Abrasion mechanism of thermocouple cannula is studied in this article. For different working position and condition, different material should be selected to ensure the working characteristics of thermocouple cannula. Several protection methods were introduced to prolong the sevice life of thermocouple cannula. 1. M-Al series intermetallic compound coating protection method. 2. Metal/ceramic compound coating protection method. 3. Development of new abrasion-resisting material for high temperature according to some special work conditions of thermocouple cannula. With the adoption of those new technologies, thermocouple cannula’s service life can be prolonged to 3~5 times of that untreated.

Coating blade wears seriously in paper coating process. Wear mechanism was analyzed in this article. A new technology of surface coating process was introduced to increase the hardness of the edge of coating blade and thus to prolong its service life. Surface coating preparing process on blade was studied and metal-ceramic compound coating prepared successfully on the edge of coating blade with AT13 (Al2O3+13%TiO2) wear resistant material by plasma spraying process. NiCrAl alloy powder was used as under coat material. Microstructure of the coating is dense. The coating bonds well with the matrix and have high hardness. Results of grain-abrasion testing show that wear-resisting property of the metal/ceramic compound coating is about 7-8 times as that of steel blade.

A method of forming an Mg/Al intermetallic compound coating enriched with Mg17Al12 and Mg2Al3 was developed by heat treatment of electrodeposition Al coatings on Mg alloy at 350 °C. The composition of the Mg/Al intermetallic compounds could be tuned by changing the thickness of the Zn immersion layer. The morphology and composition of the Mg/Al intermetallic compound coatings were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD). Nanomechanical properties were investigated via nano-hardness (nHV) and the elastic modulus (EIT), and the corrosion behavior was studied through hydrogen evolution and potentiodynamic (PD) polarization. The compact and uniform Al coating was electrodeposited on the Zn-immersed AZ91D substrate. After heat treatment, Mg2Al3 and Mg17Al12 phases formed, and as the thickness of the Zn layer increased from 0.2 to 1.8 μm, the ratio of Mg2Al3 and Mg17Al12 varied from 1:1 to 4:1. The nano-hardness increased to 2.4 ± 0.5 GPa and further improved to 3.5 ± 0.1 GPa. The Mg/Al intermetallic compound coating exhibited excellent corrosion resistance and had a prominent effect on the protection of the Mg alloy matrix. The control over the ratio of intermetallic compounds by varying the thickness of the Zn immersion layer can be an effective approach to achieve the optimal comprehensive performance. As the Zn immersion time was 4 min, the obtained intermetallic compounds had relatively excellent comprehensive properties.

The design and R&D for ITER In-Vessel Coils (IVCs) is being deployed. The concerned issue of “Edge Localized Modes” (ELMs) and “Vertical Stabilization” (VS) of the ITER plasma can be addressed by the implemented IVCs. The ELM and VS coils will be installed in the vessel just behind the blanket shield modules to reach the requirement of keeping strong coupling with the plasma. The 59mm Stainless Steel Jacketed Mineral Insulated Conductor (SSMIC) using MgO as the insulation is being designed for the IVCs to resist the special challenges, including the nuclear radiation, high temperature, electromagnetic and thermal fatigue. It is necessary to take the mechanical performances of the SSMIC and the feasibility of fabrication techniques into consideration of the R&D program. The mechanical performances of the SSMIC close to the actual work conditions, including the three point bend modulus, three point bend cyclical performance and the cyclical performance with a U-bend sample of the SSMIC prototypes have been investigated and the results are presented in this paper.

It is proposed to develop a small spacecraft for an experiment using high-temperature superconductors (HTS) and shape memory materials. The purpose of the experiment is to test a technological capability of creating a strong magnetic field on the small spacecraft using HTS and shape memory materials for deployed large-area structures, and study the magnetic field interaction with the solar wind plasma and the resulting force impact on the small spacecraft. This article is of a polemical character and makes it possible to take a fresh look at the applicability of new technologies in space-system engineering. Key words: high-temperature superconductors, shape memory materials, solar wind, spacecraft.

The cChromic shaped bricks have been used as the refractory lining in alumina kiln for long time, whose service life is about 120~250 days. Besides the short working time, the environmental pollution led to by the chromic component is also serious. In this thesispaper (thesis 是硕士论文), some materials are were chosen based on the actual situation of the usage of the refractory lining in the current alumina kiln. The choosing principals are were the extensive source and the relatively low price. Finally, a new formula of the refractory castable is was acquired based on the orthogonal test and has passed the properties testing.
