The Composite based on CIIR and variable sulfur/accelerator ratio were prepared by compounding and vulcanizing process. Tensile properties and dynamic mechanical properties of CIIR were studied. The results indicate that tensile strength and loss factor are influenced by sulfur/ accelerator ratio. Tensile strength and modulus are improved with increasing sulfur/accelerator ratio while loss factor decrease with increasing sulfur/ accelerator ratio.

The basic and dynamic mechanical properties and thrermal conductivity of rubber composites filled with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and various particle-sized carbon blacks (CB) were investigated. Results indicated that tear strength and modulus at a definite elongation of rubber composites filled with CNTs were enhanced compared to the conventional CB filler. However, tensile strength and elongation at break became lower. Thermal conductivity of rubber composites partly filled with CNTs is higher than those filled with CB. Rubber filled with the combination of CNTs and the bigger CB particles was beneficial to improve wet-resistant performance and roll resistance of elastomer such as tire.

In order to study the dynamic mechanical properties of styrene–acrylic latex with a core/shell structure, a variety of latexes were synthesized by semi-continuous seeded emulsion polymerization based on “particle design” with the same material. The latexes were characterized by rotary viscosimeter, dynamic light scattering (DLS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), transmission electron microscope (TEM), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), and universal testing machine. The effects of difference at the glass transition temperature (Tg) of core and shell and the introduction of the “transition layer” on the damping and mechanical properties of latex film were studied. The results indicate that as the Tg of core and shell gets closer, the better the compatibility of core and shell, from phase separation to phase continuity. Furthermore, the introduction of the “transition layer” can effectively improve the tensile strength and tan δ (max) of the latex film. The tensile strength and maximum loss factor (f = 1 Hz) of latex with the “transition layer” increased by 36.73% and 29.11% respectively compared with the latex without the “transition layer”. This work provides a reference for the design of emulsion for damping coating.

In this paper, a three-phase composite with electrically conductive carbon black (ECCB) and piezoelectric ceramic particles, PMN, embedded into butyl (PMN/ECCB/IIR) was prepared by simple blend and mold-press process. Dynamic mechanical properties with various ECCB loading were tested by dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). DMA shows that the ECCB loading has remarkable effect on the dynamic mechanical properties of the three-phase composite. The temperature range of loss factor (tanδ) above 0.3 the composite was broadened by almost 100°C and the maximum of loss factor shifts to higher temperature in the testing temperature range respectively with increasing the ECCB loading. The piezoelectric damping theory was used to explain the experimental results. The three-phase composites with proper composition can be used as high damping polymer materials.

BR/MgO composites were prepared with seven kinds of particle sizes of MgO filled respectively. Effects of particle sizes on dynamic mechanical properties, vulcanization characteristics and physical properties of BR/MgO composites were studied. The results showed that the tensile strength of composites filled nanoscale of MgO was nine times of pure BR, and the vulcanization time was significantly shorter than that of composites filled with micron grade filler. The RPA experiments proved that the composites filled with MgO of 20nm and 50nm have greatly higher G', and that the G'of the composites increase markedly while the value of tanδ decrease sharply with given temperature above 90 °C increasing. the higher value of tanδ at the frequency mode, and the obvious Payne effect compared with the composites filled micron grade of MgO

Polyurethane (PU) with mixed poly(ethylene glycol) / poly(ε-caprolactone) (PEG/PCL) soft segments is a representatively kind of degradable polyurethane material. Polyurethane foams (PUF) with mixed PEG/PCL soft segments were synthesized by using one pot method, and their mechanical and dynamic mechanical properties were investigated. Influences of PEG/PCL weight ratio and molecular weight of soft segments on PUF's mechanical and dynamic mechanical properties were studied. The results showed that: with increasing content of PCL, PUF's tensile strength, elongation at break, stress at certain tensile/compressive strain and storage modulus increased gradually; with increasing molecular weight of soft segment, PUF's elongation at break increased, but tensile strength, stress at certain tensile/compressive strain and storage modulus all decreased accordingly; glass transition temperature (Tg) of PUF with various soft segments decreased according to the following sequence: PEG-400, PCL-210N, PEG-1000 and PTMG1000; loss factor of PUF with PEG/PCL mixed soft segments was higher than that of PUF with individual PEG or PCL soft segments.
