The relationship between management development theory and practice is discussed in historical perspective. Package deals bought purely on the basis of apparent sound philosophical premises are questioned. The need for scientific development of training programmes and training management courses is discussed.

This study is of three-fold. The first provides a general overview of the history and importance of “Technical and Vocational Education and Train-ing” (TVET); the second compares TVET in The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the United Kingdom (as a pioneer country in the field) in order to explore points of similarity and differences and to make recommendations for TVET im-provement in UAE; and the third analyses the relationship between teacher train-ing programmes, accessibility to technical resources, teachers’ technology inte-gration, and the mission and vision of technical and vocational institutes in UAE. Data were collected from 175 teachers and administrators of Technical Vocational Colleges (TVCs) in the UAE. To ensure a comprehensive exploration of the top-ic, three separate research models were developed and tested. All models were analysed using covariance-based structural equation modelling (SEM) through AMOS version 24. Results showed that there is a positive and significant rela-tionship between teachers’ technology integration, teacher training programmes and accessibility to technical resources/equipment, and the mission and vision of the technical and vocational institutes.

Abstract The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the administrator’s role (i.e., communication and delivery mode) in training programmes, trainees’ motivation, and training maintenance. Data were collected from 123 employees of various military health centres in Malaysia. The results of SmartPLS path model analysis revealed two important findings: firstly, communication and trainees’ motivation are positively and significantly related to training maintenance. Secondly, delivery mode and trainees’ motivation are positively and significantly related to training maintenance. As a whole, these findings posit that trainees’ motivation does act as an effective mediating variable in the relationship between the administrator’s role in training programmes and training maintenance in the studied organizations. Further discussions, implications and conclusion are presented in the succeeding sections.

Introduction to International Relations provides a concise introduction to the principal international relations theories, and explores how theory can be used to analyse contemporary issues. Readers are introduced to the most important theories, encompassing both classical and contemporary approaches and debates. Throughout the text, the chapters encourage readers to consider the strengths and weaknesses of the theories presented, and the major points of contention between them. In so doing, the text helps the reader to build a clear understanding of how major theoretical debates link up with each other, and how the structure of the discipline of international relations is established. The book places a strong emphasis throughout on the relationship between theory and practice, carefully explaining how theories organise and shape our view of the world. It also shows how a historical perspective can often refine theories and provide a frame of reference for contemporary problems of international relations. Topics include realism, liberalism, International Society, International Political Economy, social constructivism, post-positivism in international relations, and foreign policy. Each chapter ends by discussing how different theories have attempted to integrate or combine international and domestic factors in their explanatory frameworks. The final chapter is dedicated to key global issues and how theory can be used as a tool to analyse and interpret these issues. The text is accompanied by an Online Resource Centre, which includes: short case studies, review questions, annotated web links, and a flashcard glossary.

Mao Tse-tung, the Marxist, may believe in the “objective” and “inevitable” forces of history, but Mao, the politician, general and revolutionary has argued that Communist success depends on the “subjective factor of ability of direction.” This article analyses the variation in the Chinese Communist definition of good military leadership and the relationship between this definition and officer training programmes.

This paper is written from the perspective of a Dalit counselling psychologist and aims to provide an understanding of the exclusion of Dalit perspective in the theoretical as well as therapeutic domains of psychology as a discipline. It aims to elaborate on the impact of caste on the internalised-self of psychologist as well as their client and how it influences the whole process of learning as well as practice. It identifies the gaps in this field and suggests a revision and reformulation of its course and training programmes so that the closed doors can be opened for all. Further it addresses the various dyads of relationships in therapeutic alliance that can be possibly influenced by caste-based oppression in social life. The paper is highly concerned with the unaffordable and inaccessible nature of clinical settings and the persistent ignorance of the mental health concerns of Dalits. In this paper significant issues like the sense of disconnect, lack of dialogical spaces, and dehumanised processes have been explored in detail. Expressing the hope that there will be a possibility of revisiting and reformulation of theoretical orientations and philosophical frameworks, the paper calls for adequate attention towards the Dalit perspective in counselling psychology to envision egalitarianism in reality.

The article records the opinions of nine South African managers in the personnel and training fields regarding the importance of organizational climate for management development, and relates these to some relevant theory. The author examines what management development is, why corporations invest in management development programmes, and who is responsible for this task. He then discusses the relationship between management development and organizational climate, and shows how a poorly implemented management development programme can adversely affect organizational climate. Factors considered include: top-management commitment, management style, attitude towards delegation, insecurity and resistance to change, counselling and coaching, profit orientation, organizational pressures, and incentive for development. The practical experience and opinions of the managers interviewed enhance and illustrate the points discussed.
