The ATIG welding which is the high productivity version of conventional TIG welding, parallel with productivity increasing has some advantageous effect both on HAZ and weld joint grain structure. In this paper the effect of ATIG welding on austenite/ferrite ratio in duplex steel will be represented with experimental results performed on 8 mm thick 2205 type duplex steel. As collateral benefit through these results new evidences are originated to prove the “reversed Marangoni effect” theory.

After pioneering attempts for the introduction of graph theory in the field of ceramics and microstructures, where 1D and 2D graphs were used, in this paper we applied 3D graphs for the breakdown voltage calculation in BaTiO3 sample with some predefined constraints. We have described the relations between grains in the sample and established a mathematical approach for the calculation of breakdown voltage using experimental results. As a result, we introduced mapping between the property of sample and grain structure, then between the grain structure and mathematical graph, using various crystal structures. The main idea was to apply 3D graph theory for the distribution of electronic parameters between the neighboring grains. With this study, we successfully confirmed the possibilities for applications of graphs as a tool for the determination of properties even at the intergranular level.

The non-destructive inspection of duplex steels is a big challenge, being composed of ferrite and austenite, have some particularities. When using ultrasound, for instance, its waves propagate well in ferrite, but suffer strong attenuation, scattering and refraction in austenite. The aim of this work is to use the Phased Array ultrasonic inspection method for the thin (4 mm) duplex steel weld joint inspection. The experimental sample was made of duplex steel shaped tube with an outer diameter of 44 mm and a wall thickness of 3.8 mm welded with a laser beam. The experiment was necessary to verify attenuation of duplex steel. On the base material and the weld joint were made the artificial defects, in which the adjusted sensitivity of the ultrasonic device was set.The result of the measuring was the defect echo coming from the weld root layer. The length (about 25 mm) can only be estimated due to the inaccurate constant velocity of probe motion along the surface.

The effect of single pulse, electromagnetic stirring plus single pulse on the microstructures and properties of high strength Al-Cu alloy welds is investigated. The results show that the grain structure of weld under conventional MIG welding are coarse, oriented columnar grains, the ultimate tensile strength of weld joint is 286.5 MPa, the elongation rate of joint is 2.4%. The thermal gradient at the solid-liquid interface in the welding pool is decreased and the density of heterogeneous nucleation is enhanced by electromagnetical stirring plus single pulse, which resulted in the coarse and oriented columnar grains transforming to fine equiaxed grains; morphology and distribution of α(Al)-CuAl2 eutectic along the grain boundaries are improved, so it significantly improves the mechanical property of weld joint, the ultimate tensile strength of weld joint is up to 326.0 MPa, the elongation rate of joint reaches 7.8%.

A new model of heat source applicable to TIG welding is proposed. The model uses three calibration parameters - efficiency, effective heating spot radius and heat source concentration factor. Based on the experimental results, the model was calibrated and the results obtained for the form of penetration were compared with the experimental ones.

In conventional TIG welding, copper weld joint and its heat affected zone (HAZ) have the disadvantage of softening. In this paper, the new technology of softening control for copper weld joint using pretension method was studied. The results show that hardness of copper weld seam and its HAZ was increased by pretension. Moreover, the tensile strength and elongation of the welding joint were obviously improved. Keywords: pretension, weld joint, softening control, copper

This paper presents a set of experimental results concerning the evolution of yield loci for anisotropic materials in the course of finite shear deformation history. Thin walled tubes of SAE 1020 steel are tested under triaxial loading conditions – tension, torsion and internal pressure, at room temperature. The specimens were prepared from cold-drawn tubes which had a prominent fibrous grain structure. They showed considerable amount of in-plane anisotropy and orthotropic yield properties with respect to the longitudinal and circumferential axes. The as-received specimens were further pre-strained by imposing simple shear which causes the change in orientations of these elongated polycrystalline grains. Our previous experimental results [1] have verified that the principal directions of the total stretch of the current grain shape match with the directions of orthotropy, and in this work, the subsequent yield loci for the pre-strained material are determined with respect to the new reference frame fixed along these directions of orthotropic symmetry. By utilizing the unique triaxial loading scheme of our servo-hydraulic testing system it has been possible to create the principal directions of a biaxial state of stress in a specified direction. The changes in the size and shape of the yield loci in the stress space are critically analyzed in this paper.
