The aim of this study was to identify spatial patterns in the incidence of childhood tuberculosis in cities in the state of São Paulo. An ecological and exploratory study was carried with data on new cases of tuberculosis in children 0 to 14 years old for the period 2001 to 2005 and from 2006 to 2010, obtained from DATASUS. Data of the population of this age group were collected and raised rates per 100 000 inhabitants. Moran's index (I) was calculated for both periods. Thematic maps with the rates and its difference besides Moran maps, maps with Kernel densities, educational level and income were constructed using using TerraView software. The average rates were 3.23 / 100 000 inhabitants in the first period (2881 cases reported) and 2.13 / 100 000 inhabitants in the second period (2513 cases reported); the Moran index in the first period was I = 0.03 (p = 0.16) and I = 0.06 (p = 0.01) in the second period; the thematic map identified 462 municipalities with higher interest rates in the second period; the kernel map identified higher density rates in the metropolitan region of São Paulo, west coastal cities and in the first period and the second period, the metropolitan region of São Paulo and coastal cities. The data presented in this study provide informations to local and regional managers to implement policies for tuberculosis control.

Abstract We report the first known occurrence of Panstrongylus megistus (Burmeister, 1835) (Hemiptera, Reduviidae, Triatominae) in the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo, Brazil. In 2018, adult specimens were sent by residents to the competent authorities and, in the inspection of the property, a large focus associated with a marsupial nest was found. This finding reinforces the importance of the species in the state of São Paulo, serves as an alert for epidemiological surveillance and extends the species colonization area in the state of São Paulo.

Endemic Pemphigus Foliaceus (EPF) is a bullous autoimmune skin disease whose incidence used to be high in the State of São Paulo (SP), Brazil, during the forties, but has declined thereafter. OBJECTIVES: to report a series of EPF patients from the northeastern region of SP. METHODS: a retrospective study concerning demographic and epidemiological data of patients seen from 1973 to 1998 was conducted at the University Hospital, Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto, SP. RESULTS: bullous disease was diagnosed in 340 patients, 245 with EPF (72.1%), 9.4 cases per year, 60.4% females, and 70.2% white, 7 to 82 year-old (29.4% in their teens); 46.9% lived in the rural zone. Concerning profession, housewives predominated among women (67.6%) and agricultural workers among men (40.2%). The time of disease was less than 1 year in 62.0% of cases, followed by 1 and 5 years (27%), and more than 5 years for the remaining patients (11%). 36.7% of patients were referred by the Direção Regional de Saúde (DIR) XVIII of Ribeirão Preto, with the largest number of cases being from Ribeirão Preto and Batatais: 33.3% and 23.3%, respectively; 22% from DIR XIII (Franca); 13.5% from DIR VII (Araraquara); 2.9% from DIR IX (Barretos); 4.1% from other DIRs of SP, and 20.8% from other States (16.7% from Minas Gerais). Thirteen (5.3%) patients reported occurrence of the disease in some relative, and 4 (1.6%) in neighbors. CONCLUSIONS: the present data characterize the northeastern region of the state of São Paulo as a remaining endemic focus of EPF.

As theoretical assumptions, we work, above all, with the concepts of task (Ellis, 2009), as well as with the notions of collaborative dialogue and languaging, whose fundamental bases are anchored in Vygotskian socio-cultural theory, but which find more recent support in the works of Swain (2005, 2006) and Figueiredo (2019). From a practical point of view, the research examines the audios and interaction transcripts of 11 B1 level learners who attended a course at the University of São Paulo during the second half of 2017. As main results, we observed that the tasks provided complex connective processes, such as noticing, hypothesis testing, scaffolding, which allowed us to advance the hypothesis that these activities promoted significant dialogue and, therefore, the production of languagings that contribute decisively to the construction of knowledge of the foreign language. Keywords: teaching of Italian as foreign language. This paper compares and discusses the results of two solid waste surveys done by CETESB, the State of Sao Paulo environmental control agency, in the São Paulo Metropolitan Region. The objective is to get an idea of the accuracy of the results, as well as to establish points that can be considered in an industrial solid waste control policy for the region. The results of the two surveys were consistent with each other. The results were also checked against the amount of non-domestic waste that is disposed of in the sanitary landfills operated by the city of São Paulo, to verify the accuracy of the estimates. It was estimated that in the Region 3,250,000 t/year of industrial solid waste were generated in 1988, 376,000 t/year being hazardous. The recycling ratio is high, 27% for the hazardous waste, but the recycling industry is formed by small companies which are causing a lot of environmental problems. The municipal landfills receive relatively small amounts of hazardous wastes. There are large amounts of these wastes being disposed of in particularly dangerous forms: soil infiltration, impoundments and open dumps. Storage in drums is the second method used to dispose of hazardous wastes. Finally it is recommended that the State authorities take into account the above points in formulating the industrial waste control policy for the Region.
