Orthotropic decks are commonly used in high-speed railway bridges. Finite-element model is established by ANSYS for orthotropic steel bridge deck in this paper. Taking the standard PDL ZK live load as the train load, the local stress of the rib-to-deck joint, the rib-to-crossbeam joint, and the cut-outs of the crossbeam are analyzed respectively. Analysis results show that the stress concentration of bridge deck mainly appears at the intersecting part of the U-shaped rib, crossbeam, and bridge deck. In the whole bridge deck, the local stress level of the cut-outs in crossbeam is almost the highest, and the cut-outs is distorted seriously; the maximum stress of crossbeam cut-outs is mainly concentrated at the lower arc of the cut-outs, which is one of the positions prone to fatigue failure.

Orthotropic monolithic steel bridge deck system stiffened by U rib is very fit for high-speed railway steel bridges because of its excellent mechanical behaviors. Thickness of flange is a very important parameter of U rib and has influence on mechanical behaviors of orthotropic monolithic steel bridge deck system. Based on the engineering practice of Anqing Yangtze River Railway Grand Bridge, the kind and the extents of influences of thickness of flange of U rib on mechanical behaviors of orthotropic monolithic steel bridge deck system are studied with finite element analysis. The results show that thickness of flange of U rib has relative large positive influences on rigidity, strength and stability of orthotropic monolithic steel bridge deck system. 14~18mm is the appropriate range of thickness of flange of U rib for high-speed railway steel bridges.

The values of longitudinal horizontal linear-stiffness of piers are very important parameters in the design of welded turnout on bridge and they can have a great impact on the force and displacement of the turnout. The layout form of turnout and bridge of welded turnout structure system on high-speed railway bridges are various, so the values of longitudinal horizontal linear-stiffness of piers have to be limited in order to insure the strength and stability of track structure on bridges and at the same time meet the requirement of comparative displacement of beam and rail, turnout proper and frog. To make the value-taking easy in the design process, a finite element model for welded turnout-bridge-platform is established in this paper, which is based on the principle of longitudinal interaction of welded turnout on bridges. Directing at three typical layout forms (No.18 single turnout+4×32m continuous beam, single crossover+6×32m continuous beam and typical throat point+4×32m continuous beam) of welded turnout and bridge on ballast track, a research of the relation between the force and displacement of turnout, and the values of longitudinal horizontal linear-stiffness of piers has been carried out. Based on the comprehensive analysis, minimal values of longitudinal horizontal linear-stiffness of piers which are suitable for these three kinds of layout forms, and the values are 1000,800 and 1600 kN/cm·double-line respectively.

Some retrofitted methods are introduced, and in these retrofitted methods, a strengthening case of using the sandwich plate system (SPS) to strengthen the orthotropic steel bridge deck of a suspend bridge was studied. A local finite element model is established by ANSYS based on an orthotropic steel bridge deck sample, stress distribution of deck due to the wheel load of the vehicle defined in China current code were analyzed under different loading conditions, and the strengthening effect with SPS was evaluated. The influence of the thickness and elastic modulus of elastic sandwich on the transverse stress of deck was analyzed. The results show that, compared with the orthotropic steel bridge deck before strengthened, the stress peak is decreased obviously without new welding residual stress be generated, and the fatigue resistant of bridge deck is increased apparently after the deck strengthened by SPS. The variation of the thickness and elastic modulus of the elastic sandwich have little influence on the stress behaviours of the orthotropic steel bridge deck.

Due to the superior structure style, orthotropic steel bridge deck has been getting more and more widely practical application. The static and fatigue tests of the orthotropic steel bridge deck models were carried out in this research paper, which presented the fatigue damage developing laws, compared the test results with homogeneous test results in existing documents, and according to the relative fatigue accumulative damage theory, the fatigue accumulative damage equations of the sectional specimen and the whole specimen are respectively studied.
