In this communication, the use of gallium nitride doped with beryllium as an efficient converter for white light emitting diode is proposed. Until now beryllium in this material was mostly studied as a potential p-type dopant. Unfortunately, the realization of p-type conductivity in such a way seems impossible. However, due to a very intensive yellow emission, bulk crystals doped with beryllium can be used as light converters. In this communication, it is demonstrated that realisation of such diode is possible and realisation of a colour rendering index is close to that necessary for white light emission.

Sm3+, Ce3+ codoped Al2O3–La2O3–SiO2 glasses were prepared and their luminescence properties were characterized. Blue-cyan to orange-red tunable luminescence was observed from these glasses with different excitation wavelengths ranging from 385 to 410 nm. White light emission with internal luminescence efficiency 42% has been observed using commercially available purple light-emitting-diode excitation. The energy transfer between Ce3+ and Sm3+ has also been investigated from fluorescence decay curves and spectral properties.

For this experiment, the main purpose of this experiment is to determine the electroluminescence of PSiNs samples with optimum electrolyte volume ratio of photo-electrochemical anodisation. PSiNs samples were prepared by photo-electrochemical anodisation by using p-type silicon substrate. For the formation of PSiNs on the silicon surface, a fixed current density (J=20 mA/cm2) and 30 minutes etching time were applied for the various electrolyte volume ratio. Volume ratio of hydrofluoric acid 48% (HF48%) and absolute ethanol (C2H5OH), HF48%:C2H5OH was used for sample A (3:1), sample B (2:1), sample C (1:1), sample D (1:2) and sample E (1:3). The light emission can be observed at visible range. The effective electroluminescence was observed for sample C. Porous silicon nanostructures light–emitting diode (PSiNs-LED) has high-potential device for future flat screen display and can be high in demand.

In this work, we report Eu3+/Tb3+/Eu2+ co-activated Gd2O2 S as novel phosphor materials that can be effectively applied in the white-light emitting diode based on a near-UV chip with sensational performances. The luminescent properties and energy transfer mechanism have been thoroughly investigated. The as-prepared europium/terbium co-doped Gd2O2 S phosphors exhibit strong fluorescence with tunable color output under UV-vis light excitation. Furthermore, a high response to ultraviolet illumination of 398 nm wavelength was observed in the excitation spectra, indicating an excellent match with a light-emitting-diode chip in the dominant emissions. It is found that a tricolor (blue, green and red) emission band which results in a white light emission can be acquired when Eu3+, Eu2+ and Tb3+ ions are all co-doped into the single phase Gd2O2S, and an optimum ion doping level (10 at.% Eu and 0.7 at.% Tb) can effectively emit nearly pure white color photoluminescence with lifetime effectively tuned from 0.55 ms to 1.10 ms. The CIE (Commission International de I'Eclairage 1931 chromaticity) is X = 0.3507, Y = 0.3029. It is therefore expected that the newly found phosphor material with high-performance properties possess great potentials for the future advanced white LED applications.

A new luminescent composite film resulting from the dispersion of luminescent organic dyes in a single-layered hydroxide (SLH)-type inorganic matrix has been developed. Two fluorescent organic dyes emitting visible light upon blue LED excitation were investigated in this study: dicyanomethylene (DCM) and pyranine (HPTS). These dyes exhibit broad emission bands that cover a large part of the visible spectrum. The concept developed in our work consisted in keeping SLH in its wet form to ensure a good dispersion of the fluorescent dyes prior to immobilizing the hybrid materials in a silicone polymer to achieve luminescent composite films. We demonstrate that these coatings stacked upon each other and placed above a blue LED lead to white-light emission with suitable photometric parameters for applications in lighting or display devices: colour temperature of 5409 K and colour rendering index (CRI) of 81.

A highly intense yellow-emitting phosphorSr2-xBaxTiO4:Eu3+,Gd3+peaking at 593–611 nm was synthesized by the sol-gel method. XRD and SEM show that the samples are single phase and have irregular shape. The excitation wavelength matches well with that of the emission of the blue-light-emitting diode. The emission peaks at 593 and 611 nm are attributed to the transitions from the5D0-7F1and5D0-7F2ofEu3+ions, respectively.Gd3+was used as sensitizer, aiming at increasing the luminous intensity. A certain amount ofSr2+andBa2+is contributed to the intensity of light emission.
