The high specific strength of the magnesium alloy makes it a valuable choice for automotive, aerospace and sporting industries, where the weight reduction is a critical consideration in design. However, wrought magnesium alloys offer a poor formability at room temperature and a hot working condition is required for the forming process. This paper studies the application of finite element methods for the simulation of the forging of magnesium alloys. Numerical analysis of the forging process of an automotive magnesium wheel is conducted based on the tested flow curve of AZ80. The effect of friction on the final deformation of the upsetting of magnesium billets is also discussed.

Abstract An inverse finite element (FE) algorithm is proposed for sheet forming process simulation. With the inverse finite element analysis (FEA) program developed, a new method for concurrent engineering (CE) design for sheet metal forming product and process is proposed. After the product geometry is defined by using parametric patches, the input models for process simulation can be created without the necessity to define the initial blank and the geometry of tools, thus simplifying the design process and facilitating the designer to look into the formability and quality of the product being designed at preliminary design stage. With resort to a commercially available software, P3/PATRAN, arbitrarily three-dimensional product can be designed for manufacturability for sheet forming process by following the procedures given.

This paper used finite element analysis of metal forming to study the forging process and die design of aluminum alloy brake parts. According to the process parameters and die design, the brake parts were forged by experiment. First, the die design is based on the product size and considering parting line, draft angle, forging tolerance, shrinkage and scrap. Secondly, the finite element analysis of metal forming is used to simulate the forging process of aluminum alloy brake parts. Finally, the aluminum alloy brake levers with dimensional accuracy and surface hardness were forged.

Drilling frame on TD165CH Down-The-Hole Drill that has large slenderness ratio and be longer than 10m is one component of Down-The-Hole drill which is mainly subjected to load.In the process of drilling, drilling frame is not only subjected to loads which are like tensile, compression and torsion and so on, and be under the influence of impacting and vibration of impactor,the situation of force is complicated.By analysing of working condition of Down-The-Hole drill,there get all kinds of limit states of typical working conditions, and then using Ansys doing finite element analysis, there get distribution of the stress and strain of drilling frame and the result of modal analysis to check whether drilling frame meets the requirements of strength and stiffness or not,and whether it is possible to resonate with the impactor or not.By analysis,Structure strength and stiffness of drilling Frame on TD165CH Down-The-Hole drill meet the requirements of practical engineering, and drilling Frame does not resonate with the impactor.

As an important forged part of an automobile, the inner hole of the half-shaft bushing must be formed directly. However, the process requires many steps, and how the forging, or deformation, is spread over the production steps directly affects the die life and forging force required. In this paper, the three steps involved in directly forging a half shaft bushing's inner hole are simulated using the two-dimensional finite element method. Further more, we improve the forging process. From numerical calculation, the improved necessary forging force is found to be only half the original force, and the die life is doubled.

Zur Ausnutzung der hohen spezifischen Festigkeit und folglich Eignung als Leichtbauwerkstoff von EN AW-7075 bedarf es neben den Umform- auch Wärmebehandlungsprozessen, die im Folgenden in den Umformprozess integriert werden und die Prozesskette somit deutlich kürzer und effizienter gestalten. Dieser Fachbeitrag zeigt, welches Produktivitäts- und Leichtbaupotenzial durch eine Inline-Wärmebehandlung erschlossen werden kann.   To be able to exploit the high specific strength and thus suitability of EN AW-7075 as a lightweight construction material, it requires not only forming but also heat treatment processes. The latter become integrated into the forming process and thus make the process chain significantly shorter and more efficient. This paper points out the potential for productivity and lightweight construction to be tapped by inline heat treatment.

The feasibility of forging of AL-1050 alloy of cylindrical heatsink under warm conditions is demonstrated in the present work. The stress-strain curves and friction factor play an important role in the cylindrical heatsink forging. The purpose of forging lubrication is to reduce friction between blank and die, and to decrease resistance of metal flow to die. The stress-strain curves at different temperatures are obtained by compressing tests. The friction factor between 1050 aluminum alloy and die material are determined at different temperatures by ring compression tests with graphite lubricants. The compressing and ring compressing tests are carried out by using the computerized screw universal testing machine. The finite element method is used to investigate the forming characters of the forging process. To verify the prediction of FEM simulation in the cylindrical heatsink forging process, the experimental parameters such as stress-strain curves and fiction factor, are as the input data during analysis. Maximum forging load and effective stress distribution are determined of the heatsink forging, using the finite element analysis. Finally, the cylindrical heatsink parts are formed by the forging machine under the conditions using finite element analysis.
