In this work, Na2O-Al2O3-BaO-CaO-Sb2O3-B2O3-SiO2 glasses doped with Er3+ was prepared and investigated for their physical, optical and visible luminescence properties. The increases in density, refractive index and molar volume of the glasses with additional doping content of Er2O3 into the network were due to a higher molecular weight and polarizability of Er2O3 in comparison with the glass former (SiO2 and B2O3). Ten absorption peaks were observed as a nature of Er3+ absorption in glass matrices. The glass exhibited four emission transitions which were assigned to 4F5/2→4I15/2 (460 nm), 4F7/2→4I15/2 (487 nm), 2H11/2→4I15/2 (522 nm) and 4S3/2→4I15/2 (545 nm) transitions. The strongest intensity was the green emission at 522 nm. The luminescence intensity was found to increase with Er2O3 content up to 4 mol% and it was decreased for higher Er2O3 contents due to concentration quenching effect.

The samarium-doped lithium-gadolinium borate [60Li2O:10Gd2O3:(30-x) B2O3:xSm2O3] (LGBO:Sm3+) glasses have been melted and quenched in stainless plate under an air atmosphere. Some physical and optical properties within wavelength concerned and photoluminescence of the LGBO:Sm3+glasses were measured and discussed. The density of glasses dropped until 0.10 mol% and tends to increase after that point, while molar volume of the glasses tends to increase with concentration of Sm2O3.. In absorption spectra, there are 2 obvious peaks in UV-VIS range and 6 peaks in NIR range indicating the Sm3+in glass matrices. The sharpness of a peak, in the absorption spectra, also increases with concentration of the dopant. The 7 obvious peaks in excitation spectra represent the transitions from the ground state6H5/2to various excited states. Furthermore, The emission spectra were observed under 404 nm light from the Xenon compact arc lamps, and showed the concentration quenching effect (CQE) at 1.00 mol% of Sm3+. Additional, The lifetimes showed decreasing trend with concentration of Sm2O3.. As the result, The LGBO:Sm3+glass doped with 1.00 mol% of Sm3+gives the highest result for luminescence properties.

Er3+ ions doped bismuth borophosphate glasses are prepared in different concentration by the conventional melting-quenching method at 1200 °C. Physical properties, absorption and luminescence spectra under visible excitation are investigated. The results showed that density of glasses tended to decrease with increasing the concentration of Er2O3. While, the molar volume of glasses tended to increase with increasing the concentration of Er2O3. The optical absorption spectra were clearly observed in ultraviolet (UV), visible light (VIS) and near infrared (NIR) region. Visible emission spectra have been recorded by exciting the glass samples at 326 nm. The strongest intensity was the green emission at 521 nm. The luminescence intensity was found to increase with Er2O3 content up to 0.8 mol% and it was decreased for higher Er2O3 contents due to concentration quenching effect.

In this work, properties of Nd3+ in Gd2O3-CaO-SiO2-B2O3 glass systems with composition 25Gd2O3-10CaO-10SiO2-(55-x)B2O3-xNd2O3 where x = 0.0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5 mol% were investigated. The optical absorption spectra show peaks at 4F3/2 (877 nm) , 4F5/2+2H9/2 (802 nm), 4F7/2+4S3/2 (743 nm), 4F9/2 (682 nm), 2H11/2 (627 nm), 2G7/2 +4G5/2 (582 nm), 4G7/2 +2K13/2 (527 nm), 4G11/2 (481 nm), 2P1/2 (427 nm) and 2L15/2 + 4D1/2 + 1I11/2+ 4D5/2+ 4D3/2 (355 nm) reflecting the Nd3+ ions in glass matrices. The densities were increased with increasing of Nd2O3 concentration. This indicates the increase of the molecular weight by the replacement of B2O3 with a heavier Nd2O3 oxide in the glass. The upconversion luminescence spectra show bands at 393 nm for all Nd2O3 concentration and the strongest intensity from 2.5 % mol of Nd2O3 was obtained. For NIR luminescence, the intensity of Nd3+ emission spectra increases with increasing concentrations of Nd3+ up to 1.5 mol% and beyond 1.5 mol% the concentration quenching is observed.

Various Eu2+-based Ca9Nd(PO4)7 (CNP:xEu2+, with different x values) materials are prepared via facile solid-state reaction. Their crystal structures are investigated in detail by means of the Rietveld refinement. The structure of CNP:Eu2+ with a trigonal lattice is analogous to that of β-Ca3(PO4)2. Therefore, Eu2+ ions tend to incorporate calcium sites in the host. All the obtained samples can be excited using near ultraviolet (nUV) light to present blue-green emission. An optimal dopant concentration is verified at x = 0.8 with a large critical interaction radius (11.21 Å). The mechanism of the concentration quenching effect is assigned to the multipole-multipole interaction. CNP:xEu2+ possesses a short decay lifetime of ∼60 μs and can endure severe working conditions thanks to its great thermal stability. The relative photoluminescence (PL) intensity of CNP:0.8Eu2+ can retain 84.75% of the pristine intensity measured at room temperature, and the relative intensity remains as high as 69.97% at 423 K. The CNP:Eu2+ phosphors also show great performance in the WLED demonstration. The correlated color temperature (CCT) of the prototype device is 3404 K, with an extremely high Ra (97.6). Therefore, CNP:xEu2+ could be regarded as a promising alternative to blue green phosphors in nUV chip-based WLED applications.

AbstractThe red long-lasting phosphors (LLPs) ZnxCa1–xTiO3:yPr3+ (ZCTP) were successfully prepared via the sol–gel method. The effects of Zn2+ content and Pr3+ molar concentration on the luminescent properties of ZCTP LLPs were characterized by X-ray diffraction, excitation and emission spectra, long-lasting decay curves and thermoluminescence (TL) curves. In this study, the results indicated that luminescent properties of Zn0.2Ca0.8TiO3:0.2 %Pr3+ phosphor was the best. In addition, when Pr3+ molar concentration reached 0.8 mol %, concentration quenching effect was obvious.
