The layered K2La2Ti3O10photocatalyst was synthesized via a stearic acid method. The structure of the photocatalyst was determined by means of powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope and UV-Vis spectroscopy. The photocatalytic properties for hydrogen evolution of the photocatalyst were examined under ultraviolet irradiation. The results showed that, the sample which synthesized under 1000°C for 2 h via stearic acid method has the highest crystallinity and the amount of photocatalytic hydrogen production activity was 6.43 mmol/(g cat) under UV light irradiation for three hours.

Nanostructured Fe-TiO2 and TiO2 with anatase structure were synthesized via combination method of sol-gel and peptization process. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Transmission emission microscopy (TEM) and UV-Vis spectroscopy (UV-Vis). The presence of Fe3+ ion shifted the absorption profile of TiO2 to the longer wavelength side of the spectrum, indicating an obvious photocatalytic activity under visible irradiation. Photocatalytic activity of the samples were evaluated by methyl orange (MO) discolouration under UV-light irradiation. Compared with the pure TiO2 nanoparticles, the Fe-TiO2 nanoparticles exhibited higher photocatalytic activity with 95% discoloration within 2 h.

La doped ZnO nanorods were synthesized via solvothermal technique using Zn(AC)2 and La(NO3)3 as starting materials. The products were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) equipped with an energy dispersion X–ray (EDX) spectrometer, photoluminescence spectroscopy and UV-vis spectroscopy. The results of XRD in combination with EDS indicated that La was successful doped in ZnO. The obtained La doped ZnO sample exhibited nanorod like morphology and the diameter was about 30 nm. The photocatalytic property of La doped ZnO was evaluated by the variation of the concentration of RhB.

Pd/FeVO4composite photocatalysts were synthesized by the impregnation method. The as-prepared samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD), scanning electron microscopy(SEM).And the obtained samples were characterized by XRD, SEM and BET. The effect of Pd-loaded contents on their photocatalytic activity was studied by photocatalytic oxidation of methyl orange under 20 W UV light irradiation. The mechanism was also analysised. The results show that PdO can remarkably affect the photocatalytic activity. The photocatalyty activity of Pd-loaded FeVO4was significantly enhanced and the decolorization rate of MO can be increased 27% more than that of pure FeVO4sample when loading content is 3.5wt %.

AbstractA new Cu(II) metal-organic framework, [Cu(L)(OBA)·H2O]n (1) [H2OBA = 4,4′-oxybis(benzoic acid), L = 3,5-di(1H-benzimidazol-1-yl)pyridine] was hydrothermally synthesized and characterized through IR spectroscopy, elemental and thermal analysis and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Complex 1 is a four-connected uni-nodal 2D net with a (44·62) topology which shows an emission centered at λ ∼393 nm upon excitation at λ = 245 nm. Moreover, complex 1 possesses high photocatalytic activities for the decomposition of Rhodamine B (RhB) under UV light irradiation.

Intense photoluminescence (PL) has been observed at room temperature from the polycrystalline SiC samples prepared from carbon-saturated Si melt at a temperature ranging from 1500 to 1650°C. Composition and structure of the samples have been confirmed by means of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. PL measurements with 325 nm UV light excitation revealed that the room temperature PL spectrum of the samples consists of 3 luminescent bands, the peak energies of which are 2.38 eV, 2.77 eV and 3.06 eV, respectively. The 2.38 eV band is much stronger than the others. It is suggested that some extrinsic PL mechanisms associated with defect or interface states would be responsible to the intensive PL observed at room temperature.

ZnO nanostructures with different morphology have been successfully fabricated by a simple relative low temperature approach at 90 °C for 5 h without surfactant assistance. These structures can be easily tailed using varied concentrations of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and different amounts of the hydrazine hydrate (N2H4·H2O). X-ray diffraction (XRD) result proves the formation of ZnO with wurtzite structure. Microstructure as revealed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) indicates that the rod-like and chrysanthemum-like ZnO nanostructures contain many radial nanorods, which grow along the [0001] direction. Furthermore, the as-prepared ZnO nanomaterials exhibit high activity on the photo-catalytic degradation of typical persistent organic pollutants (POPs), indicating that they are promising as semiconductor photo-catalysts.

The phase and microstructure of four kinds of plasma sprayed TiO2 coatings (P25, ST, NK, KT) were characterized by XRD (X-ray Diffraction), FE-SEM (Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope) and TEM ( Transmission Electron Microscopy). Their photocatalytic properties were discussed in relation to phase composition and microstructure. The FE-SEM observation results reveal that there are quite a number of nanoparticles on the surfaces of all four kinds of plasma sprayed TiO2 coatings, which provide photocatalytic reactive sites. Based on the observation results of FE-SEM and TEM, the microstructure schematic of plasma sprayed TiO2 coatings using nanoparticles as feedstock is suggested. The best photocatalytic property of P25 coating among the four plasma sprayed TiO2 coatings is attributed to the combination of its fine “cauliflower” structure and the highest anatase content.

A TiO2 photocatalyst with peony-like microstructures and a large percentage of exposed {001} facets was synthesized using a facile solvethermal method. The peony-like TiO2 was obtained using HF as a capping agent, TiCl4 as the precursor and ethanol as the solvothermal agent. The parameters which influence the mophology and formation mechanism of the products including the HF concentration, the reaction time and temperature and the solvothermal solvent, were investigated. The samples were characterized using field emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and N2 adsorption and desorption analysis. As the reaction time or reaction temperature increased, the morphology TiO2 changed from hexagonally assembled microspheres to peony-like microflowers which were composed of stacks of ultrathin nanosheets. The other reaction parameters also play a crucial role in the formation of the TiO2 microstuctures. Photocatalytic experiments showed that the synthesized TiO2 outperformed Degussa P25 in the photodegradation of methelene blue under a very weak UV light irradiation (power: 8[Formula: see text]W, light intensity: 0.4[Formula: see text]mW[Formula: see text]cm[Formula: see text]).

Hierarchical TiO 2/carbon nanocomposites were synthesized by oxidation of two-dimensional (2D) Ti 3 C 2 nanosheets at different temperatures. Crystal structures and morphologies of the obtained samples were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Raman spectroscopy. The results show that 2D Ti 3 C 2 nanosheets are partially oxidized to form a novel hierarchical nanostructure which is composed of carbon nanosheets and TiO 2 nanoparticles. With the calcination temperature increasing, the crystal structure of TiO 2 nanoparticles changes from anatase to rutile and the hierarchical structure was gradually destroyed. The photodegradation results reveal that the samples obtained at 200°C and 285°C show much better photocatalytic properties than P25. And meanwhile the photocatalytic property will become worse with the increase in calcinations temperature.

Based on X-ray diffraction results, the gallery height of modified Mg3Al-LDH was expanded to 9.6Å from the original 4.8Å, indicating that the H3PW12O40 was indeed inserted into the hydroxide layers. Moreover, the results of FT-IR spectra proved the Keggin structure of PW11O397- species. The resulting material showed a high activity of degradation of methyl orange in the presence of H2O2 and UV light irradiation.
