In injection molding processes, while the plastic is injected into the mold cavity, the displaced air leaves the mold through openings which are referred to as the venting slots. With the continuous improvements of manufacturing precision and injecting speed, the design of venting slot is becoming an important problem which influences the quality of products greatly. In this paper, five types of possible location to generate “gas-trap” were summarized based on the research and analysis of mold manufacturing and injection molding. The dimensions of venting slot, eight kinds of venting mode and their corresponding structures were presented. The principle for the design of venting system was proposed.

With the improvement of accuracy requirements for industrial products, the precise injection molding is replacing the traditional injection molding quickly and widely. Many factors influence the quality of injection-molded parts greatly, such as the property of the plastics, mold structure and the manufacturing accuracy, injecting machine and the injecting process parameters. In this paper, the work is emphasized for the influence of mold structure on the quality of injection-molded parts. Eight portions of injection mold are analyzed, including the cavities and cores, the guide components, the runner system, the ejection system, the side-core pulling mechanism, the temperature balance system, the venting system and the supporting parts. The structural characteristics of the above eight portions are presented.

Simulation of injection molding of polymeric materials is still a series scientific and engineering problem. The quality of the input data is crucial for computation accuracy. The original, relatively simple tool has been designed to validate simulations. This allows a fast identification of the critical input data, and next their proper adjustment to computations. FEM simulations have been compared with directly registered pictures of cavity filling process in a special injection mold with a sight-glass.

Abstract To achieve high quality and reliability in mechatronics products, thorough consideration of dynamic performance in structural design is essential. Typical examples include the design of optical pick-ups for disk related products, such as Compact Disc (CD) drives, and Magneto-optical Disc (MO) drives. Many researchers have developed design methodologies to optimize the nominal dynamic characteristics. Recently, robustness of dynamic performance has become an important issue in addition to optimizing nominal performance. Engineers seek to improve the quality of products by minimizing the effects of numerous variations that arise during the product’s manufacturing and life-cycle operation. This paper reports on the application of the robust design concept to the dynamic design of an optical pick-up actuator focusing on shape synthesis using computer models and design of experiments. By comparing this approach to analytical sensitivity solution, the authors provide a rationale for using the relatively simple statistical approach with orthogonal arrays.

In this paper, based on the characteristics of shell part, the application of hot runner system for the shell parts injection molding process was analyzed by Moldflow. According to this research, design parameters obtained were optimized. The result shows that hot runner system enables injection mold cooling faster , shortens the molding cycle time , and also improves the quality of the shell part.

In order to improve the manufacturing efficiency and product quality of transparent and complex plastic knobs, a hot runner injection mold is introduced in this paper. Based on a shared hot runner system and a module combination of the mold holders, inserts and the beryllium-copper cored cooling components, an effective general model for hot runner injection molding is developed. The beryllium copper insert extrusion process is employed to copy with the requirements of great variety, high quality, low price and short producing cycle for knob products. The results of CAE analysis and production validation for typical knobs and insert extrusion process demonstrate the effectiveness of the newly developed hot runner injection molding and that the product quality fulfill the requirements of real manufacturing process.

Based on the combination of UV curing and injection molding, a new concept named "chemical manufacturing" is proposed in this paper. A cylinder with a diameter of 6mm and a height of 10mm was used as the molding sample;A single factor analysis was used to determine the effects of the intensity of ultraviolet, the duration of ultraviolet irradiation and the distance between UVLED device and product surface on the formability of UV-curing injection molding. The experimental results showed that the intensity of UV radiation, the UV irradiation duration and the distance between UVLED device and product surface have a significant effect on the UV-curing molding of the product. With the increase of ultraviolet radiation intensity and UV irradiation duration, the forming quality of the products increases, while with the increase of the distance between UVLED device and product surface the forming quality of products declines.

The level of the mold production for a country is an important symbol of the manufacturing level. In order to shorten the cycle of mold design and being put to use, we use the injection mold CAE software MOLDFLOW to simulate the plastic parts of automobile and simulate the design of gating processes of plastic parts to find flaws in advance and ensure the quality of products.
