In this work, we report the sol-gel alkoxide route preparation of nanostructured SiO2 and TiO2 powders as well as TiO2-SiO2 thin films obtained by dip-coating. Thermal analysis, morphology and structure were characterized for powders and correlation between preparation method and optical properties of binary materials (SiO2-TiO2) for thin films was approached. Spectroscopic Ellipsometry (SE), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) have been used for the physical characterization of the films.

AbstractIn this work, we report on the synthesis and characterization of thin films of (BiFeO3)1−x (PbTiO3)x (BFPT) solid solutions of compositions around morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) grown on platinized silicon (111) Pt/TiO2/SiO2/Si substrate by sol-gel based spin coating technique. The films were post-annealed at 700 and 750°C for 1 h in air. Morphological analysis of the films was carried out by scanning electron microscopy. Grazing incidence X-ray diffractometry revealed the perovskite structure of the films and peaks suggested the presence of rhombohedral structured pure BFPT phase in polycrystalline form. Scanning electron microscopy suggested that films annealed at 750degC had a denser microstructure as compared to those at 700°C. The room temperature dielectric constant of the films with composition of BF:PT :: 75:25 was measured to be ∼1200 at a frequency of 100 kHz.

AbstractIn our investigation, V doped SiO2/TiO2 thin films were prepared on glass substrates by dip coating sol-gel technique. Chemical composition of the samples was studied by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Transmittance of the samples was characterized using UV-VIS spectrophotometry. Subsequently band-gap energy (Eg) was estimated for these films. Powders obtained from sols were characterized by FTIR spectroscopy. It was found that vanadium decreases optical band gap of SSiO2/TiO2 films.

A novel fabrication process is presented to create ultra thick ferromagnetic structures in silicon. The structures are fabricated by electroforming NiFe into silicon templates patterned with deep reactive ion etching (DRIE). Thin films are deposited into photoresist molds for characterization of an electroplating cell. Results show that electroplated films with a saturation magnetization above 1.6 tesla and compositions of approximately 50/50 NiFe can be obtained through agitation of the electrolyte. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images show that NiFe structures embedded in a 500 μm thick silicon wafer are realized and the roughening of the mold sidewalls during the DRIE aids in adhesion of the NiFe to the silicon.

Titania or titanium dioxide (TiO2) thin film has been synthesized via sol-gel method with monoethanolamine (MEA) as a catalyst. The mixing of titanium butoxide as a precursor, ethanol as a solvent and MEA were stirred using magnetic stirrer under ambient temperature [. The TiO2solution prepared then was deposited on SiO2substrates using spin-coater and the coated films were annealed at 600°C. Finally, both before and after annealed TiO2thin films were characterized using Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM). The obtained results show the different TiO2particles formation before and after annealed.

ZrO2 thin films containing silver nanoparticles were prepared using the sol-gel method with Ag to Zr molar ratios [Ag]/[Zr] = 0.11, 0.25, 0.43, 0.67, 1.00, 1.50, and 2.33. After dip coating on glass substrate, coated films were annealed at 200 and 300 °C in air. X-ray diffraction peaks corresponding to crystalline Ag were observed, but a specific peak corresponding to ZrO2 was not observed. At the molar ratio [Ag]/[Zr] = 0.25, the particle size of Ag distributed broadly centered at 17 nm for an annealing temperature of 200 °C and at 25 nm for 300 °C. The films annealed in air at 200 °C showed an absorption band centered at 450 nm because of the silver surface plasmon resonance, whereas films heated at 300 °C in air caused a red shift of the absorption to 500 nm. The absorption peak was analyzed using the effective dielectric function of Ag-ZrO2 composite films modeled with the Maxwell-Garnett expression.

Abstract Quaternary semiconductor Cu2NiSnS4 thin film was made by the sol-gel method associated to dip-coating technique on ordinary glass substrates. In this paper, we have studied the impact of dip-coating cycle at different cycles: 4, 5 and 6 on the structural, compositional, morphological, optical and electrical characteristics. CNTS thin films have been analyzed by various characterization techniques including: X-ray diffractometer (XRD), Raman measurements, scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscope (EDS), UV-visible spectroscopy and four-point probe method. XRD spectra demonstrated the formation of cubic Cu2NiSnS4 with privileged orientation at (111) plane. Crystallite size of cubic CNTS thin films increase with from 6.30 to 9.52 with dip-coating cycle augmented. Raman scattering confirmed the existence of CNTS thin films by Raman vibrational mode positioned at 332 cm− 1. EDS investigations showed near-stoichiometry of CNTS sample deposited at 5 cycles. Scanning electron microscope showed uniform surface morphologies without any crack. UV-visible spectroscopy indicated that the optical absorption values are larger than 104 cm− 1, Estimated band gap energy of CNTS absorber layers decrease from 1.64 to 1.5 eV with dip-coating cycle increased. The electrical conductivity of CNTS thin films increase from 0.19 to 4.16 (Ω cm)-1. These characteristics are suitable for solar cells applications.

Al-Cu-Fe quasicrystals powder was used to prepare the thin films on the surface of the A3 steel by the means of DMD-450 vacuum evaporation equipment. The thin films with different characterization were obtained through different parameters. The microstructures of the thin films were analyzed by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD). Additionally, the nano-hardness and the modulus of the films are tested by MTS and Neophot micro-hardness meter. The results showed that the modulus of the films was about 160GPa. Nano hardness of the films was about 7.5 Gpa. The films consisted of CuAl2, AlCu3. The thickness and the micro-hardness of the films are improved. In same way, with the increase of the electric current, the thickness and the hardness of the films are also improved. Along with increase of the time and the electric current, the wear behavior of the films was improved. To some extent, the microstructure of films contained the quasicrystal phase of Al65Cu20Fe15.

In this study, TiO2nanopowder was synthesized via a sol-gel grinding method. The effects of TiO2precursor concentration of TiO2nanopowder were investigated. The TiO2nanopowder obtained were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) for their structural properties. From the calculation of the crystallite size in XRD, the size of the nanoparticles obtained is 49.55 nm at the highest TiO2precursor concentration. In contrast, at the lower concentration of 0.4 molar give the cryatallite size of 12.84 nm. Further, XRD and Raman spectrum results confirmed the TiO2nanopowder obtain composed of only anatase phase. The FESEM micrographs of TiO2nanopowder also were discussed in this paper.
