This paper presents a theoretical analysis on parallel feed LT-MED desalination system with thermal vapor compressor which is helpful to the design and operation of such kind of seawater desalination plant. The mathematical model of a parallel feed LT-MED desalination system with thermal vapor compressor (TVC) is developed on the basis of the mass and energy conservation equations. In the model, the temperature loss is considered caused by the boiling point elevation (BPE) of seawater and the steam flow resistance is also included caused by flowing through tube bundle demisters and pipelines between adjacent evaporators. The property parameters of seawater are taken as the functions of temperature and concentration. A computer program is drawn up to solve the mathematical model. The calculation is based on the system with rated water production 3000 t/d. Taking actual operation into account, the influence of heating steam temperature of the first effect and entrained steam position of TVC on system performance are analyzed. The results show that when other relative parameters are fixed, the gained output ratio (GOR) and the total area of evaporators change slightly with the increasing of the heating steam temperature of first effect under the calculation condition of this paper. The results also demonstrate that there exist suitable entrained steam positions of TVC for the cost of water.

Items supplies planning of a logistic system is one of the major issue in operations research. In this article the aim is to determine how much of each item per month from each supplier logistics system requirements must be provided. To do this, a novel multi objective mixed integer programming mathematical model is offered for the first time. Since in logistics system, delivery on time is very important, the first objective is minimization of time in delivery on time costs (including lack and maintenance costs) and the cost of purchasing logistics system. The second objective function is minimization of the transportation supplier costs. Solving the mathematical model shows how to use the Multiple Objective Decision Making (MODM) can provide the ensuring policy and transportation logistics needed items. This model is solved with CPLEX and computational results show the effectiveness of the proposed model.

This study integrates mathematical model in the plan of producing a fish feed formulation by reducing the total cost without neglecting the nutrient requirements. This study focuses on producing the perfect combination of fish feed for Mystus nemurus sp. catfish in different stages of life. The mathematical model developed will consider their required nutrients in each stage, the cost of each ingredient and the amount of nutrients to be consumed (nutrient composition of fish feed ingredients). This research employs AIMMS mathematical software to assist with the computation. The results from this study obtain a much better combination of different ingredients compared to available commercial pellets in terms of nutrient composition and production cost. The combinations yield much cheaper costs yet boosts up the nutrient consumptions, which is an eye-opener for independent local fish farmers. Thorough discussion on utilizing the results with future research directions will also be included.

This paper presents a mathematical model to simultaneously optimize the cost of electricity and the satisfaction of a residential consumer using the communication infrastructure of a smart grid. For this task the concept of Pareto optimality has been used. It is possible to consider the satisfaction of the consumer as an independent objective to be maximized, and simultaneously, to minimize the cost of the electrical bill. In future works a multiobjective evolutionary algorithm will be applied along with the mathematical model presented in this paper.

The mathematical model of water consumption rate of LongTan Hydropower Station is established in this thesis. With the aim of reaching the minimum total water consumption of power generation, Equation Incremental Rate is used to solve this mathematical model with constant overall load of the hydropower station. Equation Incremental Rate is used in this thesis to solve some instances, prove the rationality of the mathematical model established and demonstrate that the unit load value calculated can direct the actual operation of the hydropower station better, thus the aim of energy saving and consumption reducing can be achieved.

<p>The article presents a method of parallel optimization of structure of sowing areas for the calculation of economic-mathematical models. There models could be applied for traditional and oriented way towards organic production the land use system, characterized by the introduction of an additional unit of environmental criteria restrictions. We supposed that the provision of land suitable for organic production, gross production volume of organic products and the cost of its production. Based on the proposed methodology, the mathematical model proved its effectiveness of the functioning of the zonal agricultural ecosystem "Foothills of Altai". We calculated that the turnover of land suitable for organic production and the level of profitability was of 39.7% against 17.3% at optimization of the structure of sown areas under traditional agricultural production that was subject to full involvement in production of agricultural production.</p><p> </p>

Aims: The problem of effective treatment of HIV-infected patients is an important task of clinical virology and immunology due to the high cost of drugs, the presence of side effects and the need for strict adherence to the schedule of drug intake for patients. Therefore, the urgent task is to develop new approaches to optimize the use of antiretroviral therapy to reduce the cost of treatment and to improve the quality of life for patients. The tasks are addressed to test the hypothesis that the system of therapeutic interruptions in the treatment of HIV infection can give better results (both the duration and comfort of the patient’s life, and the need for fewer drugs) compared with regular medication in standard doses. Methods: In this work, an extended version of the mathematical model of the immune response in HIV infection (proposed in Hadjiandreou et al., 2009) was constructed to take into account the hormonal regulation of the immune response and the impact of antiretroviral drugs on the course of the disease, the calibration of the parameters of the resulting model to match the actual trends of the disease and the search for an optimal treatment strategy. The model is formulated as a system of ordinary differential equations. The therapy optimization is modeled following the structured treatment interruptionapproach using the methods of simulated annealing and the simplex method. The mathematical model and optimization methods are implemented in C ++. Results: It has been shown that in treating HIV-infected patients, it is possible to significantly (up to 3 times) reduce the total amount of required medications simultaneously with an increase in the duration of the period with a high quality of life (due to reducing the intensity of side effects) during antiretroviral therapy. Conclusion: The use of mathematical models and optimization methods opens up the possibility for the implementation of personalized approaches to the treatment of HIV infection, taking into account the side effects, the hormonal status of patients and the cost of drugs.

A simulation of a single-stage evaporator system integrated with a mechanical com- pressor for a case study (concentrating the electrolytic system KNO3 – H2O) was performed. A mathematical model of the subsystem of a single-stage evaporator, a mechanical compressor, and superheated steam seeding is presented. Microsoft Excel with VBA (Visual Basic for Application) was used to solve the mathematical model. The model was solved by an iterative method where the values of the in- let stream temperature and the salt concentration in the concentrated stream at the evaporator outlet were assumed. The process parameters of the system have been determined. Since the goal of any industrial process is to minimize costs and maximize products, the impact of mean temperature difference changes on satu- ration water consumption and molar salt content in the concentrated stream was presented. 106.92 kg/h of freshwater are required to obtain 18% by weight of salt in a concentrated stream, while 432.30 kg/h of fresh water are required to obtain 25% by weight of salt in a concentrated stream. Consumption of heating steam ranged from 1760.31 to 4473.4 kg/h depending on the average temperature dif- ference. By increasing the temperature differences from 10 to 25 ◦C, the amount of transferred upper lines increases from 1025 to 2750 kW, which is an advantage of increasing the mean temperature difference. The disadvantage of the larger tem- perature difference is the increase in the power of the mechanical compressor from 97.02 to 384.12 kW.

When two adjacent surface mines are simultaneously mined in the same direction with a certain relationship of the time and space, the mining arrangement of the former mine will greatly affect the mining plan and economic benefit of subsequent surface mine. In this paper, the optimized mathematical model is established with the mining conditions and economic benefits taken into account. The minimum cost of objective function is analyzed in the condition of considering the different transportation distance with different dumping amount and secondary stripping amount. At the end of this paper a conclusion is drawn that the reasonable dumping level is determined as 1130 based on the annual planning project location and stripping amount, which will reduce the cost of production and smooth the coal mining. Moreover, it is verified by an example to be correct that the mathematical model can be used to solve similar problems of tracing mining or adjacent districts mined in surface mines.
