) has a significant positive relationship with continuous usage intention (CUI) whilst, perceived ease of use (PEOU), computer self-efficacy (CSE) and internet experience (IE) have not. Attitude towards E-learning system (ATELS) has found no relevance in this model. Originality/value Majority research has been done using the TAM model in a developed nation. Empirical study has not been done in Haryana state so far.

The study aimed at investigating the influence of E-learning Self- Efficacy (ELSE) on the acceptance of e-learning by using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). According to the TAM which used as the theoretical basis, both of the Perceived Usefulness (PU) and the Perceived Ease of Use (PEOU) influence directly the end user's Behavioral Intention (BI) to accept a technology. A survey was used to collect information about the perceptions of Al-Aqsa university students. Collected data was analyzed using the regression equation by SPSS. A structured questionnaire was used to obtain responses from (592) students who took the e-courses of the “instructional technology, research methods, measurement and evaluation”. The most significant results of the study showed that Al-Aqsa university students have high levels of acceptance and Self-Efficacy toward E-Learning representing a rate above 75%. Furthermore, there are positive and significant relationships between dependence and independence variables. However, the study found a significant relationship between finding ELSE, PEOU, PU and BI (Y= 1.2 +0.05ELSE+0.06PEOU+0.16PU+e, r = 0.65, P<0.01). Other relationships were found among variables such as ELSE, PEOU and PU (Y= 7.5 +0.11ELSE+0.21PEOU+e, r = 0.62, P<0.01), ELSE and PEOU (Y= 0.56 +0.242ELSE+e, r= 0.64, P<0.01).

E-learning is a method of delivering knowledge using information technology and electronic media for the remote users. The advantages of e-learning method can be fully achieved with the postgraduate studies as majority of the postgraduate students are engaged in learning while they are working and also geographically dispersed due to the family and work life thus physically appearing for the lecture sessions are difficult to them. This paper attempts to develop a framework to measure the postgraduate students’ perceived technology acceptance by developing a modified version of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) which replaces perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use in the original model of TAM with relative advantage and complexity and incorporate other variables of trialability, observability, compatibility, psychological wellbeing and social influence of the students. The developed model is validated using 30 postgraduate students from Sri Lanka and thus this model can be used in future researchers to measure the perceived e-learning acceptance of postgraduate students.

This study applied the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) in investigating teachers and students’ perceptions towards integrating the D2L system to enhance EFL teaching and learning processes at the English language department, Majmaah University. Two close-ended questionnaires were designed to measure the participants’ perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, attitudes, and intentions to use D2L. To understand participants’ perceptions and the obstacles that may hinder their use of D2L, an interview with open-ended questions were conducted. Data from the questionnaires were analyzed using SPSS. Qualitative analysis of the interview data showed the frequencies and proportions of participants’ responses. The findings indicated that the D2L system is totally accepted by teachers and students. Few problems along with their suggested solutions were grouped, presented and discussed.

The development of media in a conception of learning technology must have the following characteristics: (a) target oriented; (b) applying the concept of a systems approach; and (c) make use of varied learning resources. Thus the application of media and educational technology, can realize a concept of "teaching less learning more". As technology-based media variations develop, teaching materials become more interesting. Not only text and images, but there is audio, video and animation that make a concept easier to understand. Presentation of information in several ways and forms is often called multimedia. This research method is a survey research that aims to obtain information on students' perceptions of the use of PowToon multimedia-based teaching materials. The questionnaire was used as an instrument to obtain this information. The results of the questionnaire were then analyzed using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) model approach; namely: perceived usefulness (perceived usefulness), perceived ease of use, attitude toward using technology, and behavioral intention to use

Since March 2020, the case of coronavirus disease or known as Covid-19, has become a global pandemic. According to UNESCO, schools are closed in about 100 countries due to a public health emergency, including Indonesia. The condition forces teachers to make the transition of the way they teach from face to face learning to online learning. This study investigated EFL teachers’ Perception of online English language learning. Their perceptions were analyzed in three aspects: perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and their attitude toward online English language learning. This study employed a descriptive design with a qualitative approach. A survey questionnaire and interview were used in this study to elicit the responses of 102 Junior High School English teachers in Bandung. This study's findings revealed that the participants showed a positive perception of the usefulness and ease of use of online learning systems during pandemic Covid-19. Still, more than half of the teachers didn’t agree on the effectiveness of it. Even though the teachers face many online teaching problems, they could show the right attitude toward using technology to teach online.

Abstract One of the most significant changes in the field of education in this information age is the paradigm shift from teacher-centered to learner-centered education. Along with this paradigm shift, understanding of students’ e-learning adoption behavior among various countries is urgently needed. Despite being one of the many countries that are still at the early stages in implementing e-learning, Palestine is a country that has recently seen an expansion in the number of students and the quality of education, which has involved high investment in e-learning. Hence, studies in this area of research interest have yet to be made known within the field of education. This study attempted to address the disparity within the literature for an individual country, Palestine, on the significant influences towards adopting e-learning. A model that investigates the effects of quality features, perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness on the intentions and satisfaction of the learners towards the effects of e-learning is proposed in this study. This model encompassed the constructs and variables embedded in TAM and ISSM along with instructor quality. The outcomes of the model, such as actual use and the moderating effect of technical support towards e-learning in Palestine, were investigated. The study proposed that the quality of the course, instructor, service and system as well as perceived usefulness determined the satisfaction among students in use e-learning.

Maximum utilization of technology in all fields of life including language education by a country has become inevitable to survive in the competitive world. Saudi government has already invested a lot of efforts and public finance to adopt modern teaching practices using Information Communication Technology (ICT) to supplement English Language Teaching (ELT) in Saudi Arabia. The present study applies Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) as a theoretical model to explore the effects of different factors on the attitudes of teachers towards using Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) in the language learning contexts of Saudi Arabia. The current study investigates the effect of perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use on the attitude and intended usage behavior of Saudi English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers towards using CALL. In addition to these two factors borrowed from TAM, three other variables: social influence, facilitating conditions and management support are added into the model. To test the hypothesized model, this study applied a quantitative questionnaire survey approach with participants chosen randomly from 10 different universities in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. A total of 421 valid responses received through online questionnaire from the teachers were used for the analysis to achieve research objectives and hypotheses testing. Structural Equation Modeling Analysis was employed to analyze the data. The findings of this study are found very encouraging and provide sufficient support to the proposed model of the study, which was consisting of TAM as the foundation theory. According to TAM, postulation perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use both are two significant elements that determine attitude and intended usage behavior. These hypotheses were found significant, thus provided external validity to the TAM postulations. In addition, the findings suggested that social influence, management support, and facilitating conditions are important factors that influence individuals’ intended behavior towards CALL usage.

This paper examined the effect of theoretical and institutional factors that influenced the adoption of e-learning in Universities in Ghana. The study sought to improve understanding of the motivational factors behind the adoption of e-learning systems. This study extended the original Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) to include institutional factors. A sample of 600 lecturers was drawn from both private and public universities in Ghana. Correlation analysis was used to determine the relationship between e-learning and the theoretical factors as well as the relationship between e-learning adoption and institutional factors. Linear regression analysis was used to determine whether the theoretical factors predict e-learning adoption. The study revealed that e-learning was positively correlated to all the theoretical factors discussed. It was observed that significant relationship existed between Perceived Usefulness (PU) and e-learning, while the weakest relationship existed between e-learning and Perceived Ease of Use (PEOU). The research concluded that a lecturer’s adoption of e-learning depended on PEOU as well as PU. However, a lecturer’s adoption of e-learning was more dependent on a lecturer’s PU, that is, the degree to which the lecturer believed that using a particular system would enhance his or her job performance.
