Capability of adsorption on the sand and anti-swelling resistance were studied. The results showed that the best polymerization conditions as follows, reaction temperature was 60 °C, reaction time was 6 h, the rate of charge of epichlorohydrin toβ-hydroxy alkyl propyletheramine was 2.5:1. Under these conditions , the cationic degree of PEA was 3.962 mmol/g, epoxy value was 0.12. Then it was performed the water absorption.

In this investigation, Schiff bases aluminum complex was synthesized and used as the initiator in the polymerization of D,L-lactide. The aluminum complex was characterized by infrared spectroscopy (IR), and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR). The influences of different factors, including reaction time, reaction temperature, and the ratio of D, L-lactide/Al3+ on the synthesis of polylactide were described. The results showed that Schiff bases aluminum complex could be successfully applied in the ring opening polymerization. The optimum condition of the ring opening polymerization of D,L-lactide, which included D,L-lactide/Al3+ (mol/mol) ratio of 250, reaction temperature of 120 °C, and reaction time of 16 hours.

Poly(bis(2-(trimethylamino)ethyl) 2-hydroxyl propylidene ammonium) chloride (PTMAEPAC) is one kind of oligomeric cationic polymer with a quarter nitrogen atom on its main and side chain. It was synthesized from Bis(2-trimethyl ammonium)ethyl ammonium chloride (TMAEAC) and epichlorohydrin (ECH) by copolymerization reaction, effects of reaction temperature, mole ratio of raw materials, reaction time, amount of solvent on the cationicity of product were studied. The structure of PTMAEPAC was confirmed by IR and 1H-NMR, and its anti-clay-expanding ability was studied. The results show that the cationicity of PTMAEPAC can reach 83.9% with the reaction time of 6h at 65°C when TMAEAC-to-ECH mole ratio is 1.2:1 and the amount of solvent is 30% in total. According to the IR and NMR analysis the product has the same structure with the aim compound. When the content of the product is 3 wt% it has a good anti-clay-expanding ratio of 96.1%.

In polymer chemistry, polyol usually used as starting materials for polyurethane (PU) production in which upon reacted with isocyanate will affect the physical and chemical properties of the obtained PU. Polyols that are mostly derived from petrochemical resources are facing issues such as depletion of petroleum sources as well as the increasing in market price. Ring opening reaction (ROR) of epoxidized palm oil (EPO) had been carried out using isopropanolamine (IPA) to impart polyol with amine functionality. The effect of reaction time on the opening of oxirane ring was investigated. FTIR spectra showed that the oxirane ring opening of EPO can occur at 6 hours reaction time, corresponding to the deacreasing intensity of  oxirane COO twin band at 824-830 cm-1. The OH value of the amine- functionalized-polyol was calculated at around 240-253 mg KOH/g. By prolonging the reaction time the OH value has slightly reduced. Mass spectroscopy analysis revealed that the polyol has a molecular weight in the range of oligo-polyols (400 – 500 Da).

Polyol was successfully synthesized from used palm oil (UPO) via epoxidation and ring opening reaction. The mole ratio of UPO: formic acid: hydrogen peroxide was 0.3: 8: 1.5. The reaction had been continuously stirred at 400 rpm at 65°C with varied reaction time for 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, and 4.0 h. The chemical structure of modified used palm oil (MUPO) or polyol was confirmed by 1H-NMR. OH number of polyols increased with an increase reaction time. Moreover, the preliminary study for the preparation of MUPO-based polyurethane (PU) foam was performed. A new MUPO-based PU foam was successfully prepared and theirs foam behaviors were investigated.

The tri-n-octylmethyl-ammonium methyl carbonate was synthesized via a high pressure process with tri-n-octylamine(tri-C8) and dimethyl carbonate(DMC) in the catalysis of tri-n-octylmethyl-ammonium bromine, and its chemical structure was confirmed using FTIR spectroscopic analysis. The influence of reactants molar ratio, reaction temperature, solvent, catalyst and reaction time on the quaternization reaction were examined, and the optimal conditions were that dimethyl carbonate(DMC):tri-n-octylamine(tri-C8)=5.6:1(molar:molar), methanol:tri-n-octylamine (tri-C8)=1:2 (volume:volume), catalysts 5% of the weight of reactant mixtures(materials fraction), reaction temperature 110°C and reaction time 8 h. Under the optimum conditions, the highest conversion rate of tri-n-octylamine(tri-C8) could reach 99.57%. A type of SO42- quaternary ammonium salt was prepared by the reaction between the product and H2SO4, and its properties on extracting vanadium in the feed solution from autoclave-soda leach solution of stone coal was researched, demonstrating that with 8% the type of SO42- quaternary ammonium salt(QAS) and 5% sec-octyl alcohols dissolved in 87% sulphonated kerosene as extractant (volume fraction), the saturated loading capacity for V2O5 reaches 14.32 g/L.

A novel modified walnut shell (TWNS) was prepared through sequentially reacting the walnut shell (WNS) with thionyl chloride and triethylamine in N-methyl pyrrolidone to remove Reactive Brilliant Blue from dye wastewater. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to characterize the TWNS. The effects of different experimental conditions such as the reaction temperature, the reaction time, the dosage of thionyl chloride and triethylamine on the quaternary ammonium grafting percentage of TWNS have been studied. The results reveal the quaternary ammonium grafting percentage (Y) is up to 18.37% when the dosage of thionyl chloride (V1) is 35 mL, the reaction time (t1) is 3 h in the first step reaction; the dosage of triethylamine (V2) is 40 mL, the reaction temperature (T) is 80°C and the reaction time (t2) is 12 h in the second step reaction.
