In order to study the effectiveness of new type modified asphalt additive SBP on pavement performance of asphalt mixture, the experiments were carried out to evaluate the mixing and compaction temperature, high-temperature stability and water stability of SBP modified asphalt mixture. The high-temperature stability of the SBP modified asphalt mortar was studied by DSR. The heating temperature of mineral aggregate and the asphalt mixture mixing temperature and compacted temperature were determined by three different temperature asphalt mixture SCB test, which were got SGC (Superpave Gyratory Compactor). The wheel tracking test of asphalt mixture was carried to evaluate the high-temperature stability and freeze-thaw split test were studied the water stability. Through the wheel tracking test and water stability test in harsh condition, the high-temperature stability and water stability was evaluated again. It can be concluded that SBP can improve the pavement performances of asphalt mixtures.

According to the porous asphalt concrete’s big void structure as well as high temperature and rainy application environment, the author point out that using the conventional evaluation index such as high temperature stability and water stability to evaluate the PAC’s performance seem single, and then put up with estimating the PAC’s pavement performance by means of Hamburg Wheel Tracking under the water-high temperature’s comprehensive action. Studied on the PAC with the same raw materials and different gradations, and compared with the experimental results of AC-13 modified asphalt mixture and SMA-13, the results shows that, Hamburg Wheel Tracking test not only considered the water-high temperature’s comprehensive action on mixture, but also considered the mixture’s performance decay under long-term loading. Hamburg Wheel Tracking test can evaluate the PAC’s performance more practically, the PAC which materials and graduations reasonably designed have good performance, and its Hamburg Wheel Tracking final deformation is only 3.89mm, it can satisfy the demand from the high temperature and rainy environment. As well, the test results also comes to the conclusions that under the same materials and the same air voids, the PAC with coarse framework structure own better water stability and water-high temperature stability.

Adding sulphur dilution asphalt modifier SEAM to asphalt mixture is not only a modifier of asphalt mixture, but also an additive of asphalt mixture. When the modifier is added into the asphalt mixture, the road performance of the asphalt mixture can be improved. This paper studies SEAM modified asphalt mixture the Marshall property index, temperature stability, Water stability and fatigue feature in the Laboratory. On the based of the result of the experiment and analysis, SEAM can improve the high temperature stability, Water stability and fatigue feature. But the low temperature stability can’t improve.

This paper made a research into each performance index of basalt fibre strengthen SBS modified asphalt mixture by using two kinds of gradation, which are AC-20C of mid-surface and AC-13C of upper layer. And compared and analyzed with the same gradation of carbon fiber strengthen SBS modified asphalt mixture. The results showed that compared to carbon fiber strengthen SBS modified asphalt mixture Conbasalt , basalt fibre strengthen SBS modified asphalt mixture is equivalent on water stability and fatigue resistance, etc. It is relatively weak on low-temperature crack resistance. But it has decided advantage on high temperature stability.

Montmorillonite/SBS composite modifed asphalts were prepared by mixing montmorillonite with SBS-modified asphalt, further the corresponding asphalt mixtures were obtained. The paving technical indexes of the mixture such as physical properties, moisture suscepyibility, and high temperature stability were tested, and compared with that of the corresponding SBS-modifed asphalt mixture and base asphalt mixture. The results demonstrate that the montmorillonite/SBS composite modifed asphalt mixture exhibites enhanced stability, improved flow value and moisture susceptibility, and increased high temperature stability.

In order to deeply reveal the high temperature stability of asphalt mixture, rutting test was implemented to evaluate the high temperature stability of asphalt mixture, and the evaluation index is dynamic stability. The effect of asphalt type, degree of compaction, gradation type and nominal maximum aggregate size on rutting test results was studied respectively. The results showed that: modified asphalt can improve the high temperature stability of asphalt mixture effectively; the anti-rutting performance of asphalt mixture reduces gradually with decrease of the degree of compaction; the anti-rutting performance of SAC-16 is greater than that of AC-16; and the anti-rutting performance of asphalt mixture is improved with increase of the nominal size of aggregate.

It was based on laboratory test, in order to study on the high temperature stability, water stability and low-temperature crack resistance of AC-16 reclaiming asphalt mixture with different proportion of old material, this test takes into account 9 kinds of these asphalt mixture. The results show, with the old material blending ratio increased, the high temperature stability of asphalt mixture changed for the better, water stability and low-temperature crack resistance deteriorated. The pavement performance meet the requirements of secondary road or less, when old material content is within 70%. The research results provide reference for the application of reclaiming asphalt mixture.

Grey relational analysis (GRA) is an important data handling techniques. In this paper, combining the characteristics of asphalt mixture, the method of GRA is applied to the study of coarse grading. The high temperature stability, low temperature cracking resistance and water stability of asphalt mixture with different grading were evaluated in the laboratory. The results showed that OGFC-25 gradation apply to asphalt mixture that demand high temperature stability. Similarly, ATB-25 gradation benefit low temperature performance and SUP-25 benefit water stability.

Marshall test design methods are used to design TLA modified asphalt mixture and base asphalt mixture respectively, and their pavement performance is tested. The results showed that there is a transforming coefficient of 1.15 between OAC of TLA modified asphalt mixture and that of base asphalt mixture, and ultimate gradation of the TLA modified asphalt mixture is finer than previous gradation. TLA modified asphalt mixture has excellent high temperature stability, capacity of moisture-resistance damage and impermeability. So it can be applied to asphalt pavements engineering of expressway in China.

The types and contents of styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS) modifier are two important factors of SBS modified asphalt mixtures. Nowadays, SBS are extensively utilized to modified asphalt in order to improve the performance of the flexible pavement. The objective of this study is to determine a best selection of types and contents of SBS modifier, which can improve high-temperature stability; low-temperature anti-cracking performance and moisture susceptibility of SBS modified asphalt mixture. The mixtures with four types of SBS (Linear A, Linear B, Star A, Star B) and the different contents of each type SBS including Linear SBS of 0%, 3%, 4%, 4.5% and Star SBS of 0%, 3%, 3.5%, 4%, were evaluated for the pavement performance of them under laboratory conditions. Wheel tracking test, beam bending test and freeze-thaw tensile strength test were chosen and carried out to determine high-temperature stability, low-temperature anti-cracking performance and the moisture susceptibility respectively. The laboratory testing results indicate that Star SBS show the more effective effects than Linear SBS to improve the high-temperature stability, low-temperature anti-cracking performance and moisture susceptibility of SBS modified asphalt mixture, and the optimum content of SBS can also play a key role the improvement of the pavement performance.
