In order to study the durability of Polypropylene fiber concrete, indoor artificial methods were used to simulate dry-wet cycle and deicer-frost damage. The results indicated that amounts of polypropylene fibers increase the flexural strength of concrete slightly. The chloride penetration depth increased as the cycles of dry-wet was increased, adding 0.1% PPF into concrete have the prefect resistance of Cl- penetration. Under salt freezing cycle, the deicer-scaling resistance of concrete is reduced by the addition of Polypropylene fiber. The corner of concrete has the largest Cl- penetration area.

Self Compacting Concrete (SCC) is concrete with high fluidity so that it can flow and fill the spaces in the mold without the compaction process. This study discusses the effect of the adding of kaolin and polypropylene fibers in order to increase the flowability, compressive strength, flexural strength, and tensile strength in self-compacting concrete. The additional material of kaolin was 5%, 10%, and 15% of the cement weight. The polypropylene fibers were 1%, 1.5%, and 2%. The flowability test, which was used, was Table flow, V-Funnel, and L-Box. Compressive strength testing was conducted when the concrete was 7, 14, and 28 days old. The flexural test was performed with a measurement of 150 x 150 x 600 mm as many as 18 specimens tested at the age of 28 days. The results showed that the addition of kaolin and polypropylene fibers met the flowability specifications of self-compacting concrete. The addition of polypropylene can increase the flexural strength and tensile strength of the concrete beam, but cannot increase the compressive strength of self-compacting concrete.

With numerical modeling in meso level, impaction of incorporating polypropylene fibers with two different geometry dimensions on flexural strength and toughness of hybrid fiber concrete has been studied in this paper. Mechanism of such hybrid fiber reinforcement has also been analyzed. The results show that hybrid of fibers with different geometric dimensions would bring about synergy, thus fiber enhancement effect could be demonstrated. Furthermore, the closer the incorporation ratio of these two kinds fibers are to each other, the more evident the enhancement will be produced. The most optimized hybrid ratio is in between 2:1 and 1:1.

This paper presents a study of the resistance to chloride penetration of blended Portland cement mortar containing thermoplastic waste polymer polyethylene terephthalate (TWPET). Composite TWPET-mortars are often presented as the materials of the future in reason of their potential for innovation and advantages that offer. In fact, the use of TWPET percentages as a cement substitution reduces energy costs; address problems related to environmental pollution by CO2 emissions and repairs various reinforced concrete structures. Blended Portland cement (CPJ) is partially replaced with TWPET at the amounts of 2%, 4% and 6% by weight of cementitious materials. Chloride penetration depth of full and partial immersions in 3% NaCl solution, rapid chloride permeability test (RCPT) after 28, 90 and 120 days, sorptivity, leaching test and flexural strength of thermoplastic-mortar composites (TMCs) were determined. Test results reveal that the resistance to chloride penetration of TMCs improves substantially with partial replacement of CPJ with TWPET and without significantly affecting the flexural strength in tap water. The chemical resistance is higher with an increase in the replacement level. So, sorptivity, the chloride ion penetration depth, apparent chloride ion diffusion coefficient, the total charge passed in coulombs and leached depth measurements of the TMCs are much smaller than those of reference mortar. The formations which appear such as different calcium salts were determined by X-ray diffraction. These results take into account the use of waste plastics in the manufacture of mortars modified which can be both recommended for preventing the chloride-induced corrosion of the steel in various reinforced concrete structures and participate greatly in the environment preservation.

The present work investigates the use of an alumino-silicate material, the pyrophyllite as cement substitution, synthetic polypropylene fibers and binder to create an unusual ultra-performance fiber concrete; new composite, which offers a wide field of possible use in construction industry. Effect of pyrophyllite on the physical-mechanical properties is analyzed. One reference fiber concrete without pyrophyllite and three fiber concretes containing 10%, 20%, 30% of pyrophyllite were elaborated. Results show that the pyrophyllite affects the characteristics of the concrete. Indeed, in the hardened state, the density of fiber concrete decreased with pyrophyllite rate increasing. Moreover, the use of pyrophyllite slows down the hardening process of concrete, consequently producing at early ages, compressive, flexural and tensile strengths and elastic modulus of concretes approaching without exceeding those of the reference fiber concrete. The fiber concretes are also considered to be of good quality. It seems that the rate of 10 % of pyrophyllite generates the best physical-mechanical performances that approach those of the reference fiber concrete. The use of pyrophyllite as a cement substitution is beneficial since it can help to decrease the production of cement; the amount of CO2 released and protects the environment.

The effect of adding polypropylene fibers; with different shapes and volume fractions; on the compressive strength, modulus of rupture, load-deflection curve and flexural toughness (equivalent flexural strength ratio) of concrete was investigated. Crimped and twisted polypropylene fibers were used with 0.0%, 0.2%, 0.4% and 0.6% volume fractions. It was found that the compressive strength, flexural strength and the equivalent flexural strength ratio of concrete increased about 11%, 25% and 40% respectively by adding 0.6% volume fraction of twisted polypropylene fiber. In addition; it was found that the contribution of polypropylene fiber to the flexural strength and flexural toughness was more effective when twisted polypropylene fiber was added comparing to crimped polypropylene fibers. The experimental results were used in numerical example using FAARFIELD program to explore the airfield pavement thickness reduction resulted from polypropylene fiber incorporation.

One of the development of concrete technology in construction’s world is Self-Compacting Concrete. Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC) is an innovative concrete that able to “flow” and condensed by gravity and its own weight with little vibration or even without a vibration device at all. However, these concrete still have deficiencies like general concrete that is weak to tensile. To increase the tensile strength of the concrete is by adding fiber into the mix. One type of fiber that can be used as an additive to the mix is Polypropylene fibers. This study aims to determine the effect of adding polypropylene fibers to the mechanical properties and characteristics of SCC concrete and to know the optimal polypropylene fiber content in the manufacture of Self Compacting Concrete. Fiber addition variations are 0 kg / m3; 0.25 kg / m3; 0.5 kg / m3 and 0.75 kg / m3. The result of the research showed that the variation of 0.5 kg / m3 and 0.75 kg / m3 addition of fibers didn’t fulfill the requirements to be categorized as a SCC concrete. The results of hard concrete test showed the highest compressive strength that is on the SCC PP concrete of 22.31 MPa at the age of 1 day and 46.24 at the age of 28 days. The highest strength is on the SCC 0.25 PP concrete of 6.52 MPa at the age of 1 day and 10.07 at the age of 28 days. The highest flexural strength is on the SCC 0.25 PP concrete of 6.76 at the age of 1 day and 8.60 at the age of 28 days.

Aimed to solve the problem that the mass concrete structures are apt to crack in underground engineering, this paper makes some research from the view of crack resistance performance of polypropylene fiber concretes. Since polypropylene fiber achieves waterproof through realizing of crack resistant, blending polypropylene fibers into concretes can reduce early contraction deformation of concretes, hinder emergence of plastic shrinkage cracking and improve impermeability of concretes, and its construction technology is simple. In practical application of this in anti-cracking and anti- seepage concrete structures in the International Terminal project of Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport, we find that mix of polypropylene fibers with concretes clearly improves anti-cracking and anti-seepage performance of concrete structures and meets design requirements of basements through measuring temperature and observing cracking condition of the mass concrete structures of basements on site. The project can provide experience for reference to similar projects.

In the present paper the behavior of mortar reinforced with polypropylene fibers was studied. Different percentages of polypropylene fibers such as 0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6 and 0.8% as volumetric fractions were used. Different properties which are flowability, density, compressive strength, flexural strength and splitting tensile strength were evaluated for all mix combinations. The experimental results indicated that a reduction in flowability was obtained with increased polypropylene fibers content. Besides, it can be concluded that the incorporation of polypropylene fiber may significantly reduce the density of mortar. The use of low volume fraction of polypropylene fiber improves the mechanical properties of HPM. Thus, the use of 0.2% of such fiber increases compressive strength by about (4-10%), at various ages.

This investigation aims to improve some of the mechanical properties of concrete such as compressive strength, flexural strength, and modulus of elasticity, by using different percentages of polypropylene fibers, and also studying the durability of concrete for freeze-thaw cycles. the study shows a small increment in compressive strength due to adding fibers which were 28.3% compared with increment in flexural strength which was perfect (about 191%), modulus of elasticity also increased by adding fibers. The durability of concrete against freezing-thaw cycles for all mixes was studied. Fiber-reinforced concrete shows more durability against freezing-thawing cycles and less reduction in strength compared with reference mixes without fibers,21.5% reduction in strength for optimum polypropylene fiber concrete while the reduction in strength for normal concrete was found 54.2% in this study.

The Badong highway bridge over the Yangtze River is a grand bridge in Enshi, Hubei Province of China. Its deck pavement consists of C40 polypropylene fiber concrete, 100 millimeters thick. Experiments show that C40 concrete incorporating polypropylene fibers at dosage of 1.35 kg/m3 has the excellent properties against cracking, permeation, impact, wearing, etc. Thus polypropylene fiber concrete as deck pavement can extend service life of the deck and decrease the maintenance cost and traffic inconvenience for reparation. It can be widely applied in construction of deck pavement and road pavement.
