The new CERN Single-Sign-On (SSO), built around an open source stack, has been in production for over a year and many CERN users are already familiar with its approach to authentication, either as a developer or as an end user. What is visible upon logging in, however, is only the tip of the iceberg. Behind the scenes there has been a significant amount of work taking place to migrate accounts management and to decouple Kerberos [1] authentication from legacy Microsoft components. Along the way the team has been engaging with the community through multiple fora, to make sure that a solution is provided that not only replaces functionality but also improves the user experience for all CERN members. This paper will summarise key evolutions and clarify what is to come in the future.

Interactive TV has started to penetrate broadcasting markets, providing a new user experience through novel services to subscribers and new revenue opportunities for companies. Personalization and intelligent behavior, such as proactive content delivery are considered key features for the services of the future TV. However, most of the work in this area is limited to personalization of electronic program guides and advanced program recommendation. In this article, the authors adopt a more horizontal approach and describe the application of concepts, practices and modern Web trends to the TV domain in the context of the POLYSEMA platform. A key characteristic of this approach is the formal modeling of multimedia and user semantics that enables novel TV services. Specifically, Semantic Web methodologies are employed (e.g., ontologies and rules) while compatibility with the MPEG-7 standard is also pursued. The paper describes the overall architecture of the platform, provides implementation details and investigates business issues.

Electronic Commerce (e-commerce) has transformed the retail environment and has become an ever increasingly important channel of the global economy. Within this, fashion retail has been a driving force, with increasing brand growth and profit deriving through Mobile Commerce (m-commerce). While the high-street fashion retailers have been key drivers and innovators in creating engaging and persuasive m-commerce app offerings, the high end and luxury fields have to date been slow to adopt and innovate at a comparable rate. This chapter explores the history and meaning of luxury and branding, in relation to the current state of m-commerce in fashion. Specific reference is given to the current state of m-commerce design in the retail domain between luxury and high-street market levels. Key questions and leading developments in the realm of interaction and User Experience (UX) design are presented along with directions on how to design for luxury m-commerce interactions.

This chapter examines the problems related to the international taxation of electronic commerce and identifies the alternative solutions that have been adopted in the current fiscal framework. The results obtained demonstrate the proposed models of e-commerce taxation based on existing international legislation, notably origin-based taxation, tax withheld at source and technology based solutions. This study argues that any legislative change should be implemented by a number of countries or through international efforts to harmonize practices, and sets out the future directions in the taxation of e-commerce. This chapter contributes to the scientific knowledge to accounting and tax research on the taxation of e-commerce.

Many of the current issues with Information Privacy have been the result of inadequate consideration for privacy during the planning, design and implementation of Information Systems and communication networks. The area of Quantum Computation is still in its infancy, and a truly functional quantum computer has not been implemented. However, it is anticipated that within the next decade it may be feasible. This presents a unique opportunity to give due consideration to Information Privacy in the realm of future quantum computational devices and environments while they are still in their infancy. This chapter provides an overview of the key Information Privacy issues that the authors feel may arise with the evolution and realization of quantum computation. Additionally they propose an integrated approach of technical, legal and social elements to address these issues.
