In order to study the phase of Fe and Ti in a beach placer , different methods such as the X-ray diffraction analysis, chemical analysis, scanning electron microscopic , electron probe microanalysis are used to study the characteristics of the beach placer . The research results show the major metallic mineral in the beach placer is titanic magnetite, EDS and energy spectrum map features of which indicate that the vast majority of titanic magnetite contain a certain amount of Ti , the two elements of Fe and Ti take on closely symbiosis and distribute more evenly in titanic magnetite. The Ti exists in the Magnetite lattice in form of isomorphism. The theoretical highest grade of Fe and Ti in the separated Magnetic concentrate are 66.02per cent and 4.86 per cent respectively. In addition, the beach placer contains a small quantity of Ilmenite which is hysterogenic and exists in the form of fine solid solution separation structure in the titanic magnetite

BaFeO3-y compositions (0.35<y<0.50) have been investigated by means of electron diffraction and microscopy to resolve contradictory results from powder X-ray diffraction data. The samples were obtained by annealing BaFeO2.56 for 48 h. in the temperature range from 980°C to 1050°C . Total iron and barium in the samples were determined using chemical analysis and gravimetric methods, respectively. In the BaFeO3-y system, according to the electron diffraction and microscopy results, the nonstoichiometry is accommodated in different ways as a function of the composition (y):In the domain between BaFeO2.5+δBaFeO2.54, compositional variations are accommodated through the formation of microdomains. Fig. la shows the ED pattern of the BaFeO2.52 material along thezone axis. The corresponding electron micrograph is seen in Fig. 1b. Several domains corresponding to the monoclinic BaFeO2.50 phase, intergrow with domains of the orthorhombic phase. According to that, the ED pattern of Fig. 1a, can be interpreted as formed by the superposition of three types of diffraction maxima : Very strong spots corresponding to a cubic perovskite, a set of maxima due to the superposition of three domains of the monoclinic phase along [100]m and a series of maxima corresponding to three domains corresponding to the orthorhombic phase along the [100]o.

In this paper the synthesis and the study of some complex compounds of Fe(III) with ligands derived from: 2-(4-chloro-phenylsulfanyl)-1-(2-hydroxy-3,5-diiodo-phenyl)-ethanone (HL1), 1-(3,5-dibromo-2-hydroxy-phenyl)-2-phenylsulfanyl-ethanone(HL2), and 2-(4-chloro-phenylsulfanyl)-1-(3,5-dibromo-2-hydroxy-phenyl)-ethanone (HL3) is presented. The characterization of these complexes is based on method as: the elemental chemical analysis, IR and ESR spectroscopy, Mssbauer, the thermogravimetric analysis and X-ray diffraction. Study of the IR and chemical analysis has evidenced that the precipitates form are a complexes and the combination ratio of M:L is 1:2. The central atoms of Fe(III) presented paramagnetic properties and a octaedric hybridization. Starting from this precipitation reactions, a method for the gravimetric determination of Fe(III) with this organic ligands has been possible. Based on the experimental data on literature indications, the structural formulae of the complex compounds are assigned.

Ferrous sulphate was oxidized by potassium chlorate in the pH region 2-7 and at temperatures ranging from 298.1 to 323.1 K and various hydrolytic products of Fe(III) were separated and indentified. The separated solid ferric products were analyzed using a combination of the chemical analysis, IR spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and electron microscopy. The following substances were found as major components of the products: Fe2O3.n H2O ("ferric gel"), Fe2O3.n H2O with bound SO2-4 ions ("sulphogel"), α-FeO(OH), γ-FeO(OH) and Fe3O4. Their amount depends particularly on the pH temperature of the reaction medium.

AbstractTrachyandesite rocks, occurring over an area of about 1 km2in the southwest part of Limnos Island, Greece, are altered mainly to halloysite. The samples were collected and analysed by polarizing microscopy, powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and chemical analysis. The alteration of plagioclase to halloysite follows seven discrete stages that are described in detail. The geochemical evaluation of the data shows enrichment of the lightREE(LREE) over heavyREE(HREE) as expressed by the (La/Yb)n ratio. TheΣLREErange from 206.44 to 272.30, while the sum ofHREEvaries from 11.01 to 26.26. The (La/Yb)n ratio ranges from 9.72 to 27.64. Fractionation amongLREEexpressed as (La/Sm)n and between middleREE(MREE) andHREEis shown as (Tb/Yb)n ratios. The most altered rocks close to the fault zone have high (Tb/Yb)n ratios and low (La/Sm)n and Eu/Eu* ratios. Although mineralogy and clay mineral textures indicate hydrothermal genesis of halloysite, the geochemical data are not conclusive due to a secondary weathering effect.

Pre-cooked adzuki beans (Vigna angularis), which looks like dried adzuki bean, is easily cooked and preserved. This study aimed to optimize the microwave pre-cooked conditions on adzuki beans by applying the response surface methodology. The results showed that soaking time has a significant effect on the gelatinization degree of adzuki beans according to microwave time. The most suitable gelatinization and the sensory scores were obtained with a soaking time of 7.8 h, a microwave power of 830 W, and microwave time of 92 s. The pre-cooked treatment had no significant effect (p > 0.05) on the protein, free amino acid, fat and starch content of adzuki bean products. The results of SEM and polarized light microscopy showed that the surface and center of starch were damaged after microwave treatment. XRD showed that microwave pre-cooking did not change the crystal structure of starch and maintained the original order of type A structure while reducing the relative starch crystallinity. FT-IR showed that the pre-cooked treatment did not produce new structure in adzuki bean starch, but the ratio of 1047/1022 cm−1 was slightly decreased, indicating that the starch crystallization area decreased relative to the amorphous area and the relative crystallinity decreased. The results of FTIR were consistent with X-ray diffraction results. Therefore, microwaves improved the gelatinization of adzuki beans and made the pre-cooked adzuki beans more suitable.

AbstractMany materials, both fissionable and non-fissionable, become very radioactive when subjected to nuclear radiations. This radioactivity results in a high background level in X-ray diffraction studies and becomes a limiting factor in an analysis of radiation damage. A description is given of special techniques that are used to minimize this background and produce optimum diffraction conditions. The radioactive intensity of irradiated X-ray specimens varies from levels that are only mildly troublesome to levels that are extremely hazardous to personnel. The diffraction methods employed at the various levels are explained. An example of the radioactive energy spectrum of a specimen is given to show the method of selecting the best operating conditions and techniques.

In the presence of polyethylene glycol (PEG2W),bimodal mesoporous γ-Al2O3 was successfully synthesized via hydrothermal method. The samples were respectively characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), N2 physisorption, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), thermogravimetric and differential scanning calorimeter (TG-DSC). Introduction of PEG2W can increase the relative crystallinity of AACH and γ-Al2O3. The BET surface area and pore volume of alumina shows an increasing trend with increasing of PEG2W content, while the pore size shows an opposite tendency. The PEG2W also plays an important role in inducing the formation of the nanorod-like alumina.
