This article discusses the impact of fabric structure on the heather effect of fabric woven by warp and weft with different colors. The yarns with different Lightness(L), Chroma(C) and hue angle (h) are respectively used as warp and weft, and a series of eight satin weaves are attained by strengthening weave points with interval-by-point approach, and taken as test samples. L1, C1 and h1 of each sample are measured by Optoelectronic integration color measurement instrument, and make a comparison with the theoretical values of L0, C0 and h0, which are calculated by two-color mixing principle of CIE standard Chromaticity. The result shows that: the relationship between fabric color and the percentage of color threads is in accordance with Glassman principle. However, the improvement in Lightness is slightly, the decrease in Chroma is significantly, and the change in hue angle is negligible. The more severe the degree of thread flexion is, the more obvious impact on heather effect.

The fabrics made of different color values of Lightness (L), Chromaticity (C) and hue angle (h) of warp and weft silks were designed to testify color mixing. According to Glassman’s two-color adding and mixing principle, theoretical values of L0, C0 and h0 for all yarns were calculated. After all yarns were weaved, L1, C1 and h1’s value of each fabric were measured by ultrascan PRO of Optoelectronic integration color measurement instrument. The differences between measured and theoretical values expressed by ΔL, ΔC and Δh were calculated. ΔL, ΔC and Δh characteristics were analyzed and the relationship between ΔL, ΔC and Δh and the colors of warp and weft were discussed. The effects of the relative portion of warp and weft silks, the collection and distribution of interweave points, the uniformity of organized points’ distribution on color mixing based on the measured and theoretical values of fabric were further investigated.

Numerous studies have been conducted to explore the individual effects of organizational culture (OC) and supply chain management (SCM) practices on organizational performance (OP) in different settings. The aim of this study is to investigate the impact of OC and SCM on OP. The sample of the study consisted of 93 manufacturing firms in Jordan. Data were collected from employees and managers from different divisions using a reliable and valid measurement instrument. The findings confirm that both OC and SCM practices significantly predict OP. The current study is significant in reliably testing the relationship between SCM practices and OP; however, it is necessary to consider cultural assumptions, values and beliefs as the impact of OC on OP is greater than the impact of SCM practices. Based on the results, future studies should consider the moderating and mediating role of OC on the relationship between SCM practices and OP.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine the role of mentor beliefs about effort related to the knowledge and learning process on their extent of mentoring at work, and to determine the role that the mentor’s perception of psychological safety plays in tempering this relationship. Design/methodology/approach – This study was conducted at an 820-member organization maintenance and operations organization consisting of a number of professions in which apprenticeship-style learning is prevalent. Data collection resulted in 570 members self-identifying as having mentored a less experienced colleague. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to confirm that the measurement instrument represents one unified factor, and a structural equation modelling approach was used to assess the relationships among the study’s latent variables. Findings – Results reveal that mentors who hold sophisticated effort-oriented beliefs are more likely to offer psychosocial support to their protégés. Further, although the relationship between effort-oriented beliefs and vocational support is not significant, the mentor’s perception of a psychologically safe work environment significantly moderates both sets of relationships. Research limitations/implications – As approximately 88 per cent of respondents work in service, as opposed to administrative groups, caution should be exercised in generalizing this study’s findings to the general workforce population. Further, the present study did not differentiate mentors who identified a current or previous subordinate as their protégé from those whose protégés were not a subordinate, nor did the authors differentiate formal from informal mentoring relationships. Thus, further investigation is needed to determine whether our hypothesized relationships differ in any unique manifestations of mentoring relationships at work. Practical implications – By providing a better understanding of the relationship between effort-oriented beliefs and mentoring at work, this study may help in the design of more effective mentoring relationships and ultimately enhance knowledge management and workplace learning. Originality/value – There is no previous research that investigates how one’s cognitions about the effort associated with the knowledge and learning process, in particular, influence mentoring at work. This study provides a model for understanding and developing enhanced mentoring relationships, which are considered a critical element of organizational learning.

The results presented in this study related the factor of organizational culture with innovation for the development of small tourist businesses (SMEs) in the municipality of Caborca, Sonora. For which an exploratory analysis of the model, was made to subsequently analyze the Association of variables through the model of the Chi-square and thus be able to check the predictive and explanatory power of the same by means of Probit and Logit analysis. The collection of data was used as measurement instrument a structured questionnaire was administered to managers or entrepreneurs of tourism SMEs in the municipality of Caborca, Sonora. Where was the reliability of the instrument for measuring, the R² and significance of the model Chi square statistical analysis was used to identify the relationship and association between the variables of the proposed model, obtaining the coefficient Gamma with a strong correlation between the variables, as well as Gamma, Probit and Logit values, acceptable values for the relationship between the dependent variable and the independent variable was observed. A higher rate and robustness of prediction of the variables with acceptable significance was also obtained.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to analyze the importance of the linkage between academia and industry from a business perspective. The analysis focuses on the impact generated from these collaboration programs to promote innovation. Data for the analysis was obtained through a measurement instrument, which allows evaluating multiple dimensions of capacity of absorption as determinants of the innovation. Design/methodology/approach The methodology consisted of the implementation of the measurement instrument for the managers in the companies who were involved in the collaborative projects. From the answers obtained, an analysis of strengths and weaknesses was performed, categorized by absorptive capacity dimensions, satisfaction with linkage relationship and innovative impact. In addition, a comparative exercise is presented with the purpose of learning the position of the Postgraduate Program in Industrial Engineering in México, and finally, an analysis of Spearman’s coefficient was performed to verify whether the linkage influenced innovation for this case study. Findings There is a positive correlation between linkage and innovation. An unexpected finding was the level of satisfaction of the companies that collaborated with the academy and the real situation of each dimension to determine the improvements in the policies and mechanisms of linkage. Research limitations/implications One of the main challenges of this paper was to identify and contact the managers of the projects. These projects have been performed and completed in several companies from 2011 to date. Over this time, some managers have changed their employment status and even their places of residence. Therefore, establishing contact and performing interviews with the managers directly linked to each project was a complex process. Originality/value This is the first paper that demonstrates and measures the relationship between linkage and innovation through an instrument of absorptive capacity, which determines the behavior of each dimension where strengths and weaknesses of collaboration relationships are detected and determines the punctual impact on innovation from the perspective of the businessmen involved.

In order to facilitate the design of a hybrid filament before spinning, a k-m (Kubelka-Munk) iteration model was proposed, which was based on the calculation method for reflectance of a translucent object and needed to be used in conjunction with a fabric model that can reflect the arrangement order of monofilaments. Therefore, the model can not only calculate the color of each point on the fabric surface, but also the mixed color of the fabric. Twenty fabrics with five different blending ratios of black monofilaments and white monofilaments, four multifilament fineness and three fabric weave types were woven. The relationship between the gray distribution of all points on the fabric surface captured by the camera in a DigiEye colorimeter and calculated by the k-m iteration model was analyzed, and the color difference between the mixed color of the fabric tested by the Datacolor spectrophotometer and that calculated by the k-m iteration model was calculated. The results show that the intersection distance and Pearson correlation coefficient between the gray histogram of the photographed fabric image and that of the calculated fabric image were 0.79 and 0.89, respectively. The average color difference obtained by the k-m iteration model was 0.92 Color Measurement Committee (2:1) units, which was best compared with the calculation results of other models. By discussing the fabric structure parameters causing the lightness difference, it was concluded that the calculated lightness was smaller than the measured lightness difference for fabric with a longer float length, smaller multifilament fineness and a larger black monofilament blending ratio.

The maintenance of optimal storage conditions for fresh produce is rarely achieved in commercial cool chains. The impact of deviations for short time periods from these optimal storage conditions on fruit quality has not been thoroughly investigated. In this study, ‘Cripps Pink’ apples (Malus domestica) stored at 0 °C in air were exposed to periods at 20 °C (for 1, 3, and 6 days) to simulate breaks in the cool chain. The influence of harvest maturity, storage time before exposure, length of exposure, and multiple exposures to 20 °C on fruit physiology during and after the exposures was monitored through 27 laboratory-based scenario simulations. Preclimacteric apples exposed to 20 °C hastened climacteric development, whereas postclimacteric apples were induced to produce ethylene at ≈1.5 times the normal on return to cool storage at 0 °C irrespective of the fruit harvest maturity or timing, length, and number of exposures to 20 °C. The observed increase in ethylene production did not increase rates of reduction of either fruit stiffness (a measure of flesh texture) or background color measurement (hue angle). This research suggests that fluctuations in temperature have a greater effect in terms of changes in quality for preclimacteric apples than postclimacteric fruit. The reasons why changes in fruit stiffness and background hue angle in postclimacteric fruit did not respond to increases in ethylene production require further investigation.

This article has two purposes: (a) to examine the relationship between intercultural power relations and the widespread practice of accent discrimination and (b) to underscore the ramifications of accent discrimination both for the individual and for global society as a whole. First, authors review social theory regarding language and group identity construction, and then go on to integrate more current studies linking accent bias to sociocultural variables. Authors discuss three examples of intercultural accent discrimination in order to illustrate how this link manifests itself in the broader context of international relations (i.e., how accent discrimination is generated in situations of unequal power) and, using a review of current research, assess the consequences of accent discrimination for the individual. Finally, the article highlights the impact that linguistic discrimination is having on linguistic diversity globally, partially using data from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and partially by offering a potential context for interpreting the emergence of practices that seek to reduce or modify speaker accents.

Abstract Administrators and supervisors face daily challenges over issues such as program funding, service fees, correct coding procedures, and the ever-changing healthcare regulations. Receiving equitable reimbursement for speech-language pathology and audiology services necessitates an understanding of federal coding and reimbursement systems. This tutorial provides information pertaining to two major healthcare coding systems and explains the relationship of these systems to clinical documentation, the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule and equitable reimbursement. An explanation of coding edits and coding modifiers is provided for use in those occasional atypical situations when the standard use of procedural coding may not be appropriate. Also included in this tutorial is a brief discussion of the impact that the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008 (HR 6331 Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act [MIPPA], 2008) has had on the valuation of speech-language pathology procedure codes.

Humans are social animals; consequently, a lack of social ties affects individuals’ health negatively. However, the desire to belong differs between individuals, raising the question of whether individual differences in the need to belong moderate the impact of perceived social isolation on health. In the present study, 77 first-year university students rated their loneliness and health every 6 weeks for 18 weeks. Individual differences in the need to belong were found to moderate the relationship between loneliness and current health state. Specifically, lonely students with a high need to belong reported more days of illness than those with a low need to belong. In contrast, the strength of the need to belong had no effect on students who did not feel lonely. Thus, people who have a strong need to belong appear to suffer from loneliness and become ill more often, whereas people with a weak need to belong appear to stand loneliness better and are comparatively healthy. The study implies that social isolation does not impact all individuals identically; instead, the fit between the social situation and an individual’s need appears to be crucial for an individual’s functioning.
